Great place to pick up a few qualifications such as Bush regeneration Certificate II, First Aid Certificate and Chemical Licence Level 3.
First few weeks you feel like a tourist they pick you up at a pick-up point and drive you to different locations the previous teams have started/ completed.
Make sure you have done your chemical licence before you start back- pack spraying as our supervisor did not do this and we were all exposed to not properly mixed, highly toxic solutions all over our backs as our back packs were over filled by following supervisors instructions. Also a lot of the backpacks were damaged or nozzles were leaking everywhere which left a trail of the solution where you walked which poisoned other plants.
Also you are not covered by any workplace rights as your technically not a worker and not considered as one as you are a participant. BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS with that.
The salary is average but management is bad, stay out of anything that is being done incorrectly and call your Project officer to report it immediately and DO NOT participate if that is the case. You do have the right not to participate if you feel it is dangerous or unreasonable instruction. It will come back and fall onto YOU not your supervisor so be weary.
If you have a good supervisor i'm sure you will not have any issues.
The head management is very irrational and will not help you so try not to take a complaint to far as it is a government organisation and you will not get anywhere.
In saying this the job is good for the environment and if properly directed you can make changes that will last a lifetime for our environment as it is precious and we are one of only a few countries that have this left to appreciate.

You get to undertake multiple qualifications once starting.
You get to see the results of your work in each area every day you work, so you leave each site feeling satisfied.
Your typical day includes a work van taking all participants to different job sites and learning about the different types of noxious weeds and the diversity of different rainforests.
This includes: Full Time- Bush Regeneration, Plant Propagation, Nursery Garden Hand, Back-pack Spraying, Adhering to start & break times punctually, Awareness of your surroundings, Conducting Hazardous/ Risk Assessment and reporting to appropriate faculty/ management, Reliability, Responsibility to work on your own and in a team environment, Work in a fast paced environment,  Work well under pressure and  respect for others. Landscaping, Gardening, Identifying and eliminating noxious weeds.
You get hands- on experience and help save the environment.

The day starts with the opening and distribution of mail, checking online inquiries and responding appropriately either by referring to relevant staff or responding with relevant information myself; checking telephone messages.  During the day I assist in all areas of the organisation with administration support.  This may involve typing of reports, ordering of stationery supplies, liaising with our printing firm and ordering of the organisation's supplies such as letterhead, business cards etc. Online accommodation and freight bookings are made regularly.  Each day varies with the duties I perform.   Outgoing mail is organised at the end of each day.  My co-workers are friendly, supportive.and hardworking.  Birthdays are celebrated with a morning tea which brings staff together for a chat and a short relax together.

I pick up volunteers and transport to and from worksite. My role is to lead the day and supervise conservation activities commonly including weeding, planting and rubbish removal.

I enjoy being able to empower others to care for the environment as I do. I feel like it is great to be able to be paid to be outdoors doing something I feel so passionate about.

This job has assisted me with plant species identification, project planning, assessment and management skills. It has given me confidence to run daily activities and talk in front of a variety of groups.

The Green Army was an awesome experience and contract to start the year with.  I learnt many hand-on things and accomplished many minor to very large projects.  The environment was a perfect atmosphere for if you love to work in and around the bush land and scenery of what Northern Tasmania offers to give you.  
Working with the other colleges was great as by the end of the contract we had become great acquaintances to friends, i'm still in contact with some of them.
Overall the Conservation Volunteers Australia - Green Army is a great experience for those who have just left or finished college and are looking for a great start to work.

Working as a trainee for C.V.A was a great experience, I acquired so many new skills and qualifications and meet some truly great people while doing so. The work was ever changing, from track construction to stone walls, to bridge installments, clearing land and spraying. All sorts of jobs were undertaken and we completed the task at hand. We set out to install a five kilometer walking track in the heart of Bridport and after 10 months it was completed.

A typical day at work is the challenge to retain new volunteers.  What I've learned is that the most reliable volunteers are between the age of 50 to 60+.  Management have difficulties in communicating and unable to provide correct outcome as per the mission statement of CVA.  All the co-workers are positive and live for preserving nature and conservation.  The hardest part of the job is to comply policies and procedures to make tasks easier and more understandable.
The best part of the job is the engagement with local and international volunteers.

-	Assisted fire and emergency cleanup crews with cleaning up after bush fires. 
-	Worked effectively in teams within extreme temperatures, performing highly physical work. This included wearing the correct PPE and following emergency protocols.
-	Removal of dead branches, debris and potential hazards to dramatically reduce the risk of secondary fires.
-	Performed controlled burn offs, and placed flammable debris in designated burn off areas. 
-	Performed weeding of noxious weeds and removal of unwanted plants to reduce and control the spread of the species, post rehabilitation.

In my time at Green Army I have been on many great adventures and had so much fun. Travelling  to different sites was great and I learnt so much skills. I also learnt about different weeds and native plants. Engaging in the community was interesting and there were different people who came in and talked to us. My team was friendly at times . The work environment was Good. Our supervisor was supportive and very easy to get along with.

I was well trained and through the government iniative gained some good work gear. I already had a Certificate III IN C.A.L.M, doing this work helped me get my foot in the door. I had good interactions with management. My supervisor was pretty awesome and we became friends. Things I didn't like were that the rowdier people in our team were bullying a foreigner, I should've told my supervisor. I was offered a job on completion though I didn't feel ready for the responsibility of driving people around and keeping track of everyone's progress. It wouldve required me to adapt to being a leader.
