GE's operating rythem is the heart of its business and the entire business focus on day to day results and meeting financial committments is a huge adjustment for most new employees. GE is still very siloed and product focused. Its also very USA focused and those from the USA still act like its the only place in the world, even though 80% of growth is supposed to come from Emerging Markets.

Individual talent is not very strong in back office functions (HR, Finance) but it is a manager driven business.

Internal moves within the company are very difficult - despite what the company tells you and promotes. I saw many top talent and proven professionals forced to leave. People management is GE's worst function - if your boss doesn't want you to leave or doesn't support you, it won't happen.

Incorporated supporting IT related issues of GE Employees within Australia (including GE Branch Networks), New Zealand and India.

Serviced over 600+ Inbound calls during the day, in a team of 8-10 Service Desk Analysts.

Along with Inbound calls, supported employee queries over Click-To-Chat (live online assistance) servicing follow up and application related queries of the employees.

Performed Operations Services Analyst responsibilities (in addition to the Service Desk Role), which involved monitoring of Business Critical File Transfers.

Involved corresponding with External Vendors and Senior Incident Management Teams on Urgent/Critical issues.

Followed up on resolution/completion of previously logged issues with employees/vendors.

Updates to the Knowledge Base (scripts).

Working on a rotating roister, shifts could be varying from Business Hours (8:00AM - 5:00PM) or After Hours (5:00PM - 8:00AM).

A busy environment to work in, but with a great team of supportive individuals. An excellent opportunity to learn from work and colleagues.

My day would start at 7.30 am and i would check in box for all Loan applications that would come in over night and allocate to my team members ready for the days work. I would also man the phones for all employees to report if they were of sick and inform all team leaders of absent employees. I would then start to input all the applications and process the loans to see if the loans were approved or decline, and call customers to advise the outcome of the loan.If the customers could not be reach on the phones I would send an email to advise of outcomes. I was also on the phones all day to answer customer enquiries, print and send customers account details,and transfer calls to other team members. In this position I have learnt to communicate and build rapport with the wider public.I love to work in a team enviorment and was always doing a Lotto syndicate for the office and would help to organise team lunches. The best part of the job was the poeple which I worked with and being able to have some good conversations to the customers. The hardest part was informing the customers that their loan had been declined and for what reason. The best part of that job was the friends I have made.

1st Rotation: FP&A Analyst in Power Services. (Buenos Aires, Argentina)
Objectives:
- Report and analyze cost centers.
- Pacing report for field services.
- Deep costs analysis to find possible savings and exclusions.
- P&E costs analysis.
- P&L and Balance Sheet analysis.
- Variance analysis and commentaries.
2nd Rotation: Controllership Analyst in Global Operations Center (Monterrey, Mexico). 
Objectives:
- Balance Sheet reviews and variance vs budget commentaries for Latin America.
- Treasury internal audits.
- Automatization projects.
3rd Rotation: Commercial Finance Analyst in Gas Power Systems. (Buenos Aires, Argentina)
Objectives:
- Weekly KPI reporting and analysis (Orders, margins, cash flow).
- Document progress of the financial support and action items with owners and timing.
- Wing to wing deal process and life cycle analysis.
- Credit and risk management.
- Process audits.
4th Rotation: Cashow Analyst for Power Services. (Buenos Aires, Argentina) 
Objectives:
- Assist and execute FP&A activities.
- Follow up of Collections with AR team.
- Cash flow analysis and controls for Power Services business in Latin America. 
- Support and train the operational team.

At a sales management level you are working completely autonomously at a pre-tender phase but then the red tape is huge. However an interesting organisation that services the Aero, Oil & Gas, Energy, Water and Money sectors of business where there is opportunity to move within and learn other niche products & services in a completely different field as well as working across several divisions on large projects/tenders combining products. Most of the staff are very skilled in their particular field, friendly and helpful. 
The whole local structure (including senior management) is restricted in decision making by mandatory US involvement which definitely impedes Australian business. This issue is the hardest part to come to terms with if you as a sales manager are use to making your own decisions and issuing tenders without intervention (following business rules). In saying that, the company was very flexible (work from home etc) and has a strong care culture especially family.

I enjoyed working at GE, however the travelling time did not work out due to young kids etc.
Ge was a great working environment. GE is is customer service focused in negotaiting relaistic arrangements with each and every customer. Strong support networks, staff are freindly and always there to help when needed. The job I undertook was collections. Exceptional negotation skills, polite and fluent phone manner, honest and able to build a rapport with each customer, gain trust and understanding.
I enjoyed my time there, I decided to end my employment due to my partners time scehdule and our young kids.

It was a tough decision to make, - ending my employment, but family comes first and I am now looking for a job that is flexible, closer to home and as I am studying, I would like a job that starts later in the day, to enable me time with my kids and time at uni.

A great place to work with opportunity to achieve and be rewarded & to advance your career. A very busy but friendly environment.  Sadly due to major restructure of the whole business I was made redundant. My role was varied ranging from everyday running of incidents that may arise on a daily occurrence to processing the large volume of invoices required to maintain the running of the major sites & branch network Australia wide. Along with the processing of invoices, reconciliation of all suppliers and the maintenance of the  and future forecasting of the budgets.  A very challenging but rewarding position.  I was  an OH&S representative for the site and also assisted with all fire drills and trial evacuations.  At times you would feel as if there was not have enough hours in the day and the life - work balance would be tested.  A can do attitude and flexibility allowed me to always complete the days work and leave at the end of the day feeling satisfied.

Constant interactions with senior leaders on their cost budgeting and forecasting. Working with the Regional CFO to determine best way to invest capital and manpower to growth its business here in Australia. 
Focus on cost out initiatives to improve productivity to better support our Industrial businesses. 

Management is open, agile work environment with a lot of employees working from here. High level of flexibility but also lack of control on global scale since we are a relatively smaller region compared to the overall GE. 

Most enjoyable part of my job is the opportunities to travel with the role and the level of exposure you get early on in the career with senior executives

Personally, I think GE is out of touch with the blue colour worker and too involved with airy fairy and superfluous wannabes that populate the office space.
I dreaded having to deal with my direct manager as he was incompetent and had previously spent most of his career in the military and had next to no actual offshore experience and truly should not have been in that managerial position. 
As is fairly typical these days, every decision was debated and discussed by senior staff at length and hence took an age to resolve.........no one would make a determination.
The hardest part was going along with the apathy and keeping quiet about how inept things had gradually become.
Enjoying my time off made things justifiable, I think!
