I worked as a club lounge attendant in Sydney, Australia for almost 2 years and it was just horrible!

Management wasn't straightforward with you, would often blame you and talk behind your back. They were very manipulative and impossible for "room to be yourself" when they controlled the way you walked and talked even times you went to the bathroom. They did not care about us and was severely overworked particularly during Christmas/new year season due to the fact that half of the club lounge attendants quit because of mistreatment. They would look down on you and make you feel stupid because they reprimanded you like a child and couldn't talk to you like an adult.

I needed time off to recover from injury but didn't let me because they were too busy whilst it was my right under Australian working laws. The manager never trusted you and would always watch what you were doing, working there was like walking on egg shells- break one and lose your job!

Team members were arrogant and fake, thinking that theyre special because they work in a club lounge and there was absolutely no team work, you had to look after 100 plus demanding guests on the floor by yourself. If you did not get nominated as employee of the month by the guests, management will yell at you and make you feel bad. Not to mention all the pointless SOP's, policies and working over ten hours without any breaks.

I don't think that IHG is a bad company but will never work in hospitality again because of this experience and now happily working in retail.

This is the worst place I have ever worked for. Managers were terrible and hygiene standards were the worst I have ever seen! This is a 5 star hotel! I definitely expected more. I am a highly trained and experienced hospitality professional, yet I was treated as though I knew nothing. Hygiene: plates have egg scraps left on them due to not being scraped down properly and not being allowed to due to time restrictions. Teaspoons are handwashed behind the bar! WITHOUT DETERGENT!! Management is terrible and I felt like I couldn't talk to them - no open door policy. My trainers made me feel like a preschooler and would talk 'dumb' to me and made me feel as if I didn't know anything. The staff here don't even know what is 'entree' fork and what is 'main' fork! They call them big fork and little fork! I definitely expect higher standards from a 5 star hotel and have seen higher standards in a café I used to work in. Absolutely terrible. And to end with my manager offered to send me feedback of my time there and said I could use her reference to apply for another hotel chain - I never heard anything back from her even after multiple emails! It's highly unprofessional to lie to your employees. Definitely a disgrace to the Intercontinental brand and I can't describe how disappointed I was to work here. Horrible

I want to start off by saying the place is beautiful but none of the old workers came back after renovation for a reason. The supervisors here including management and hr have no regards for mental health or your health issues. I had to get a doctor's note because they changed my schedule without my permission they went against everything we agreed upon at the interview. They will overwork you and go against everything the trainers have taught us. They harass and bother their hard workers and let the ones who Play around do whatever. When you go to the gm or hr they try to make you feel like its all in your mind instead of helping to fix the problems at hand. They're very strict and only care about the company and not their employees. The old company was much better. They are losing employees left and right because they don't have empathy or show compassion for others and their feelings.  The place is going to fall apart unless the trainers step in and fix things. I never seen people nit pick & yell at their employees and get away with it. The worst company to work for in the Charlottesville location. Everyone complains no one is happy.

The hotel has heratige elegance to urban chick for travellers with discerning tastes
It's always getting awards
Staff is happy and loveable and pleasent to work with
Everyday you meet different clients trravelkers and learn new things in culture and everyday life 
You enjoy the atmosphere full of life and harmony  smiles of staff and clents happy to be there
The hardest thing for me was when Icould not make someone happy eg price, award, or they were not happy with stay at Intercontinental
Everyday you will find staff or clients  with a bad day but I always gave my best to put a smile

30+ new hires every fortnight usually unskilled backpackers with limited English and poor work ethic.
Management is clueless and is very into their cliques.
Full of Gen Z’s, who get offended or triggered by everything and spend more time bit ching  or gossiping than doing any work.
5* Prices but 1* service.  Couldn’t get any work done as I spent 8 hours a day dealing with complaints.
Management don’t care about solving guests problems just throw some money at them to make them go away.
No long term experienced staff just ones who can read a job ad.
Charged for 3 meals a day whether you eat them or not.

Overall was a horrible experience, interview was great and that’s it. When I did start working for the atrium bar things just got worse, I experienced such a horrible workplace culture, staff that would micro manage me, speak down to me and tell me off in front of customers - the culture of this workplace resembles school yard bullying. 
On top of all of this, little to no training is provided and the training that I undertook was not sufficient - do your self a favor and choose a better employer 

I would not recommend even my greatest enemy to work at the intercontinental Adelaide, was a hideous experience overall.

Get in to work meet other colleagues be it the morning or the night shift. Greet them firstly and get a hand over from them how the day has been or went like. Then check my emails on what needs to be done or whats new within the hotel. 
Management helps me out in every way possible on a daily basis. My co workers also help me out when ever needed are asked too. 
Hardest part is trying to manage a huge number of staff on some of the shifts but its all about the learning process. 
Most enjoyable part is creating really genuine friendships at the work place and feels like another home away from home.

What is the best part of working at the company?
evryone are so niceee!! if i have the opportunity to rewind the time i will still choose intecontinental hotel. 

management, environment, benefit are perfect

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
nothing honestly, it's just that the responsbility of kitchen steward is to hard for me personally, but everyone are very supportive and helpful

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
friendly, supportive and very diverse

You try to give your best for guests but very low pay. In reality, the pay is per room. You only get per hour rate if you can spring clean 2 rooms in one hour.

No time for lunch break, as you'll be called to do your next room. Expensive lunch compared to other hotels.

no Work/Life Balance. The reason why room attendants come and go.

You can't speak up your mind or they'll take it against you. Just do what your supervisors say, even if you do the same room again and again. No additional pay. Hard work not appreciated.

If you're a robot, you can do this job.

Everyday is alway a typical kind of work, I learn more each day doing i love doing.The management are Excellent in every department.All the manager from each department come down to housekeeping  and join us in our morning briefings, There are so many kind of workers from every culture you name it and it was fantastic to see and feel how you communicate in every aspect kind  walk of life. Every job is hard but when you know what you do is getting easier, Te most enjoyable part of the job  when you done your work and the next day you heard no guest complaint.
