Worked at the Padstow office of Gerard and it is nothing other than disgraceful. For a lighting company that is supposed to be so forward thinking with technology you could swear you are stuck in the 19th century. The systems are ancient and they still use hand written paper and often things get lost and blamed between one another. The management is very much old school, stuck in their closed offices all day with the mentality of you must kiss their feet and stay at your desk 10 hours a day. You could work on something for weeks then be told that its been changed to so and so which means your hard work ends up in the bin as you are never communicated any changes. Half the problem I believe is the people that have been there for over 10 years and quite staunchly and rudely refuse to think forward and more positive. Management, HR and most older staff in general are very nasty. The quality of imported products is shameful and in my eyes was always questionable. This was the worst working experience of my career by far.

From the CEO down this company is full of incompetence. The turn over of staff should be an indication to how hopeless the management is. Most of the time was spent dealing with internal issues and not doing actual work.
HR department is a joke, determined to push outdated systems on an ambivalent workforce. So many hours spent setting up office parties and lunches trying to fix the broken culture, but with so many brands under the one banner and zero credible leadership the company is destined to fail. 
Most people in leadership positions have lied their way into the positions without any actual skill or valid experience, sales staff are liars and the graphics department is full of children who don't know basic file formats.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Very good people to work with very organised by the previous bosses. not sure how it is now as it is impossible to get in touch with HR to reapply for any jobs

When you have a good idea, and someone claims that for themselves

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Fast paced and organised. The opportunity to grow is there but the reward isn’t so great

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Great friendly people not much rotation of people on the wrapping machines.

My work experience at Gerard Lighting was fast paced and included processing Export sales orders, providing Export quotations.
Compiling of shipments and liaison with both production and purchasing teams to obtain lead-times of product and liaise with the operation and stores departments to ensure the orders were despatched from the store without any complications or delay.
Enjoyable part of the job were the people with whom I interacted to obtain information in relation to my job.

At times a lot of down time, really good people to work with. Typical work day started with stock take, picking and packing, checking of pallets, cleaning. Hardest part of the job was probably checking of pallets, what the Forkies had packed themselves. Most enjoyable part of the job was knowing I had done my job well, with no complaints and positive feed back from Management.

Every day is different, company is experiencing a lot of changes currently.

This company enables you to converse with all departments from the factory to the CFO.

Since my employment we have gone from a privately owned business to been on the stock exchange, back to privately owed. I have seen this company through 3 major restructures & we are having another one in July. It has brought many of challenges good & bad but great experience.

The company was cutting back and unfortunately, my job was one of those eliminated for advancement. 
I like to make sure that my work is perfect, so I tend to perhaps spend a little too much time checking it. However, I've come to a good balance by setting up a system to ensure everything is done correctly the first time.

Gerard Lighting tried to endorse a lot of contemporary forward thinking initiatives to revitalize the company. This was due to the business experiencing a downward trend and sales, so a need for change was evident. However, the changes did not translate to growth so the business may not continue to operate for much longer.

I had work for previous company for over 26 year, thanks for having job like this after I had just arrived in Australia for 1 1/2 month. Unfortunately, the plan of company coming up that my section had to be shut down, that mad me out of the job. I wish I could get other job with similar atmosphere like where I worked.
