A typical day was full-on with continuous pressure to meet project milestones.
The project grieved from a lack of control in the pre-construction discipline/inter-discipline checks, vendor document reviews, and vendor/yard QA/QC inspections. Some basic installation designs and interfaces were flawed, requiring extensive site rework.
Management was siloed and resisted the team's recommendations for the practical work-a-rounds. Both staff and contract personnel were insecure in their positions.
The workplace culture was based on sound HSE policies, but somewhat lacking in practice. While teamwork was fostered, there individual ownership was lacking.
The most difficult part of the job was in meeting unachievable timelines, due to the large quantity of incomplete/faulty fab-yard work and the avoidable rework required for compliance with Company and statutory standards.
Landing at Perth airport was the most enjoyable part of the job.

Chevron are a great company to work for and exercise their company core values daily, and conduct business in a totally professional manner.

There have very clear reporting structures within the organisation with visible chains of command and levels of authority, that must be adhered to.

Chevron invest significant time, money and resources into local charities.

This was first time working for an American directly and I was impressed by their friendly, confident and impeccable manners & respect shown to everyone in the project teams..

Thanks to our HA leads efforts we had a great and trusting environment to work in.
A typical morning on the Wheatstone Platform consisted of picking up your permit before the 06:00 hr meeting. Once the meeting had been conducted by the lead a call to the Permit Area Officer was made, to get the permits signed on. Once the permit was approved by all parties work was free to commence, so the team dispersed to perform HA Inspections for the rest of the morning and subsequently rest of the day and until permits required returning at 17:45 hrs at COB

Chevron Australia has been through the biggest growth of any of the business units in Chevron, and it has had both the highs and lows.

Chevron Australia has almost completed both Major Capital projects and is now moving into operations phase, and with that, the dollars has been significantly cut back to pay for these projects. This shows.

Unfortunately Chevron Australia is no longer the employer of choice for Australian workers as it has been. Large scale outsourcing and lack of strategy discussions or understanding by workers has not helped.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Good projects, technical resources and ownership.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
A lot of very political expatriate managers who are unfamiliar with technical matters and local operations so there is a level of distrust you are always encountering.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Reasonably okay. But there is a them and us culture with expats. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy and challenging. You can achieve a lot  there if ignore politics and focus on delivering results.

My day consist of a high level of customer service, and a broad range off duties from patrols- building lock ups- to dealing with aggressive employees or protesters on the odd occasion. With alot of computer usage and alarm monitoring aswell as liaising with a diverse range of all kinds of corporate executives and staff. I have enjoyed the culture and the standards of all the staff here. No complaints.

Great place to work and have a career with a strong positive work and values. A highly ethical company that treats its employees and contractor staff very well.  Highly recommend Chevron as a company to work for and have a long term career with.  Chevron is also very business and technology focused ensuring high quality results and to achieve the best outcomes for key stakeholders including share holders, host governments and the communities in they work and develop projects.

A typical day at work was frustrating with the company trying to impose a "One size fits all" culture here in Australia regarding procedures and management process

Difficult to learn anything really as the culture was not really geared to individual learning, more a culture of "Do as I say & not as I do"

The hardest part of the job was to achieve anything as there was no sense of logic behind corporate  decisions

The most enjoyable part of the job for me was leaving!

Job very good,accommodation was also typical camp accommodation, however no complaints.A bit disappointed in lack of chain of command.I am not sure if this was the case in other areas as I did not discuss,otherwise all good on the site.

I worked for chevron twice both on contract terms and they were good to work for while it lasted I worked in yhe marine section during the construction phase bur was based in perth which was a 7 hour flight from my home in brisbane.I went home every 2 weeks so it was quite tiring with the travel involved.I did not make it to the site but worked remotely in perth on contract claims.
