Department of Housing

As a Public Officer i have been able to assist peopl living in public housing, from conducting property inspections to investigating disruptive behaviour complaints. Tenant education involves every aspect of day to day living, as well as ensuring all compliance policies are being adhered to. I have also been given the opportunity to work in remote indeginous communities including the Central Desert, Pilbara and Kimberley regions. I have recently spent two months in Broome assisting with the Rent Step Programe team.
Being a Public Officer is both challenging and rewarding. It is necessary for me to have exceptional interpersonal skills, as i engage in conversation with a diverse range of people. I seek regular feed back from management to ensure i continue to develop myself, i have a good working relationship with my managers and co workers, i am willing to take advice and frequently suggest improvements and ideas to enhance our services.

Start at 8 am
Go through emails and answer any outstanding queries
Meet with manager to be assigned work load for the day
Interact with people on a face to face level answering queries in relation to housing, processing applications, processing bonds for private rental properties, conducting priority interviews
interacting with fellow staff members in consultation on a particular customers query or problem
helping people understand the role of the Department of Housing and how the waitlist is managed
responding to ministerial enquiries

A typical day involved, maintaining tenants accounts, making sure they were up to date with payments for rent, water etc, scheduling inspection in advance, answering tenants equerries, travelling to complete property inspections.    
Very friendly team of co-workers, always eager to assist with any questions asked of them.
The hardest part of the job was getting tenants to maintain standards and upkeep of the properties, and on occasions verbally being abused, but persistence and patience is a necessary quality requirement.

My time spent with the Department of Housing was a fun learning experience for me as it was my first job within an Administrative Role and I was still attending school whilst undertaking the apprenticeship.
It was a diverse and multicultural workspace which I felt comfortable in and my daily duties consisted of basic and everyday administrative tasks & duties such as printing, filing, recordkeeping, scanning and providing customer service to our clients as well as assisting with tenancy inspections.
I enjoyed most parts of the job while undertaking this apprenticeship.

i loved my job at FaCS. It provided me the opportunity to utilise my existing, and develop further skills in providing best practice and to achieve positive outcomes for my clients with complex needs.
it was a pleasure to be an active and respected member of an outcome focused team.

I thouroughly enjoyed the challenge and demanding work enviroment. I thrive on personal growth both skill wise and relationship wise.

i do miss working here although at the time a car liscence was required to facilitate my 380 clients. I did not have one due to miss-print of job advertisement, although I have a car liscence now.

Money good, culture evil, bullying at high level, equal employment opportunities non-existant

Started off well in the early days but after every restructure & there have been many, further breakdown of mechanisms cause working conditions & quality of roles to diminish.
The left hand now doesn’t Know what the right hand is doing, computer systems purchased when they are out of date, etc

I found this company had great work life balance.  There were fantastic learning opportunities and access to professional development.  I gained significant high level experience in contract management and procurement.  The team I worked with are fantastic and the management are very supportive and encouraging and hard working.

Very challenging role where I was given the task of overseeing admin staff.  Also tasked with setting up systems to ensure the smooth running of the division.

sometime the most hardest part of  my job was doing inspection houses. 
most enjoyable part was working in office recording fills.
getting lots of experience from this positions. met with different people and finally got lots of knowledge about management.
