Working as a checkout operator at Foodland in Henley Square has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I can't emphasize enough how great it truly is. From the moment I stepped into this role, I knew it was the perfect fit for me. The vibrant atmosphere, the friendly team, and the constant interaction with customers – it's so great!

What makes being a checkout operator at Foodland so great is the sense of community. The fast-paced nature of the job keeps me engaged, and it's so great how each day brings new challenges and opportunities to excel. The satisfaction of providing exceptional service and seeing customers leave with smiles on their faces is, without a doubt, the best part. The sense of accomplishment and the feeling of contributing to the store's success – it's so great, I can't say it enough!

After seven years, I can say it's a pretty average job. The people you work with are for the most part cool people, the department managers are all quite nice people, but don't get me started on the higher ups in the office.

Recently made a whole pile of dedicated 10 to 20 year plus workers redundant to cut costs, so don't get too comfy.

The rate per hour is nice, but the hours given don't allow that rate to add up to much.

hardly any space for advancement,(they'll just bring in a manager from another IGA or Foodland store, and let them come in and change everything, for the worse).

Three times a week I would start by cashing and balancing up the previous days takings. Then there are phones to answer, data entry, banking, filing, matching up statement, payment of accounts  and general office duties. I have learnt how to use quickbooks computer programme.  I enjoy the workers and always get on well with everybody and having a great sense of humor. I enjoy answering the phones and helping the customers with their queries or putting them through to correct departments. The challenging  part of my job is when  balancing the takings and  finding discrepancies.

I worked in Administration Job Sharing and this was a productive and very co-operative way to work as a team.  Having two people work and share the combined talents and experience was a valuable asset to the company.  The ability to be flexible and support your co-worker was of great benefit for the company and staff alike.  Working with a busy structured time frame and good time management were integral to the smooth running of the office.  I enjoyed this set-up, good communication skills are needed and smooth transitions of the work load were always accomplished with no problems.

The front end manager has made it a great place to work.
Other areas of management need to consider how it affects different departments before forcing some policies. If one thing works for grocery it may not necessarily work for front end etc.
The hardest part would be the fact that after so long in the one job there will never be a chance for permanent and the risk of continually losing hours due to being casual is very real.
I love the friendships I have made over the years with other staff and some of the customers.

i work as a casual hoping to get full time but it is hard were i am they only need me for so many hours a week , they have a few casuals working in the store were i work 
management is very good as i get along with them and respect them as well , the hardest part of my job is sometimes waiting for the load to come, were as i would rather be working than waiting.
i get on with my co-workers , we work as a team.
the enjoyable part of my job is that i am working , the only thing is that i would love to do it full time, this is why i am looking for full time work

An average day at Foodland is very busy; it keeps you on your toes, while doing work experience every Monday 8am - 4pm (for approximately 6 weeks) I learnt about restocking, facing, and customer service. I found the first week the hardest because by the end of the day my feet were sore, I was tired and I felt like I had made a million mistakes, but the support and help from the staff brought my spirits up and helped me gain confidence in myself, and giving me some great advice, which made the whole experience highly enjoyable.

For grocery we would all start in the mid afternoon and make the store look great until the load came in. We would then stack the load onto trolleys and go out and fill them. overstock that wouldn't fit would be sorted and stacked onto pallets and taken up to the storeroom to be filled over the next few days. getting to work closely with friends was amazing and we always had a great laugh. There wasn't really a hard part of the job, just lots of fun with friends

Staff across all departments are extremely friendly and are always willing to help others whenever they can. 
Little parking for staff, little independance whilst on checkouts, have to constantly call when products do not scan or items scan multiple times, 5 hours of working = 10 minutes break from when you leave your register. 
Important to have great availability prior to working there

I worked at this establishment as it changed hands three times ,  everybody that worked during these drastic changes secured one another how ever the new management /owner had no relationship between employees or customers which lost alot of business & valued team members.
