During a typical day, you are normally given your daily plan from a manager or someone higher up in management, and you follow that in a general sense. time management and organisation is a big part in this job as when you are filling stock, you will be approached by customers and you will then need to know how to handle yourself with different queries that they may need from you. The hardest part of the job would be to juggle responsibilities. If you are trained on till for example you are going to have to constantly juggle your time between getting on and clearing busy ques. The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to know the people you work with as this is one of the most important aspects of working in retail. You need to be happy with your team in order to function with the correctly.

Even though I was working at Iceland for year 10 work experience I learned a few things about the retail business such as how they go about keeping the store fully stocked and how they do home deliveries. I was surprised on how busy the store was during the days at is was in Ilford Town Center and we had customers coming in through all sorts of directions looking and purchasing their desired products. I did have a fun time at work as I had very different challenges everyday such as trying to calm down a very argumentative customer and dealing with 4 customers who wanted home deliveries in a row. It was hard work sometimes but it was definitely a challenge.

Iceland was a fun place to work when I had just left school. As my first job I wanted to get a feel for retail - Which this certainly did. My manager was so laid back and helped me with all aspects of the job, from facing up stock to advising customers of the correct information.

Iceland Foods do, however, need to advance in the business industry. There is so much room for improvement but no one listened to my thoughts or opinions so I felt a little down about this. There wasn't any room for advancement within my role which I didn't feel I wanted to stay in.

I worked as a Cashier and enjoyed the customer contact.  The work can be hard with heavy lifting, stacking shopping into trays for home delivery.  It gets very busy on the tills whilst the managers are at the top of the shop talking while shelf stacking.  To be honest managers are glorified shelf stackers/cashiers. That is the only positive thing I can tell you, HR/payroll will screw you for holiday pay when you leave.  They need investigating.

Worst job I ever had, your just a number not a person. The hourly pay is ok but keep cutting everyone's hours so your take home is rubbish. The area managers just don't care about there staff it's all about the numbers looking good on paper for them.

Was an amazing place to work, management would schedule around your needs and genuinely a fun place to work. 

Staff are friendly and the work isn’t too hard, we get out on time and if we have to stay we are paid for it

Full training is provided and you are well looked after.  

You become fully confident at using tills, handling money and providing excellent customer service along with other retail duties.

Good company, management are normally very understanding and helpful. All other staff are there for you if you need assistance and it’s overall a great company to work for.

their would be many duties to ensure time is being used well and valuable, from clearing cues on checkouts, to listing and picking stock from the store warehouse great place to work

Very stressful to work over there.  Look like a race in the shop to pick all items.  Not easy to meet the target.  If not meet their expectation, they will yell on you.
