a typical day at work;

Progress meetings,engineering interfacing with site civil works,shipping berth construction,rail engineering,schedule programming,quality control and project management for design of mechanical,electrical and control systems from subcontractors.

what I learned;

FAST JV was tasked with several A$20b green fields programmes and this was a rare oportunity to work with and learn the logistics for producing very large scale multi-discipline projects.

management;

Management criteria was specifically based on selection of key personnel with the skill set to carry out work to enhance fast tracking across the entire project and this worked well in conjunction with automomy for each department. My skill set was project management of large material handling equipment.

co-workers;

Personnel were pleasant, enthusiastic and skilled engineers which assisted in rapid progress for achieving the department goals.

the hardest part of the job;

The Corporate need to constantly change the makeup of directors for the JV, required managers to be changed out and this lead to long periods of re-adapting department configurations.

the most enjoyable part of the job;

The most enjoyable part of the job was the handover of the sections of work to the client and to be advised that it was a job well done.

Working 10 hour days my role was to maintaining full integrity of the safety database, entering all safety documents and reporting the results. Assisting personnel with safety issue and inquiries. Certain supervisors / superintendents were extremely unprofessional but most of my work colleagues were a delight to work with. The hardest part of the job was working with unprofessional people and procedures and systems that were not functional. I loved my role as a FIFO HSE Administrator, it allowed me a fantastic work life balance. I was able to learn so much about my chosen field as a HSE Safety Administrator. Overall the company provided the opportunity for work advancement which allowed me to develop my skills and abilities.

The team I worked with at Fast had a varied background so allowed me to learn a great deal about mine construction in safety. The management team was great and we had a great team spirit.
I was able to work shift work at times so experienced a variety of job environments I enjoyed the variety of the task I preformed and learned.
My daily task included but were not limited to giving safety advice to Fast and contract supervision as well as advising contract safety and workers. I conducted audits and worked on hazard identification and incident investigation. Most of my day was site based so I got to know many of the field workers and the task they conducted.

Ensuring safety guidelines are meet on site and inspections on construction is to Australian and BHP WAIO standards
Drafting Scope of works to issue requests of quotations to contractors and ensuring methodology matches the scope before awarding contracts
Computer skill set was improved threw out my time with FAST and contractual dealings with contractors
Management team threw out FAST is very approachable and professional was a pleasure to work with and made great friendships
There was no real hard experiences with working at FAST because of the balance of professionalism in the team environment

9 hour day starting at 6:30am - you never stop learning unfortunately not there long enough to really esyablish myself - retrenched as a result of BHPBIO cutting back on future expansion projects - great co workers - some are still very supportive of each other given the lack of work in Perth at the moment
Would I work with the people that were working there - yes I would would I work for FASTJV again maybe - with reservations - to close down section after section week after week was not very good.

no such thing as typical day at work, so many projects - so many things can go wrong. its not a Joint Venture its a messy divorce.
co-workers are good management aren't - they talk the talk about OH&S and how important their people are but its all talk - very little by way of action.
Hardest part of the job is walking the the front door - literally the building is so old that the doors don't open and the scanners used to get in the building don't read the swipe cards.

Tremendous place to work with great systems of work and KPI structure to be completed religiously every week. Fast paced construction integration and delivery of all construction diciplines earlier than scheduled to the client representing additional earnings.

Excellent systems in place from daily to weekly KPI's, well respected in the workplace and able to engage the contractor in the clients preferred outcomes were an enjoyable part of the work place.

I enjoy seeing areas of your design being built on site.
The job was challenging due to contast changing from other area.
It was a good working environment in my work, made more enjoyable at work.

Working in the CBD and getting to work and home by train - the time it took
