Green Army

The green army was a great place, that contained a variety of interesting people, and difficult, but satisfying work.
If you're a fan of getting up early, pumping out some hours, then getting home early and having plenty of time to relax, the green army is certainly for you. 
However, the ease of access to this position can also be considered its downfall, as some groups you work with are better than others.
Due to working with new farmers every week, you will find that some are great, while others treat you more or less like slaves.
For the most part though, it is interesting to see the different approaches to land management.
The one serious flaw this position holds is that your wage is exceptionally low quality.
If the government isn't willing to pay proper wages for their workforce, why don't they get the farmers to chip in at least a little?

Overall, the green army was a strenuous, and somewhat satisfying experience.

well i love working for these guys always had something different every day we'd usually meet up and have our days talk on what we were doing and how we do it then pack our thing and move on to the site it could be different thing all the time caging plant or planting doing river rehabilitation also soil and water testing for the environment the hardest part of this job would have to be saying goodbye to the job was a plesant work space and most enjoyable job ive ever had the most enjoyable part would have to be always coming to work se your work mates and seeing physically first hand on the amount of good you have done to the planet making big changes for the better.

A typical day - Various jobs including, but not limited to; creating hiking tracks, weeding, re-vegetating native plants, propagating and sowing native plant seeds
What I learned - how to propagate and re-vegetate native seeds and plants, various plant names and species (both native and invasive) 
Management - Our team leader was fantastic! He was enthusiastic and treated us with respect while still encouraging us to work as a team.
Workplace Culture - everyone came from different backgrounds and it was expected of us to be respectful and considerate towards one another
Hardest part of the job - Our main re-vegetation site was on a hills face, thus resulting in legs day whenever we had to climb the site
Most enjoyable part -  Being outdoors and learning the names of a variety of plants

Typical day of work was often difficult especially in summer but crew had good morale. 
I learned lots of information about Australian bushland and also obtained certificates and qualifications.
Company was overall managed very well.
Workplace was excellent, very friendly people. Co-workers and supervisors included.
Hardest part of the job was working throughout the summer.
Most enjoyable part was making new friends and having the opportunity to gain qualifications and to further my job prospects.

a typical day at work would be 40 minutes waiting for our boss to get ready, then make multiple stops to her house so she can play with her pets and then bring said pet on the cramped car with a member who is allergic to said pet

Working with the green army was a very interesting experience. On a typical day we would all be out removing non-native plants from protected parks and lands. And i learnt quite a lot about how the non-native plants that were brought in have damaged the land and killed off a lot of the native plants. Management was great, our boss would always bet in the dirt and work alongside us and always push us to do more than we did the other day. the work place culture was very unique.

I like planting small trees and plants and the supervisor is kind and caring we have a good laugh now and then and one of the hard part of the job is when we was pulling fences especially the big giant logs that was holding it place but its was also funny watching other people trying it and I also like drilling into invading trees to apply poison, I would like to have a job like that again

Our team manage to get close to each other, including the supervisor. We all got along which meant our productivity wasn't impeded by aggression, stress or lethargy. We completed all of our goals before the finish date because of the positive effort and actual participation of the supervisor. If there was something we struggled with, he would jump in the mud and help us out.

Great entry level program to learn about the environment
Field work is the best

Earned great amount of money  however being an adult the suitable wage per hour should be atleast 18 dollars

Green Army is only a 6 month contract.
it would be better if it went ongoing or atleast 1 year

however the course should be the whole certificate II Conservation and Land Management unit. only covers 4 units.
Completed a first aid course

I learnt a lot working for the Green Army. My skills in conservation, working safely, handling chemicals, laying mulch, planting native flora etc were rather narrow before I undertook this job, but afterwards I found I had learnt an exceptional amount while I'd also been getting paid an adequate wage.
