Chicken Treat

Picture a 14 year old kid, first job, excited to start earning money. Rough start with only 3 shifts training but it's alright, it's not particularly the most hardest job out there. Basically you gotta serve customers (take orders and pack 'em), clean, make boxes for food, and help restock/rotate stock. Before/After the shift you count the money in your till.

You'll have you and a manager morning shift, and two people and manager night shift. Pretty much all staff were great. People got along, well enough anyway. Most staff you'd only see during shift change overs. 

What wasn't fun was when you were forced to work with the owner's kid, or had the unpleasant experience of meeting the owner themselves. Adult child had the position of 'Store Manager' except they didn't really do much management themselves, was sitting on their phone most of the time and then bossed other people around to do their job. Made the simple act of having a bathroom break during a quiet period seem like were gonna go smoke outside for two hours. Would randomly cancel shifts if they were working with you and didn't like you.

Store owner themselves had a superiority complex and doesn't understand priorities. Would make you restock the freezer that instant even if there was a customer waiting to be served. If you didn't, you'd be screamed at. 

But yeah, otherwise easy job. Phones got locked up, had to pay for a drink. Got called up 2 months after I applied and got hired on the spot, didn't get an uniform for 2 months and had to share hats. 

uhhh good thing? free food yeah that's it.

chicken treat was a good experience for me it was a long term job that I was able to enjoy and learn how to speak to customers how to do stocktakes, how to train younger staff so they would learn fast and teach myself good work ethnics( not sure if that is the right word) a day of this job was repeated everyday every week and it was easy we start of by putting on the first lot of rotisserie chickens on by 9:15 and then start getting the chickens ready to spit and season I was one of the few lower staff who learnt to spit chickens. then we would get the 9 pieces cleaned and bags. chicken rolls were next that was a very tedious process having to get the right weight for each chicken roll. I ended up not even using the weight because I was so accurate, after finishing the chicken roll we would do CBC burgers( chicken bacon and cheese) at 9:45 we would put on the first fried lot of chicken by 10:30 all flow line equipment was where it was meant to be and the chicken was cooked and ready to go. by this time I would have finished out in the kitchen put the signs out the front and served our first customer.. everyday we would put the chickens on at 9am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, 4:30 pm,( and 7:30 on thurs fri sat..) the hardest part of this job would have been finishing on time we usually had a last minute rush so we would all have to focus on the customers and wait to do clean up after it cooled down.. we usually hit the time right but when we didn't it was an extra 1/2 hour or so more

A typical day at Chicken treat would include walking in with the appropriate attire, acknowledging the managers and ready to start your day. Some days can be long and tiring others can be easy and time will pass by quickly. Working in Chicken Treat has given me many helpful tips about working, I have learned what it is like to work under pressure, as well as the hard labor, although this has helped me endure those moments and adjust to them. The management at chicken treat is professional and they definitely do not expect any disappointments from staff members. They display a positive and caring attitude toward anyone from customers to delivery men. The workplace culture is always positive and diverse you would find they have an uplifting vibe. The hardest part in working at Chicken Treat would have to be enduring the long hours at work as well as the hard labor that comes with it, although I have found that it has helped me in understanding with what is expected in working in such an environment and I have learned to adjust. The most enjoyable part in working at Chicken Treat would have to be seeing the smile and positive responses that the customers give about the environment, i also enjoy the take-home packages the managers give on occasions.

I love working at chicken treat so much i worked there for about 9 months before i quit. I made some great friends and learnt some good skills but one of the managers was really bad. 

He made lots of people quit. He would talk to girls individually after work in the office and this was during the time they were obligated to leave (so not being paid to be there) and he would criticise everything we did wrong. It was demeaning and made us feel like we were bad at our jobs - which we weren't, it wasn't a positive way of helping us improve it just made us uncomfortable and made everyone working there not want to come to shifts with that manager. Therefore, there was a lack of employees rocking up to shifts. The funny thing is he would try find the answer for the lack of employees coming to work when the problems was just him. All the other managers were great and the environment was good but he needs to step up and understand what is appropriate and not, because he never had 'little talks' with any of the guys. 

I really did enjoy my time at chicken treat and made some great friends and learnt some great skills which will help me for better jobs in the future. 

Typical day at work includes serving customers, cleaning floors and tables, helping out kitchen hands with food preparation and also cash reconciliation at the end of each night. 
I have learned a lot about being involved with customers over the 4 years working at Chicken treat. It is important to essentially tolerate customers behaviour because they believe they are always right. It is also very important to be happy to every single customer to promote your product and encourage consumers to purchase more than they intended to (Up selling). I usually work with only one other staff member, my boss, and sometimes two other people that i enjoy working with and helping out with their duties. Hardest part of my job is nothing really because i'm able to complete everything required of me especially after working there for so long. The job is enjoyable because i know i am capable of performing it well and i love interacting with customers and seeing what they are doing with themselves in their lives.

Honestly, don’t work here. At first the job was amazing - certain supervisors gave you free food and drinks, the colleagues were amazing and the work wasn’t too bad. The store manager was a horrible bully who would threaten staff, get in your face, and humiliate you in front of customers for the smallest of things. The store managers family would get all the shifts, sometimes 15 hours a week when other workers would merely get 3. Hats were shared, I worked there for months and never received a uniform yet the manager gave other workers a second uniform. The store didn’t follow WHS or OHS requirements, and the manager and her daughter were just plain bullies. Me and my previous coworker at this job both quit and found a much better job at a different company. You would work 5.5 hour shifts without a break which is actually illegal - you are required to have a 30m break for every 5 hours of work. Trust me, find another job!

A busy place to work where you can develop many skills.
These skills vary from cooking/cleaning to managing and directing an entire work team.
There may be times of heavy grief as many customers can be quiet short with those serving them. This is where gaining the skills to open customers up to you about there issues, is one i take seriously.
In my experience, a disruptive or difficult customer usually is carrying a huge weight on their shoulders.
I have personally encountered a few situations where people have apologised for there discretion's and have gone on to explain current matters in their own lives that influence their behaviour.

This was a large part of my experience when working at Chicken Treat. Never being short with customers but give them the attention that they need to give a positive customer experience.

every time after school is when I start working until 10pm. I always start on washing all the used dishes, and then stock the fridge, i prepare fried chickens and stock every other food that's needed. on my free time, I always help at the front area for the orders. I also wash every equipments and all the dishes used for tomorrow. I wash and disinfect the whole area and then mop after. from working at chicken treat, I learnt how to be on time, how to be alert and do the task that is given to me right. our management is lacking of organizing every aspect in the restaurant (ex: roster schedule, stocks, employee's etc) my co workers are very friendly and even though we mess around on our break time, we always finish our job on time. the hardest part of the job is closing the restaurant.  The most enjoyable part of the job is every time we finish our tasks. I feel like I always achieve a goal for the day.

Training only lasts 3 weeks and you only get 2-3 shifts a week with only 2-5hrs per shift. Unless your the managers favourite and then they give that person 5 shifts a week with 4-7hrs per shift. The Franchisee Owner for the area doesn't care and has hired too many people to be able to have the hours to learn the job properly. Management likes to play favourites with staff both new and old. Staff doesn't clean properly and the equipment Is so outdated it's hard to keep up with orders coz your always waiting for food to cook. Unrealistic time periods in which to complete tasks for new staff who have only just started. All in all I would not recommend working here if you have other options for employment. I would only work here if you are desperate and even then as soon as a new job became available then I would say would jump at the chance to leave.

Wage was definitely the only thing that kept me working at chicken treat for almost two years. Our store did not have a permanent manager after our toxic manager had finally left. Shifts aren't that bad after you make friends with coworkers, but shift supervisors don't know how to share constructive criticism and end up just being passive aggressive or yell at you without giving you the chance to explain or stand up for yourself. This may not be every chicken treat store but this was my experience working there and do not recommend those who cannot quickly adapt to new skills and environments and those who are too sensitive.
