Early Settler

I worked as a casual sales rep. They had great pay for a young person, with generous weekend overtime. Overall the I store work was fun on a busy weekend. There was no individual targets which meant there was no commission, which didn’t bother me, it may me more secure with my job. I wish there was commission however, as customers are very very loyal to this brand.  The disappointing part of this job included the demands from head office. Unpacking deliveries was a nightmare, but what worse, was visits from marketing and similar divisions. They were often rude and condescending. They would force use to use set dialogue with customers, which was more awkward than anything else. Not a natural interaction with everyday people.

As a person who has worked in many furniture stores, Early Settler is at the bottom of the list, the regional store I worked in was quiet and we were expected to meet unrealistic sales targets. No commission on sales was awarded so the insentives to sell was low (out of all the sales roles I have worked in this is the only position that didn't offer commission) . As a salesman with prior experience the manager would often interfere in sales to try and claim them for themselves to further their own career, management was also rude and condescending to staff. Overall I would recommend steering clear of the company as a whole.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part when I worked at early settler is that you get to meet nice customers and the staff discounts other than that you are just a number

The staff and the accusations they make about other staff members at West Gosford store

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great at first then no good after that 



What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Work greeting customers answering phones

My hours were cut to 0, with absolutely no reason given.
I got no hours at all for 4 weeks, the manager never contacted me again.
Basically terminated my employment without informing me of any reason why.
I was extremely stressed with the manner in witch this was carried out.
I would never recomend a causal position with This store to anyone 
They are extremely unprofessional.

Staff at my store are great and very under appreciated by our hierarchy. You can give your all and there’s hardly a thank you. No respect from head office, poorly organised in almost every sector from marketing to the product team. I have applied for other jobs and am simply biding my time until I can leave. I had such high hopes and wish things I’d been different!

I loved this brand. I worked had long days for this brand and my managers. My typical day involved executing strategy in the marketing team, working with PR agency etc. Unfortunately due to workplace culture, I cannot this as a workplace.

Nice work place with nice co worker and management staff. Excellent product line with very affordable price. Easy to believe in products and sell. Nice work environment.

Fast paced retail environment with heavy focus on sales and customer service. Wonderful exposure to the art of sales as well as to a wide range of furniture. Excellent team and lovely environment.

Management and top positions are filled by family and friends. It’s not what u know it’s who… and I was bullied bad, and nothing was ever done. 
Good staff discount. That’s it.

You get what you put in. Able to ask questions of the right people, easy to contact those you need to, fair pay, left to manage the store into a place enjoyable to work.
