A typical day starts just before 7 AM setting up the laptop, checking emails, making calls, and grabbing a coffee. Then, I hit the road to visit sites, conduct safety audits, and build rapport with staff and just manage the Area's Budget, Logistics and other things that may arise

I started at 16, so all my machinery skills, management skills, and ag industry knowledge have come from CBH. I’ve grown from a Harvest Casual in 2011 to an Area Manager in 2024, with various roles in between.

Leadership is strong, with the right people in the right positions. Support is great you can reach out to anyone, and they’ll be happy to help. Workplace culture is very supportive. My area actively supports females in the workplace, with females currently leading males.

The hardest part of the job is managing different generations of workers, from older employees to new starters. The best part is the daily interaction with staff and growers they’re why we’re here, and they’re a great bunch of people

~12 hour days
Sampling is an enjoyable role as you get to interact with the farmers and build a friendship with them. I enjoy being a sampler knowing I am working for the growers and helping them in the best possible way that I can. Being a sampler at CBH allows young people to better understand the lifestyle of rural W.A. and the processes that farmer's grain goes through to end up on our plate in the form of either bread, noodles, butter, or biscuits etc. The culture on site is amazing, where the team is majority young people and whether you are a sampler or an RPO, great friendships are built. The most enjoyable part of working for CBH is gaining experience in the grain industry, forming connections with rural growers, and receiving a good wage. The hardest part about being a sampler for CBH is the long hours and exposure to heat can cause fatigue and so getting plenty of rest and keeping hydrated is key.

Varied from repairs to equipment, fault finding break downs, preventative maintenance and minor modifications and commissioning of equipment.
A team of people all working for common goals achieves high productivity.
Excellent to communicate with and listened to opinions and ideas.
A team of people from diverse backgrounds can achieve many things and interact socially also.

Follow through to ensure grain was moved from farmgate to Port.
During that time ensuring staff safety was adhered to and try to have a happy workforce while getting the task done created challenges.  We worked in a competitive environment and needed too ready for change to suit industry needs.  This was a Grower owned Company built on long established farming backgrounds and families.  Achieving Customer Service was always one of the achievements

What is the best part of working at the company?
Being part of a good team and being able to work with micro management

Dealing with Truck drivers and to a lesser extent growers

Good working environment and culture was pretty good 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Depending on time of year. Harvest or out loading

This job required long hours of work, often in stressful conditions. Each day brought new challenges and new opportunities to learn. Management was always fair and in touch with the group of workers on site, whom were also well associated and worked together well. The harder part of this job would be the hours and conditions (very hot at times). The most enjoyable part of the job was talking with clients and camaraderie between employees.

i used to take a coffee and go chat with my coworkers, and then start working

Good summer Job, good pay. not much social opportunity due to constraints of summer harvest period but you'll earn enough to go have a bit of fun after if that is your thing. As a summer harvest casual you could find your self employed anywhere from two weeks to two months. You will need to reapply for other job opportunities within the company. This is an excellent job choice if you just want some cash to fund Uni or your upper school education.

During a day at the metro grain center we were on break down calls (mechanical) I learned a lot working with pumps and diagnosing faults. Also belt splicing and re aligning was a big part of our job including fabrication projects. The management was well organised and our day was well planned out. My co workers were a good bunch and I enjoy working with anyone in the maintenance team.

Workplace culture has taken a huge knock with various restructures being undertaken every couple of years.  Focus on safety was paramount.  Most enjoyable part of the job was playing a a key role in the whole Board and Board Meeting process.  Hardest part was dealing with an impatient perfectionist bully at times.  Learned to become more resilient.
