Working as a mental health nurse at Cabrini was extremely disheartening. I started with hope & commitment but quickly found myself overworked and burnt out, not just from the demands of the role, but from a complete lack of support from management.
When serious concerns were raised about safety, risk, staffing, and patient wellbeing, management deflected responsibility, referring us to the "drama triangle" and constantly putting the issues back on us, asking how WE could do better. These weren’t interpersonal issues; they were systemic problems requiring management’s attention.
Cabrini claims to offer “learning opportunities” and “supportive supervision,” but in practice, these were rare and poorly managed. Supervision sessions were scheduled without coverage at times, and with the amount of work we had, it made it impossible for nurses to attend. When we couldn’t make it, we were blamed for “not prioritising supervision.” It was frustrating and completely disconnected from the reality of the situation, as we were desperate for support.
The facility also lacks clear structure, policy, and procedure. Most shifts felt like we were chasing our tails while carrying enormous risk. We regularly had to work overtime because the workload couldn't be completed within rostered hours. However, when we claimed overtime, we were reprimanded. To avoid scolding, many nurses ended up working without pay because management wouldn’t listen to us as to why we had to stay back so often.
The nursing staff are wonderful, dedicated and skilled but severely undervalued and unsupported. Cabrini sells itself as a progressive workplace, but the reality is far from that. If you value your wellbeing, professional integrity, and a supportive work environment, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Cabrini has undergone many changes over the past year, most of which have meant shedding staff at an alarming rate. This has watered down the healthcare service it gives to it's patients. Unfortunately staff have been treated disrespectfully and many have heard about these changes at the last minute and have had to reapply for their jobs at a moments notice, then been told they're being axed. Many staff have children and ongoing financial commitments and the way these redundancies have been communicated to staff have been underhanded and disgraceful in my opinion. I do not believe that this hospital puts it's patients first. Whilst Senior Management sit on over inflated wage packets, the staff who actually work with patients with life-threatening diseases are disregarded at a moments notice and are not even thanked for their years of hard work and service given. Cabrini is the only company I have ever know that makes it's staff pay for their own Christmas party! Shameful

Code of Conduct & Privacy abuse by Senior Manager non compliant & non supportive - demonstrated in his atrocious character

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Pre- historic office area and Emergency Procedures protocol is outdated by decades. 


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Enjoyed helping everyone and providing helpful information, sound knowledge and charm  to result in the ultimate Customer satisfaction. I know I made a difference to Patients & Colleagues in the professional way that I conducted myself. My communication skills were migrated to Cabrini through decades of experience in the Health industry.

I was a graduate RN with Cabrini a few years ago, in some of the wards the workplace culture is really toxic. You can often find yourself doing a lot of unpaid overtime, which is considered "normal", as most of the time you will notice staff staying here overtime for more than an hour. Unfortunately, you will find that getting a lawful break is a "miracle" in some of the wards here, and it is considered "so normal", that if you try and raise this issue with your managers, they will give you the advise to get used to it. Unsupportive staff and targeting workplace politics, further adds up to the workplace toxicity. We were more than 5 graduates on the word, and none of us chose to stay here. 

Working on a night duty with the ratio of 1:10 patients without any extra hands proved to be challenging. Especially when you have high falls risk and confused or delirious patients. 
This situation is worsened by one or two patients becoming very ill and requiring urgent medical review which would consumes most your time on that or those particular patients whilst the rest of patients are left unattended.

Cabrini Outreach is the charitable arm of Cabrini Health, with the Asylum Seeker and Refugee Health Hub being the main service providing free primary care and mental health care to people seeking asylum. The small team are incredibly committed and passionate in providing an amazing service that is built on client trust, best practice and flexibility to meet clients needs. They are really engaged with the broader sector and work collaborative with others.

Cabrini has clear organisational core values that are communicated effectively to all staff. It is a positive workplace where all are valued, supported and nurtured. 
It has a leadership and management style that encourages teamwork with open and honest communication. Feedback is welcomed and taken on board. There are generous opportunities for continued learning and progression.
Goals are positively reinforced, and achievements are recognised and celebrated, creating a positive feeling in the workplace.


Often fast paced with the occasional "quiet" shift, assisting ortho patients in meeting their goals to get home and living more indapendently. People are so suportive, friendly and approachable. Hardest part of the job is sayiong goodbye to patients that you have been looking after for so long but is also the most enjoyable part as you build come to know your patients and become friends with them. 

Having worked at several big corporate organisations, I transitioned to Cabrini with ease. Leaders generally value their people and the need for professional development. The Cabrini values are genuinely demonstrated and expected of all employees. The pace during the pandemic was dynamic but remained respectful and collaborative, which was a truly rewarding experience. 

Have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Cabrini. Management have been helpful and supportive. There is a strong focus on process improvement which is great. The Organisation is very professional and continually evolving which presents many opportunities for change and learning. What you put in you will get out.
