A good place to work, with a view point to improvement. Although the company is over 40 years old, its still very new to the meat industry environment.
Just starting with Lean manufacturing practices, it will definitely improve the so what negative culture within the plant. An accountability of production will be a great asset to this companies future.
The main thing I learnt in this job was the leap for myself from supervisor to management. It was the giant leap for myself at the time.
One of the hardest parts of my job, and I feel that Im not the only manager at this time who has to deal with this issue is absenteeism.
I found it hard and frustrating to run a production area of 90 staff, with over 20 away. 
More frustrating was that even after using all there allotted sick leave they would still take time off and just get a medical certificate.
Both Management and union were trying to resolve this issue but this is a very slow process.
But the best part of the job was identifying training needs and exploring new customer requirements

Situated almost halfway between Melbourne and Sydney, Gundagai is nicknamed 'the iconic australian town'. 
Gundagai Meat Processors (GMP) - is an Alliance Processor for Coles Supermarkets australia, and provides roughly 600,000 processed lambs to Coles per annum. 
A typical day involved working with around 50 other employees to process 2000 - 3000 lambs. It was hard work, but while i worked at GMP i strongly believe that i gained a greater understanding of putting in 100% to get a job done (we could not leave until the work was finished). While GMP is a great family owned business, working at GMP was a good experience over-all, I quickly found that as the work was repetitive and not challenging enough or rewarding enough for me.

Business is around 40 years old and is one of the most innovative and progressive processors in Australia.

Great family-owned and run business that supports the local community.

The team-orientated work flows well and we rotate between jobs every half hour to ensure we are mentally stimulated.

Laborious work can be tough on the body to begin with but they provide free on-site physios to support us twice a week.

I really enjoy what I do and who I work for.

This jobs not for the faint hearted , hard and long hours .Biggest problem was fatigue was a major issue as it started to affect the health and safety of workers.Lack of knowledgement to health and safety more of a tough it up ,we dont care approach was given. People out there however different characters could always have a laugh even though the job felt like slaved labour.

Already wrote this review accidentally on the Jerry's Plains Tavern review. Sorry. I enjoyed working amongst a vibrant group of people. The money was good and the added bonus for being on time and always there was a good idea

It was an enjoyable place to work and helped me in growing confidence and providing me with new skills and knowledge. I had alot of fun and met some good friends of mine from working there

Some people are working hard, some people are wasting time
Your hand hurts at first and then you get used to it
But the company cares about every employee
Work is happy even if it is tiring


Average management average pay group culture  lots of people with no English and hard to communicate with expectations of work hours are sometimes unreasonable 

Received variety of training  in meat preparation and working on a process line with a diverse work force in refrigerated environment producing for major supermarket

Rent and transpo is expensive. Share room with other people in a house (150 per head). Leave in a motel without kitchen. They don’t listen to workers:
