Day starts with the daily prestart safety briefing, review and authorising of permits required for the days work this also includes reviewing JSEA documents for task specific compliance, daily walk around inspections revision of field JSEA and SLAM cards for relevance to task, plant and equipment prestart compliance inspections, site specific inductions if required, complete any site specific training requirements,revision of company and client communications for relevant alerts and or safety communications, complete any required safety statistical documentations, update site training, hazardous substance, JSEA, observation, attendance, plant and equipment registers. Conduct site incident investigations if required and implement corrective actions where required, 
Communication is one of the key elements to a safe and efficient work place.
Management has implemented strategic policies and procedures to assist the crews to effectively and safely complete tasks, with the assistance of competently trained supervision.
The diversity and ethnic background of the crews at G&S make projects interesting and at times challenging.
One of the hardest parts of the safety position is to get some supervisory personnel to change their old habits of personnel skills and task implementation.
Most enjoyable part of the day is seeing every worker leave work confident that they have put in a good days work and no one or any thing has been adversely effected by the days work.

Overall the company is suited to my needs and lifestyle. I have been at this company for 11 years however I am starting to feel as if I have nothing left to offer. The management has changed recently however I still feel that I can discuss issues and work with them. As a leading hand I have an obligation to delegate jobs within my crew. I feel that I am a fair, non-biased and non-rasist person who can get the most out of my crew. The hardest part of my job is the flexibility of hours. I would prefer to have set hours so therefore I can manage my income better. (Example some days we are on 10 hour shifts then we might go to 8 hour shift then up to 12 hour shifts.) The roster of working 5 days on, 2 days off, 5 days on, 2 days off, 5 nights on, 2 days off, 5 nights on, 2 days off, is a fair and family family roster. The most enjoyable part of my job is working at a workshop that is close to home so I can spend as much quality time with my young family as I can.

The day would begin with a prestart talk, allows us to know what is happening for the day and voice any opinions or concerns. Most days it would be a large piece of mining equipment. Undertake and continue on with the previous days work. We work within a team and our teams would be made up of a strongly suited range of tradespeople capable to efficiently and safely complete the tasks. we always have a leading hand nearby to facilitate any needs or concerns we may have. Depending on the task, there may be overtime available, if no overtime then the day concludes at 1:30. The hard parts of the job would be waiting for parts to arrive on order and having to work with changes and concerns from the customer. Each customer is unique in doing things differently and handling change differently. The best part about the day would be working with the team of guys and because we have worked together for a while we can just talk freely and help each other with the tasks.

I tried to perform my duties to the best of my ability in the conditions we were working in.
There seemed to be  a lot of  upper management and not enough people on the ground which caused a conflicting situation to continue day in and out. There seemed to be a "pecking order" and it was not how hard you worked or your loyalty to the company it was more a "who you know" situation if you wanted to go further in the company.
My co workers were mostly good honest hardworking people, but with all work environments there are some employees who did not fulfill the roles they were employed to do which exacerbated an already difficult work environment .
Safety was also a concern with many people not considering safe work practices a priority in their daily roles.
I enjoyed mixing with my co workers and quite a few have become life long friends.

Over seeing crews, running down days and shut downs, meetings with clients for their requirements on down days and shutdowns.
I learnt about contract management and added to my experience as a site supervisor.
Management were good, didn't see them often, was left to look after jobs and crews, I don't require micro management.
Co-workers were great, we all worked together to get the job done and to ensure everybody worked together and all parties new the aim of the job.
Hardest part of the job was being away from home without seeing the family for sometimes up to 2 months.
I had a 100% LTI free record and am proud of the safety that I followed and had the team follow.
I enjoyed a variety of work, changed each week.

Early starts are regular.  Duties through the day has all supporting fellow worker to continually learn and develop a safe and efficient workplace.
Challenges through learning assist in continually developing skills and knowledge.
Management are supportive and assist all staff to learn and develop their skills and knowledge.
Co-workers are encouraged to mentor and support new workers to encourage learning development in a safe manner.
The hardest part in the job is being away from family and friends for extended time.
It is always enjoyable to meet new friends and develop relationships with people from all over the world.

At G & S I have had the ability to learn new roles - Quality Assurance, surveying, reading drawings, expediting to name a few. There is a great team atmosphere, with management approachable at all times leading to great team morale.
The hardest part of this job would have to be clear communication. This has helped me develop my communication and interpersonal skills.

The most enjoyable part of my job is knowing that each day I put in 110% and I can see the project developing knowing that I've been apart of building it.

Doing various types of work could be lifting with the crane to spotting or fire watch plus LF getting equipment together for the Trade Personnel

These guys will work you like a dog treat you like a prisoner and brush everything under the carpet from the client. Management are clueless with no consideration for safety at all. Been on countless shutdowns with them seen and heard of incidents the client doesn't know about all because the company wants to win more work, but hey if you like being treated like a dog have your tools stolen and work for a company that has the potential to kill someone go right a head and join also the pay is low, never correct or on time.

A typical day at work would be any repairs or mods any were any time day or night .I have learned many things over the years I have worked in the mining industry from washplants to draglines to all types of machinery. Management has been ok over the years it chop and changes a lot. I have met some of the best people in the industry to work with and live with. The hardest part of the job is the lack of consistency in this field of work. The most enjoyable part of the job is range of fields you work in it can be different every day.
