Ezy Math Tutoring

The starting pay is about national minimum wage for a casual employee, and unlike other tutoring companies, Ezy Math pays you a travel bonus if the client is more than 15 minutes drive from you. 

Although only a couple of dollars, if you can get a 1.5 or 2 hour lesson instead of just an hour, or better yet, find a second client nearby (which is not hard, as Ezy Math has way more Brisbane clients than any other tutoring company I have worked for), your travel cost is completely covered! 

Tutoring is a rewarding job, and I loved working with all my students and taking part in their journey towards academic success. All the parents I have come across have loved working with me, and I go above and beyond with lesson feedback, as well as trying to accommodate the times that best work for them. 

Unfortunately, Ezy Math, like many other companies, offer a free trial lesson, which means if the client does not like you for whatever reason, then you do not get paid for your travel, and time. It has only happened to me once, but still unfortunate that my time and petrol were wasted for nothing. 

Furthermore, you undergo probably one of the most rigorous screening processes of any tutoring company I have worked for. It took weeks for me to get started from application. 

In terms of the customer and tutor support team, they are willing to help, such as helping negotiate with clients, or handle interactions that a new or young tutor may not be comfortable handling.  

Furthermore, unlike some other companies, your wage can go up as you receive more and more positive client feedback (which is passed on to you via email, and always brightens your day). 

This means, you can soon be making almost double what you would be making in a retail store or fast food place. Furthermore, the ability to choose your hours, and work locations is really beneficial. 

It's entirely up to you to choose where your clients are, and match their availabilities with yours. 

All in all, whilst many tutoring companies make me hate the pay, or the complex procedures, Ezy Math's only downside was the long recruitment process. Everything passed there was amazing and I would recommend any aspiring tutor to choose Ezy Math over any other company. 

Mostly helping out in Math questions by briefing them on the nuts and bolts of the chapters and using the tutoring methods of talking aloud, back-checking, pen to paper, transferring skills and mentoring them to the point of telling them that it is OK to be wrong. This resulted in me having three students appreciate my teaching methods.There is a feeling of satisfaction that you are trying to bring an unorthodox method of teaching which will reap the rewards to the clients in the future

Work is unstable as clients judge the performance of the tutors in one session before quickly offloading them to due unsatisfactory though in most cases its due to financial difficulties that they cannot pursue the tutoring further

The company does offer new students on a semi-regular basis, which works for me. However, the pay is below average and I could make more at other places but I like my students and I don't want to leave them (but I can't take them because of my contract with EzyMath). There are limited opportunities to earn more or advance. Moreover, EzyMath does not provide many resources to assist with tutoring (very few worksheets and the stuff offered is too easy, no printing abilities, etc). Moreover, the only support I got during COVID was a zoom account which I had issues with and that was it. Now that we are back in person, they do not provide masks or any additional compensation for any costs which may incur. 

I find this work rewarding as students achieve better results than before. I am an excellent communicator of scientific explanation and the students therefore have a greater confidence with me and I gain their trust and I build a good rapport with them. I manage my time well when tutoring to cover all topics the student wants to work on. I have had difficult questions asked of me but with contemplation and a better understanding of what the question is asking I find a solution. The hardest part of the job is gaining a positive response from the student to what is being tutored and answering their questions in a way that they have to think for themselves. The work is fun and I enjoy the work very much. The students and I have a mutual respect and we can approach any topic no matter how difficult with this understanding.

A typical tutoring session involves going through homework with the kids and then helping them with anything that they need help with. At the end, there is also time to set further homework and teach them things that they will be learning about in the future. I have learned lots in this job like how to write lesson plans, what math games are good for young people, how to write up reports, and how to tutor with the purpose of eventually being able to step back and let the young people do it on their own. Seeing the transformation in the young people and seeing their eyes light up when they finally understand something is probably the most enjoyable part of my job.

I've enjoyed my past 10 years working at EzyMath. They have always been supportive, from helping me with textbooks/lesson plans, to financial raises. 

Their team is adept at matching me with suitable clients who I've always had a pleasure teaching. Their monthly reporting system is very easy to use, improving greatly over the years.

The only issue I've had with the monthly reporting is that sometimes it will log you out, meaning you'll have to re-do the whole thing again if you haven't saved your report.

Overall, a very memorable and rewarding 10 years at this company, having taught one particular student from year 3 to year 12, helping his very high achieving result in the HSC.

A typical day at work may involved working in person or online with a student who needs to be tutored. I learned you need to be able to travel and see the available students in the portal regularly to apply for clients. The management and workplace culture is good since the training is online as too the administration to record the tutor work. The hardest part of the job is finding clients, the most enjoyable part of the job is being able to choose who you may work for and the online portal for job admin. 

The job is basically as follows: you get login details for a website where you apply for students who you are available to teach. If you're successful, you are given their details and you organise lessons with them. There's teaching resources for you to use, but they're not that good past (about) Year 7 level. You also get fortnightly readings on how to teach, and they're pretty useful if you're new to teaching.

TLDR: Ezy Math is pretty hands-off, outside of resources and online support you're on your own. This is great if you're good at teaching and finding students, but otherwise you might have troubling getting anything done.

The first day of my work is hardest thing.  Tragedy is, after accepting student, my university presentation time get changed and it overlapped with the tutoring timing. I was already bit nervous as it was first lesson. Then I have mailed the client.I had fear about my first impression and all. But client was very nice. She said okay take your time then I got bit relaxed. And  Most enjoyable thing is result of student after you had taught them. When you see satisfaction on student's face, that happiness  could not express by words.

The platform itself promises a streamlined tutoring experience, but this is far from reality. Firstly, the user interface is unintuitive and glitchy, often leading to frustrating delays in session scheduling and communication with students.
Moreover, the platform lacks adequate resources or guidelines to assist tutors in troubleshooting common issues, leaving us to fend for ourselves. This lack of support and guidance is a significant drawback for anyone relying on the platform for consistent tutoring work.
