Whilst the job itself was straightforward, the business model for its workers, especially the casual ones made it incredibly difficult to plan around, as there was NO external access to the rostering system whatsoever, and the phone number provided to us for the workforce management team was one we could NEVER get through to to get a straight answer as to whether or not our shifts were still on in a given day. My primary reason for departing this role was the need for reliability / consistency, and the CONSTANT IT Systems issues at the time meant that not only were the casual workers the first ones to have their shifts cancelled, but supervisors' failure to make those impacted workers know they were not required until they literally turned up for the shift that day is NOT any way to run an organisation, let alone one where the casuals impacted are representing MAJOR government departments!

Challenging part of job is solving customer issues regarding their accounts and and be able to deal patiently with challenging customers while maintaining your average handling time requirement.

Don't do this job if you don't like sitting down a lot, When CSRs needed help, they weren't allowed to put their hand up, but had to be put in a queue for a Team Leader to come over, which could take half an hour to an hour at most times, We could not call customers back while we searched for information, so customers were often on the phone up to three hours! It was hard to find a car park and we had to log on and off the computer for all breaks, There was no such thing as a set time to finish work because you can't hang up on your customer or transfer them to someone else.

My time at Datacom was good, they give some good training to their employees, they value mental health which was a plus, and also have some very invaluable trainers there. Co Workers really were supportive and so are the management, they also asked on feedback to ensure you would have your input. Only thing that I found is that sometimes the work take alot of mental energy, but you were always with good people. Wages were ok and I felt they really helped people succeed with their program to help them progress to senior service delivery officer, for those that put in their share. 

Good people, good environment, but disappointing pay! How is someone meant to live (work/ life balance) if all you get is $700 a week when your there from morning till night!
At least pay $28-29 p/h so people say and work with the heart! 
They just dont get it do they these big companies! 
Give workers what their owed and the will give you a little more!

dreadful, dread getting up and going into office

Training was poor, some TLs are great whilst others aren't so much. Heavy focus on KPIs ahead of actual customer service so it's challenging when trying to fit best of both worlds. Pay is nothing exceptional but very fair with overtime and leave pay. 
Once you get the gist of what you're doing, it's tolerable but definetly easy to get burned out on 

* Was working on behalf of Services Australia during my tenure here
* Pretty convenient and accessible location especially public transport
* Work I did is equivalent to APS 4 level taking inbound calls for Youth and Students & Employment Services line

It is a perfect place to work to get your foot in the door, as it is hard to get experience out there. However, it can be very challenging when confronting customers who may yell at you for no reason due to unnecessary requests that we cannot grant them. 

It's fun and productive work environment.  Great team to work with.  Great place to learn and gain experience in Customer Service Role. But they ended the contract soon.
