By my own rating everying about working as a court diversion case manager was fantastic.... except job security because I was in the position awaiting a redundancy  A typical day was never typical, attending court, new referrals, assessments for the Magerstrates Early Referral Into Treatment  (MERIT), liasing with the legal fraternity. Other days were filled by working with complex clients, (counselling, liasing with various services, supporting, facilitating group work). 
My co-workers were great, some I had worked with in previous areas of drug and alcohol, we werea family. There was no hard part of the job per say except feeling the heartache of a significant other in relation to a breakdown caused by another,s drug use.
The most enjoyable part of the job was a client completing the program, standing in court and the client being acknowledged for their achievement.
HNEH management had an open door policy and was always very supportive.
What I learned.... In 22 years of working and helping people as a nurse and drug and alcohol worker I have learned that we are all people,... we are all different, and none of us are perfect. There is  an element of good in most if not all people, given the conditions and situation for it (the good) to shine through. It certainly shone through on many ocassions working in MERIT

A typical day at work: This service is busy, I love this role I enjoy it, I love all the clients and staff.So when I start work I retrieve the messages from the answering machine, do the mail, petty cash answer the phone, and do whatever is asked of me.I have learned a lot of postive things for example I have learn't to be and act professional, new skills, and conflict resolution.My co-workers are fantastic people and because I work with a range of people ranging from professional people like Drs, Social workers, Case managers,Coordinators, high levels of management, and admin staff, there all great people and I have a good working rapport with all of them.The hardest part of my job is knowing that it is ending because of funding, and sometimes can be a little bit repetitious.The most enjoyable part of my job is knowing every-one every day puts 110% in to all our clients to make sure that they have the ultimate outcome for their needs.

Unfortunately, the bigger issues such as funding, staffing, and managerial expertise make working for HNE a nightmare. This is such a shame because there are many amazing workers with great initiative and care for patients who deserve better. The role itself was complex and challenging which was stimulating, enjoyable, and rewarding although recognition and support of your efforts is not a part HNEs culture. Every day there is a crisis of some sort, which places more pressure on workers to perform. Staff morale is low and hard to shake when you get home. Health deteriorated as the months went on. The irony is that many "health workers" at HNE suffer physically and psychologically from such an unsupportive and stressful workplace. I'm sure there are other areas of HNE that do not have such acute issues but if you can deal with all of this then good luck!

- poor pay when starting out, seems to take awhile to get paid decently
- supportive teams however staff that have been around for sometime appear burnt out, jaded or desensitised to a majority of the negatives that occur
- some teams appear unsupportive of one another
- flexibility in work is limited, not typically able to WFH
- loads of opportunity to try new roles out and complete secondments/enter new roles within Health
- flexible work arrangements appear to be actually enforced here rather than denied from you
- friendly staff no matter where you go
- clinical supervision is a must

My day at work involved full reception duties, medical typing, liaising with outpatient clinics and GP's as well as working closely with the medical staff helping them wherever possible from an administration point of view. My co-workers were very dedicated and loyal and we all worked very well as a team. The hardest part of the role was not being able to be 100% up to date at the end of each day due to the fact that not all doctors were able to do their dictation on time due to their tight theatre and clinic commitments. The best part of the role was finding satisfaction in helping all members of staff and being confident to carry out my duties to the best of my ability.

there was a high turn over of patients we were running out of the planned menu food, felt comfortable to ask management about what to do, they advised me to talk to the diet aid. We discussed the options and with the help of the rest of the staff we were able to serve our food on time..In high stress situtations you need carm management which is what I got.  Hardest part of the job is making sure u have put enough food out to cover any situation that might change. The best part getting the food ready..

Admin role is ok. Busy 8 hour day. Not much recognition to admins for hard work. Admin staff are often overlooked and clinical staff are held in esteem.  Can be a rewarding role depending what you are looking for but mostly repetitive. Lacks challenges and opportunities. Try to get some information on the service you will be applying for. Some services / units may advertise a lot more than others, some units struggle to recruit due to high staff turnover and/or high expectations in job demands and/or team culture (bullying). 

What is the best part of working at the company?
I loved my job, everything about my role was great.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
My work colleagues were not nice,  being micro managed. Poor work ethics, not open to any changes or improvements.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not a very friendly workplace. Unless you are in the click you are left and out everything. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I had a schedule of everything I had to do each day and I stuck to it.

The Hospital Assistant is responsible for the preparation and delivery of food services for patients, staff and other identified clients; the cleaning and servicing of areas on campus and those designed areas off campus; linen distribution and collection within the facility; and waste collection, in accordance with the HNEAHS policies, service delivery standards and operation.  This position entails shift work, weekend work and public holidays

Although occasionally the exec staff send emails to say how they appreciate our work, there is very little understanding of what we deal with. Funding is cut, or absorbed elsewhere and nothing really improves. My particular role is becoming obsolete due to lack of funding and that has a detrimental effect on the general public. Morale is very low and there is a lot of nepotism when jobs become available. You have to suck up to the right people to get anywhere. It can be very clicky.
