What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing!!
I was there for almost 17 years and they put me through the ringer until I finally spoke out to senior management about the mistreatment I had been experiencing for so many years and the Universities response was to have HR come after me and drive me out of the place. 
I did take them to the Fair work after my dismissal and I won the case. However they said that they could not reinstate me as it was a completely toxic environment. The best that they could do for me was to negotiate a very small payout from them. That was about it.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Completely incompetent management.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
In a word, Toxic.
The facilities management department of which I was a part was completely mismanaged and when I spoke out about it after experiencing the detrimental effects of it for 15 years the response of the University was to set the HR department onto me and drive me out of my job.
Shoot the messagener was their response.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Extremely busy and often very stressful.
The stress came mostly from the effects of a completely incompetent manager and some really bad actors (other employees) whom took advantage of this incompetence and would make life extremely difficult for me at every opportunity that was made available to them.

Employed on 3 year fixed-term contract as Griffith's first ever "energy engineer" (in a small engineering services team of two engineers - electrical and mechanical) to advise on and implement sustainable energy projects and programs to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions (report to Federal Government), and achieve energy cost savings across their five campus, a total of over 100 buildings. 

The most frustrating part of the job was (1) severe budget limitations and resource conflict (outside of major CAPEX) to implement a major project that would have a greater impact on energy cost savings and emission reductions, and (2) working well outside the PD and well above your pay grade.

In my experience - generally a good and healthy work culture and environment. I know not all departments feel this way, though. Employees feel part of a team and feel cared for by their colleagues. Management makes an effort to look after employees, although this can sometimes feel superficial more than genuine. HR complaints can sometimes take a long time to get recognised and dealt with (extensive bureaucracy). During the Covid pandemic the university, like many others, relied a lot on unpaid overtime due to short staffing, although this seems to have mostly been rectified now. Overall, I feel happy and satisfied with my work conditions. My managers have always been very accommodating and been flexible when my circumstances required it, although I know other departments didn't enjoy this to the same extend as I did. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Toxic enviroment, unethical behaviour, Ecocentre is worst.  Other depts are ok. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Surviving in an unhealthy and unprofessional environment. Relearning how to work in a team and individually in a healthy environment afterwards. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Unhealthy, GU know it but do nothing but hide it or deny it. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Horrid. Spend the day covering yourself, stressing and not focused on work. Ethically and morally destroying.

Management in Oral Health Services is probably the No. 1 problem  with  this facility.  They are the ones that encourage, I would even say contribute to the toxic culture that exists in the work place. If management can't stop  bullying and intimidation, how do they expect the staff to.  They revenge roster as well, which creates a stressful environment.  They have tried to sort this problem out with reveiws, but it still comes down to one contributing factor. The manager.  Don't bother applying for a job there. Your mental health is more important. 

I enjoyed mixing with the staff, academics and students.  I was a member of the University's social vollleyball team, and I was well liked by everyone at Griffith University.  It was a really great place to work, however I did miss the Gold Coast and eventually returned home to be with family and to concentrate on my voluntary work in the indigenous community,

This part time opportunity was always going to be short term  but I enjoyed every minute. The preparation for lectures is understandably demanding but I enjoyed this as it gave me the foundation knowledge I needed for my lectures. I certainly loved the lecturing and follow up tutorials. The results of my students were excellent and the feedback that I received as their stand-in  lecturer was also excellent.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Griffith Uni and gained valuable technical skills. However, the lack of job security was concerning, witnessing colleagues lose their jobs abruptly without any acknowledgment. Securing a permanent position was nearly impossible, as the majority of the staff worked on contracts. I made the difficult decision to leave once I found a permanent position elsewhere, but it saddened me to part ways with such exceptional individuals.
