Fascinating subjects and absolutely amazing teachers and Lecturer own most Schools of study. Curtin allows students to study on line if they need to - naturally some laboratory, team and workshop s require attendance on-site. It was so incredibly well organised - mostly. Students were provided with readings on line and a few activities to help them use their new knowledge and embed /reinforce that concept prior to coming to the next lecture. More information was then gained from Lectures. Also regular workshops allowed students young and mature, to try, test and explore their new knowledge, so it made Much more sense.  They were helped to draft essays and do projects. Statistics showed a 25% higher score for students who attended Tutorials even if they had not completed the earlier few exercises after reading. 

The Indigenous Unit was the best place and People to work with of all... Such a Calm, quiet and Respectful place and people (+ well paid Too), but the MOST Amazing, and EFFECTIVE and SUPOPORTIVE University School of Studies for Any student.  This whole Unit is Extremely well focused on meeting all possible Individual Students needs and teaching them properly.  I would work for them again any time. I watched them respond instantly to my students needs and link them with experts in other departments that I could not tutor them in. I WISH I had a family and workplace as mutually helpful and supportive as this. 

Science tutoring in classes was interesting too, but much less personal or considerate to students, half the pay, and required 1.5 hours of travel to attend a very useful and good meeting, that only lasted, (and paid for 1 hour @ low rates. This was not legal then or now, (2-3 hours minimum paid work). However, they could easily fix this by using the rest of the minimum time for Class or individual Student Tuition sessions, or to help Lecturers, PhD students, or do other jobs. 

As a laboratory assistant, a typical day involved being assigned to help out one of the professors or graduate students, and give assistance on what ever project they were working on at the time.

Being around various scientific equipment, meant that I  had to learn how to work carefully, and accurately, as well as how to adapt quickly to new situations.

While I did have a supervisor, most contact I had with hem was at the start of the day to pick up my schedule, and after that I was tasked to help the people I was assigned to, and was expected to do it without much supervision on their part.

While there were other lab assistants working at the same time, I only rarely had contact with them, if we were tasked to help the same person at the same time.

The job was hard on occasions, when there were particularly difficult tasks to do, but there was nothing in general that was difficult.

Similar to other universities, except that I have no manager and no team. Just dumped with a workload (which the admin staff helped uncover on spreadsheets because no one actually bothered to have a meeting with me). If you like being left entirely to your own devices and don't mind not knowing if your contract will be renewed then its fine. The one meeting I have had regarding line management in the year I have been here indicated that a permenant position is very unlikely. So through lack of any sort of real effort or management they have made it very clear they don't care whether I'm here or not (inspite of the heavy workload - so who will do that when I'm gone I have no idea). If you want to have colleagues, a manager, a mentor, a team or any sort interaction then I would look elsewhere. 

Working at curtin has been great my typucal day is meeting new staff and student helping them with there inquiries while maintaining i high standard of customer service. 
Learned on the job is part of my role, in which this has given me the experience to learn how deal with all aspects of the job including how to deal with high up management.
The culture of the university is very diverse with many cultures.
The hardest part of my job is problem solving a issue with printing services, i have a can do attitude and will not give up until the issue is resolved.
The most enjoyable part of my job is speaking with my customers relating to them on a daily basis.

Create geopolymer mortars for architectural repairing, useful to stabilize, consolidate or conserve surfaces; meeting health and safety code requirements and retrofitting measures to improve energy efficiency.
A typical day was making geopolymer samples, then characterised and analysed by density, compressive strength, adhesion to various substrates, colour matching with oxides addition, water absorption, efflorescence controlling using sealants and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).
I had to deal with different issues alone, but I learned how to solve problems never faced before.
The enjoyable part was all Curtin events that envolved various fields and faculties and were helpful for me to encrease my knowledge.

As a sessional at Curtin there was not much communication for quite a while then there was a good deal of information, which was pretty much from one or two staff. Much of the communications were forwarded 'opportunities' which was okay but in terms of managing or developing in the workplace there was zilch, you just did what you were employed for. It was down to those who hung around schmoozing with the managers or senior lecturers who got into the 'in crowd' and I am always a bot sceptical of people who have time to hang around being ultra friendly. Oh yes, and many of the staff their were related to each other so it's a bit of a 'cult' environment.

Brazilian government sponsored me to study in Curtin University.It was an awesome opportunity of studying English and Architecture.
The supported me in everything, since the tickets. Financial and emotional help. I was very welcomed by Curtin University and could develop a toughtful and creative study.

* below, in salary, I put what I received there from them to live (accomodation, food, transport...). But, they paid tickets (two ways), health plan, help with materials, my English courses and a year of Architecture course at Curtin University - it must be considered.

Curtin University has a Professional environment and it is good for someone who wants to improve his talent.
In Curtin University I published my article which is a very high level article and it was impossible for me to published it in my own.

Everyone in the team were friendly, respective, sociable and easy to approach.

I loved working at Curtin University.  It had a great work culture.  Lots of involvement on campus for staff to be part of.

My team were a happy giggly bunch.  We had social events organised from time to time.

Friday 3pm sundowner, glass of wine with the team.

Free use of counselling, health services. Lots to be part of as a staff member

The mantra "this is how we do things here" rings true. After 3 years of being treated like an outsider, I left. Half the people I met were excellent, but there was an old guard - it is a small pond, and with no where to go, people hung on to their jobs well beyond their use-by date. They breathed all the oxygen and pushed other people out.  People were frustrated. I got tired of hearing the complaints.
