What is the best part of working at the company?
My experience of my expectations from the Company is something to do with Duty of care towards staff and participants. I have raised concerns of participants needs staff support and all were listened and dealt with accordingly by the Management. This might differ on who is in the Management or the person employed by SCOPE because every person has different approach in life.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working with people who come to work without willingness to learn of what to do.

Prejudiced workmates.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I might need more time to really analysed better as SCOPE only fully came to Manage  last December, 2024.
Culture wise environment is mainly depends on the person who manages the Service.
All staff are encouraged to voice their concerns on every aspect of work. 

More mixed or diversity of people needed to be employed to be in line with the community and society we are living .

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Talking , listening and supporting the Participants of their needs based on what information you gathered , note and act on them.

I start the day picking up a client from a farm property that her family live on. At the Day Options program centre involved in different roles to enhance the lives of those with a disability. Some of our clients have high behaviours. So Conflict Resolution is important. I have learnt mostly from the clients I support. As there are major changes due to the NDIS being introduced on the 1st July. 

I feel that even though DSA Management say they are ready for the NDIS changes. There is still a lot of learning to be done by all concerned. 

My co-workers work hard and due to a high turn over, many are still learning their roles and are new to the disability sector. 

The hardest part of the job is working with violent clients. As a male, I am often placed with such persons.

The most enjoyable part of my job is that those with a disability are the most honest people to work with.

The reason for the move to Brisbane is due to my son and daughter in law are due to have their first baby in September. As a grand parent I feel it is important to live close to them and both my wife and I can support our new grandson when he is born

abusive clients, abusive managers.
No career progression as they are desperate for support workers.
Demanding schedule. Working all hours of the day, all days of the year. Goodbye personal life. You will get phone calls at 11pm for morning shifts, you will work from 8am till 11pm with 3 hour gaps in between shifts. Goodbye family and friends, goodbye your own health, goodbye holidays, you will not even have Christmas Day free. 
Say goodbye to your life because “who will look after these sick people if you don’t”
Expect  to work for 14 days straight with one day off in between. 
Expect to have a panic attack whenever your phone vibrates because you probably have to run to work on your only day off. 
For a company that prides itself in health they sure don’t care about their workers health. 

Good income, reliable work.
So reliable that you will be worked to your bone, 
but you will have lots of money so that’s a plus I guess. Money at the price of health and human rights.

While working with DSA I found that Disability Support it is a very rewarding and satisfying job.Helping clients with their everyday lifestyle tasks such as, meal prep, personal care, socialising (community outings), keeping in contact with friends, family and loved ones made the job so much more worth it. Everyday tasks such as the basics can be slightly difficult, moderately difficult or almost impossible for some people with a disability, being able to help even in the slightest way makes it worth it. DSA was a wonderful company to work for, as their main focus was on the needs of each individual clients being met and that they were kept safe and healthy and were getting what they wanted out of life. Whether it was to see more NRL games, got to more KISS concerts or visit the local coffee shop more.

As an emplyee of Services Australia, I was required to utilise computer skills, assist individuals with day to day living skills, effectively work as a team. A typical day involved transporting individuals to day programmes, administering medication, cooking meals and cleaning as well as implementing programmes.
I have learnt about the diversity in the workplace, I feel that I have learnt an enormous amount, both personally and professionally in the ten years.
Management I felt were supportive, and generally did an exemplary job. .
My co-workers I felt were diverse, personality-wise and intellectually.
The most enjoyable part of the job was acheiving goals, and overcoming various obstacles with the individuals and as part of the team. Going into the community, thinking outside of the square.

To many Indians not enough chiefs. A lot of double stands while the boss wasn't around. Need to keep up with the work load  to have the true figures at the end of the month. Co-workers had their own rules while the manager wasn't around. Behaviours from co-workers were disrespectful & undermining. The manager wasn't around to see the true office behaviour, even when the manager was informed nothing was done. Learn curves weren't very strong & at times you needed to teach yourself. A typical day was filled with a lot of verities which I like & there were a lot of unexpected ball curves from the left or right field. Verity is a spice of life. I love my job. I believe what you put into it is what you are going to get out of your job. If the hard work is recognised then it is a bonus.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Every manager has their own rules, especially for staff management. Some managers wouldn't allow staff to shift. Just to have a day of annual leave manager did not allow me to leave though I applied more than 3 months ago. Managers have favourite staffing. Complaints are not taken seriously. Manual handling in some houses is worse.

Many people are busy on mobile rather than engaged with residents

Working as a Site Manager for Scope Australia has been an incredible experience. They genuinely care for both their staff and clients, creating a supportive and inclusive environment. Being part of a large company means there are always opportunities to collaborate with others and learn from experienced professionals. Scope also places a strong focus on well-being and mental health, ensuring staff feel valued and supported.

As a Site Manager, you’ll need to balance three days of admin work with two days on the floor providing direct support. It’s demanding, but the rewards of seeing clients thrive and working with such a dedicated team make it worthwhile.


Customers would arrive at centre and have their morning tea some were non verbal so communication at times was a challenge. Then you would start the programs they or their careers had chosen for them, organise money if on outing and make sure lunches were heated up if necessary. Some customers needed personal care done,  when needed and some medications had to be administered. At times it was fast paced and with some of the less functioning customers was a major challenge to engage. The most rewarding part of the job was to be able to engage the customers in something they enjoyed and putting a smile on their faces.

Was great at the start, very client focused and there were great programs for fun and for skills building. Flexible daytime hours and they were understanding of family commitments and willing to work around them. And then they bullied people out of their jobs and it went downhill from there.

Went thru 5 on site coordinators in the 3 years I worked there, each one worse than the last. Management didn't want to know of issues, preference was to sweep under the rug or just get rid of people. Programs didn't match with goals of clients. Staffing ratios were ridiculous at times, and the bullying was terrible and nothing done about it.   Overall one of the worst companies I've worked for.
