So much potential, crippled by a broad toxic resistance to productive change and fake positivity. 
Met some wonderful colleagues, whose efforts were often crippled by mood management being put ahead of delivering community outcomes. 
Pack your patience. Denial is valued; change is fiercely resisted. Savage internal politics. 
Fitting in is far more important to the organization than doing your job properly (and if you do your job properly & efficiently - you may not fit in).
If you are driven to achieve or improve anything in a timely fashion - this organization will not be a good fit.



Outsourcing the big thing & not necessarily desired result. More costly than anticipated. Despite public perception valued, experienced, knowledgeable coal face staff being shed replaced by costly 'short term' contractors. Colleagues where professional,  helpful & hard working. Pay & associated benefits excellent. Offices ideally located. Free parking. Be aware Council (staff) & Crs *very* separate entities. Counter productive politics instead of good business sense sadly.

No leadership, no idea and a dictatorship  from middle management. Change for the sake of change and reinventing the wheel.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic work environment from middle management and making things more difficult than they have to be. Change for the sake of change

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Pretty miserable since they hired a new coordinator.

The organisation is quite large so lots of opportunities to try something new. 

The salary is good and most people are really easy to work with. 

You generally feel supported in the job and there are lots of mechanisms in place to help.

Working at COGC is cruisy. Can be frustrating trying to change processes and improve things but once you settle in and understand that government work tends to entail a bit of efficiency you get used to it. Good opportunities to move up the ladder but overall average pay. However, great effort to reward ratio.

Highly recommend. 

Expect to see significant changes in the way that council operates and delivers its services over the next few years. Whether or not the people of the Gold Coast will perceive these changes as being positive remains to be seen.

Enjoyable with a busy work pace and great variety of work. Keeps your interest and always something new to learn. Team work essential.

Change Agents don’t succeed. The organisation is full of self centred people who only care about themselves. 
Lots of opportunities wasted because people care about their own patch and not the city holistically.

Advancement for a select few
No support 
Don't speak up or raise issues because that makes you the problem 
Some good people all of whom accept that it is what it is and that's it.

Modern and comfortable environment to work in  
Everyone is friendly and helpful 
Management is fair and open and honest 
Never in the dark about what’s going on - always kept up todate
