I've worked with HOBAN for two projects that they have done. I've met a lot of nice people while working there, the pay is pretty nice too however I would say that management is terrible. 

First of all, when I worked at a project as new, I was not given information of any kind such as what to wear, what to bring, etc. When they said they would send me an email and such. They just allocated me shifts. Very disorganized in planning things.  Seems all over the place. 

Now this other project done. They actually became more organized and you can actually contact them this time. It was hard before to even get a reply or talk to the right person. So this project was much better than the first one (this is working for the same client both first and this one). However the management is seriously in need for professionalism. If I could show you how they say things to people through phone and chat messages, I would. They are not so kind as in they don't care about your well-being.. They only care that you make sure you turn up to your shifts and that's that. 

If you call them up before your shift (mind you calling up like 3 hours before) saying that you are actually sick, you can tell by their tone that they don't believe you're sick and that you're just bull. And the funny thing is, they say bull about it after on a chat. How professional is that coming from them? And sure enough, there could be people who are fake sick or just making any excuses not to work however there are people who are actually sick due to the harsh weather conditions. Kudos to those who still wants to work under the weather. 

I would gladly say I will not work for them anymore until they show true management and professionalism to employees.

As an On-Call Casual, typical is uncommon. I am required to be extremely adaptable in a multitude of  role variations.Consultation and cooperation is critical to success. In some cases I am required to deal with some very difficult people. One client had commended and thanked me for my tolerance and patience.
Unlike learning skills in a single role, I am required to learn multiple skills in a multitude of ways. This brings extreme depth to what I have learnt at the coal face. As an On-Call Casual, I am required to be a big picture thinker and am often left to my own devices. Other Casuals often look to me for leadership. 
I am required be at a client's at a moment's notice. 
I am often requested by name and have been offered permanent employment on a number of occasions. but rejected the offers as they are not a direction I want to take. 

Learning:
Due to the diverse nature of the role, learning is compounded; as if living multiple life times within a couple of years.

Management:
Management varies from client to client.

Culture:
Some, warm, some isolating, some individuals withing the workplaces have been antagonistic. 

Hardest part of the job:
Integrated where not wanted or having disruptive colleagues.

Casual Customer Service role through Hoban Recruitment currently for Melbourne’s Metro Trains and VLine train replacement buses.  Easy job directing customers to buses, taking statistics and other tasks. Enjoyed the customer and staff interactions.

Definitely did not enjoy having to follow up, almost weekly, missing pay, short fall in pay, missing payslips plus other issues.  

Totally frustrating when emails re pay issues aren’t answered or phone messages are left with no return call from management.  When someone answers the phone call, the excuse is that they’re busy.  Staff pay issues should not be ignored, dismissed nor delayed. 

Now I have received no further shifts and my requests for available shifts via App were deleted by the office.




A typical day at work was ticketing, ushering, looking after guests, working in the VIP room ensuring  everyone had what they needed. Keeping everything organised and tidy.
 At one shift helped put paramedics that I called to a man I saw suffering from a heart attack. Being bright and bubbly and always putting the guests first. Changing positions within the stadium when asked.
Workplace culture was fantastic a very high moral amonst employees.
The was no hard part of the job only getting use to standing around for hours after just closing my dance school, being a professional dance for 30 years very fit and active. However I did become accustomed to it. 
The most enjoy enjoyable part was the customer service the business and I just loved the job.

Had a contract with Hoban full time. Recruitment process was lengthy and poorly executed. The team that I worked with was great, but everything else was awful. Management was hard to get into contact with, and were really unprofessional in both the way they speak to employees and their knowledge base. The consultant I worked under seemed as though they had only worked in casual teenage level jobs before coming to this one, as they had no interpersonal skills and was audibly frustrated and skeptical whenever someone called in sick. 

Seems Hoban are casual employers when it suits them, not when it suits you, as they loathe it when you need time off, but will cut your contract without notice or reason when they feel like it. They would rather just hire someone else than work to build what they have into a more efficient work force.

I applied for a job through Indeed.com, then received a call from what I assumed was the place of business, they ran an over the phone interview which I assumed by the end of it I had the Job, they also setup a face to face interview, which I had traveled 40 minutes to get there.

I sat in a room for an hour filling out a tax form, bank details and reading through pages of legislation and fair work place forms, I was told that I was shortlisted, after that I was told to wait for a call.

A week later and I had not heard from anyone, I then contact HOBAN after realizing that I had been speaking with Hoban all along, sitting there thinking I had spoken to an employer of the business I had applied for.

I contacted Hoban after the week, they said they would call me back on the same day, they didn't, so I contacted them twice the next day, then they got back to me saying that I was unsuccessful for the job.

Working for Hoban Recruitment was varied.  Some assignments would only be short-term, however I did work a few very long term assignments which lasted 6 months or more.  I learned a variety of positions, learned to adapt quickly and learned many different computer packages.  I enjoyed working with management and also enjoyed fellow staff members.  The hardest part of the job was the first couple of days when I had to constantly think on my feet to fit in, but I also really enjoyed the challenges.  I loved the fast-paced environment.  The most enjoyable part of the job was the variety.

I salute HOBAN for their excellent services to their employees and alike. They are so friendly and helpful to everyone who works with them either you’re a new employee or an old employee and they are awesome even on the working site or in their office. You have no problem with them when you have a problem before or during working hours and they are always there to help you regarding your problem. They are easy to talk with and very friendly and they always say hello to everyone and approach you when you looks down. They raised your spirits with all their good words and camaraderie. Even I have only a short time with HOBAN I always said cheers with this people and GOD bless them...,,,,,,,,,, Cheers.....HOBAN

I have nothing bad to say about the company as a whole, or the work involved in the role. All of the candidates and clients are fantastic.

At first glance the office culture seems positive and supportive, but once you spend a little longer in the environment, you notice the employees are passive aggressive. This is amplified due to no management structure at all; If I could rate a zero star here, I would. Instead of giving you an APR, they would rather speak badly of you to others, without advising you of your areas for improvement. 

Concerns are heard, but no one listens. 

Essentially it ends up being a room full of disgruntled under performers, oblivious to their faults due to no management.

The team in Melbourne in charge of the Metro occupations don’t care about their employees. 

As long as there is a body in a vest making them look good then they’re happy.

They tend to allocate a lot more shifts to the international students without considering how long a break they’ve taken between shifts (multiple occasions) and hand off the scrap shifts to the Australian citizens.

Many of the people that have been appointed a Team Leader position should be demoted and given the proper training.

Prepare to be blackballed if you try and challenge their current practices.
