Love my patients. They are the best part of my work. Luckily, I have awesome colleagues, couriers, they are very supportive. Lots of very hardworking people who will go above and beyond to help you. My first manager (the one who hired me) was absolutely brilliant, understanding, accommodating and very supportive. The others after her - quite mediocre, with no real understanding of the challenges collectors face daily, so no support but lots of demands.

In general, management is deeply uninvolved and has no idea what is happening in the collection rooms. If the room is very busy 2 people need to be rostered to work there, as it is physically impossible to go through this amount of patients by yourself, doing all the paperwork, spinning the tubes and making sure that everything is packed for the courier by certain  time. But the staff is so overstretched that even if the room is super busy, you work there by yourself. Forget about lunch or toilet breaks. Hold it, sister!

The pay is inadequate, considering the amount of work collectors are performing on daily basis. Collectors expected to be on call every second of the day, with ever-changing roster, often with short notice. You can get a call from your manager in the morning requesting that you start earlier and in a different room. No appreciation of good work, all collectors are just numbers for the upper management. No reprimand for the collectors who underperform, nobody cares.

This is sad. Because Laverty Pathology has the potential to be the best in the industry, but upper management fails to listen to the people on the ground. They don't value and don't recognise the good work and dedication. Often, mediocrity gets rewarded and nepotism is well alive and kicking.



Unless you are in a management role at WDP you are treated as a mere subordinate, pressured into working beyond your limits, paid an astoundingly low rate of pay, well below the same roles in other companies and bullied into complying, there are no opportunities and no hope in a role that places you as the face of the company. Most of the collectors are under-skilled, inexperienced (although they have completed their Certificate in Pathology Collections) and have no idea of how diagnostic pathology laboratories operate.
When you are in a management role you are bullied into forcing your staff to over perform outside their boundaries, expected to perform miracles by performing more than 1 role within the scope of 1 person and discriminated against at every possible turn with outdated policies and laughable procedures. It also seems that you are forced to ignore any contact from your staff either by email or telephone for as long as humanly possible.
The hardest part of this job is trying to smile while wearing their uniform knowing you are representing a company that clearly loathes you and the role you do.
Also, I'd hate to forget to mention they outsource registration and accounts personnel which I think is a tad distasteful and extremely inconvenient.

This company when I started working for it 14.8 years ago was a fairly good company to work for but I could not say this now.  
This company is very good a saying how good it is but does not deliver on its spiel.  Mid management teams have very poor people and communication skills and are very quick to let you know when you have done something wrong with no encouragement when you exceed required targets.  There is some nepotism within the company which does not help for a good working culture.  This is only one opinion of one department as I had very little to do with other departments based on my role and location of employment.  Their HR department needs a huge overhaul.  Only had a couple involvements with this sector of the company and only at the end of my tenure but found them less than understanding and in fact quite harassing with only having the companies interests at forefront and does not take into account the employee's interests at all.
The most enjoyable part of my job was the actual work and the pathologist I worked with for most of tenure, the other staff members that were not associated with managerial or supervisory positions.

a very high demand job with low pay, extremely short staffed. often you will get a roster but it never really stays according to that roster, often its changed around last minute and short notice so youll probably end up having to give up plans.

not resourceful or helpful at all, laverty gave me all the training but once your thrown into the work place you really have to fend for yourself, others in the company expect you to know everything in the first 2 weeks, overall it is a very rewarding job, especially when your not alone as it can get very hectic and hostile as patients are often frustrated that they have to wait, some older staff bully new people but overrall most people are really nice and helpful... certainly more than the managers...
they are not accomodating for muslims in eid, they dont care and they probably wont give you any extra days off because they are so low staffed.

you often are expected to clean up after work however you never get paid for that, and long commutes to different sites every day you wont get paid for petrol either, so not only is it bad pay but they arent helpful with other costs.
overrall a good place to start working but make sure you have some friends in the company you can go to for help.

Work:
Mostly shift work.  Expect weekend work for busy departments (high volume departments - almost all departments).
If part-time, it is expected to work additional hours without overtime pay under 76 hours per fortnight.  They're in the process of changing this.
There's always work to do, this can be good or bad depending on your personality.

They will always train you up for the work that you have to do.  Don't worry about experience.

Coworkers:
Most of the people who I worked with are amazing (I've worked in multiple departments).  Super supportive and friendly (minus ~10% bad people - but which company doesn't). I have made long-lasting friendships at work.  

Salary:
Very low compared to other pathology labs.  Make sure you keep track of the number of hours you've worked.  Sometimes pay rise isn't given automatically based on the EBA.  You'll have to ask your manager and that number is key.  Don't take no for an answer, that is your right.

Managers:
Depending on which department you're in, they can be great and supportive or just plain bad.

Bullying/Discrimination:

This can happen depending on who you work with and your manager.  I've experienced this but I nipped it in the bud.  You need to be assertive and know what your boundaries are.  Read workplace blogs (good ones - I suggest "Ask a manager").



no potential for career development, awful management, disrespected often by both clients and management, complaints not respected nor heard by staff management, no job security, often yelled at (again - both by clients and management), parking lots only for certain employees, blatant displays of favouritism for family members of management, repetitive work/tasks that resulted in incredibly boring days of work, consistent inconsistencies with employee expectations, unnecessary double-handling of tasks, micromanaging of work not needing supervision, managers always on their personal phones - held to a different level of expectations, filthy work stations, putrid staff bathrooms, minimal facilities in kitchen, poor-quality resources offered, outdated tech systems, unclear chain of command, no one to call for out-of-hours assistance, calls declined by management when clearly available in their office, lack of communication between departments, little training yet understanding expected, dull work environment with no natural lighting, often smelt of sewerage.

Every day at work i start by logging onto the phones. I handle high volume amount of phone calls in regards to test queries, costs and collection guides. While im not on the phone, i either enter results or chase up results via email/phone calls.

During my work at Laverty i've obtained excellent phone etiquette, managing work flows and improved my use of microsoft word and excel.

Management seemed poor, it would be improved by hiring more staff or introducing new systems that would help speed up the process of entering results. Basically finding better ways to run certain duties.

Co-workers were amazing,very friendly and helpful to every extent. Always willing to help but on some occasions dont turn up for work.

The hardest part during my time at Laverty was picking up other people duties when they werent around. For example the work load increasing when we were under staffed or staff not coming into work.

The most enjoyable part of working is getting work done, knowing you've done your part and you can go home with a clear conscience.

Receive approximately 80 incoming patient enquiry calls per day as well as 5-6 written enquiries.  Try to achieve the best results for each enquiry.  If not exactly what they were hoping for then make them understand why.  I also make 20-30 outgoing Debt Collection calls per day.
Some people are ungrateful, even when you help them.
Immediate Management aren't very helpful, but higher Executives are great to work for.
We are a small band of employees in Accounts Receivable and we all get on very well, both at work and socially.
The hardest part of the job is when someone on a pension and with an incurable disease calls in because they have received an account they weren't expecting and I can't make it go away and they start crying on the phone and I have to tell them that they still have to pay.
The best part of the job is when someone cries when you fix their account and they don't have to pay anything. I received a personal Christmas Card from one patient because she was so grateful I was able to help her.

Working as a phlebotomist, I have always felt supported and free in voicing my concerns/opinions. Some clinics have unfriendly hours, and it can be hard to maintain work/life balance with the unpredictability of working as a casual/reliever. At some busy clinics it is easy to get held back, so it can make personal commitments made after work difficult to meet.

Training offered is excellent, and constructive feedback is regularly given from the training staff and management.

Management is supportive and approachable. General culture is professional, with each staff member taking pride in their work.

It would be better if there was a little more parity with other similar organisations in terms of wages/conditions etc. I feel the pay does not reflect the workload, accountability or level of qualification required.

When i first gained employment with Laverty, i was promised a roster, a chance to move up the ladder, stability and a great support network from management. I have a roster but it changes without notification and when we don't show up to where we are meant to be, they wonder why.
 There is NO support from management, they're always too busy, even too busy to fix the account when we are underpaid every fortnight. If we stay back, we don't get paid for it and if we are more qualified or do more work than others, it is not acknowledged.
 Still to this day, i have been promised countless times that there are opportunities to advance and become more in this company, the cost cutting measures are obviously having an affect and that will never be a card on the table. 

Great company to start up with- good luck in keeping up with the workload of 10people for less pay than a maccas worker.
