Making sure that the store is presentable, keeping an eye on sales and replenish stock. Rotating stock and facing up. Greeting customers as they come into store asking if they need help and thanking for custom. Checking back stocks in store room, rotating back stock, bread counts, counting newspapers left at end of the day, sending left over papers back to suppliers.  Dealing with deliveries sometimes several cages of stock on delivery days straight to back store shelves, date checking, price reductions and waste, cashing up end of shift. Dealing with any emergencies/queries telephone calls. Assisting the cashiers. Locking up at end of shift.

I currently am an assistant manager in an ipswich store. I get paid the same as a supervisor and I'm expected to do everything including pull a rabbit out of my proverbial! 
Support is terrible, overtime is non existent, time owed is a joke as when people take it back it means u have just 2 members of staff most the time. I will say most of the staff are usually friendly unlike big supermarkets I've been to. The upper management expect too much work from too little staff. You cannot expect 2 or 3 staff members on at a time to get everything done, especially when you pay them peanuts!!

The co-operative group is a good retail store in terms of quality of products and service that the employees provide. However, management treat and speak to their employees like they are animals. They don't offer much progression either in terms of employees moving forward, the best part of the job is engaging with the customers. When you research the company they give you a false sense of hope, the culture is really bad as in its management vs employees and they make you feel and know that every day of your working life.

Lovely place to work at store level, but absolutely horrific management who continuously put procedures in place which make it plainly obvious theyve never worked at store level and make the job 10x harder. I liked the job itself which was taking deliveries, restocking shelves, serving customers but the overbearing managers and poor pay just wasnt worth it for me 

A typical shift includes working on tills for most of the shift and refilling shelves as and when you have the time. i have learned how to reduce stock prices and how to work the tills as this is my first job. Overall the management are good but i feel they could be more accommodating of all of their employees. The most difficult part of the job is trying to learn all of the new things. i enjoy getting to know the staff and regular customers the most.

The coop shops can be good place to work customers are lovely and can have a good laugh and that with the problem lies with management as they do not back there staff up as they make out and definitely do not do what they make out they do when they advertise company

On a typical day, I helped fill the shelves and assisted customers. Working as a cashier. The management didn't seem to know what they were doing and left ordering to the staff. My co-workers were all good people struggling in a badly managed store.
The hardest part was making sure the stock arrived as ordered. 
I enjoyed helping the customers but management frowned upon to much customer/staff friendship.

Good improvement in customer service

Handling back office administration job such as reconciling delivery notes, cash handling, money banking

I have been extremely organised 

The most enjoyable part is when my work is being appreciated by managers and co-workers

Not a great place to work .
Most of the staff at this store did not like going on till so when you call for help you would hardly ever get help on tills .
You are only meant to be on tills for 2 hours at a time which will never happen .
MOST managment at this store are ok the rest just not got a clue .
Very clicky place to work if your face dont fit

How the unions agree with the government that we can live on minimum wage is an insult and even though it’s gone up slightly so has everything else so I’m still no better off. They should try living on minimum wage!!
