What is the best part of working at the company?
Helping & supporting children and families to be reunified 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Having to set up baby seats quickly in a vehicle when given a job at the last minute it can be a little stressful 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
quite good & friendly people helping one another 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Having 2 contacts per day, one in the morning, lunch then one in the afternoon with lunch break in-between then writing reports. Lots of transports to school or camps

During my career as a social worker I have always pursued my passion to work in Child Protection.  I have enjoyed writing court reports and undertaking assessments on clients and families. I am organised and come to work with a plan and strategy, the hardest part of the job is that the plan needs to be changed when an emergency situation arises in a case such as failed reunification and removal of a child. I have worked in a dynamic team of people from various backgrounds. 

The whole department is undergoing a restructuring process, so the management is attempting trial and error practices on what is working and what's not.

I love this work, children need to be protected and our country offices (Whyalla, Ceduna, Port Pirie, Mount Gambier etc) need an extra hand every now and then. 
I have learnt about accountability and organisation and have a supportive professional team around me. 
The most challenging part of the job is working with children and families who feel hopeless, it is important to empower these families to do their very best while always considering the best interrests of the child. 
working in Child Protection is so fulfilling, you are never EVER bored and every day is different.

There is a lot of variations between offices, and depending on which one you get it can make or break your career. There is no support from management to address this issue, unfortunately.
If you fit in with the team, you're in for a great ride but if not then you probably will have a very difficult time.

The way that they offer job positions on contractual basis is also not good for your mental health since you can never know if you would be ousted out by the time your contract ends or if you'd get an extension.

The job is always full on not enough staff, on going pressure and stresses from leadership, nothing is ever good enough , if you are not liked by leadership or if you speak up you are completely outed and your contract does not get renewed. There is no support from management and you are told what to do. Management do not trust workers assessment and you are not able to challenge or diisagree.

There was no team work, some youth workers on a power trip, many workers are not child focus. I found the Department to be run very badly. People in positions that have no experience. I now know why these kids runaway from DCP. 
An investigation needs to be done on the management…

Leaving it was the best thing I ever did

When it comes to the crunch they won't be there to support you

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture well don't get me started, run by people that have ever had kids

Definitely a setting in which social work practice can be developed and implemented, however resources, funding, and the traumatic nature of the work make for a challenging environment, to say the least. A good team and supervisor make all the difference, and the children and young people you’ll meet are truly remarkable.

I loved working in the role that i was in, but the red tape of the Government and the older workers, whom were all worn out from the long hours and struggles - is a downer on new energetic staff

Researching files for information to be provided to SAPOL and Crown. Photocopying files, archiving files, records management, training other staff, answering phone calls
