Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre

My opinion is biased largely because I hated my every moment working at the Brisbane Convention centre. However, I do believe it is somewhat validated as they treat you like nothing if you are just a beginner worker (when in reality nobody there is succeeding in life or they would not be there) but it has an intense hierarchal system which has everybody trying to one up and impress each other to get to higher positions. Break times were frowned upon and they would have you walking for 10 hours non-stop, well aside from the 1-hour break they have to give you. In short, I found myself literally having a sense of dread knowing I had to work at this place and I believe it was the most toxic place I ever worked. But in saying that there is obviously nice and kind people working here but on the whole, it was rather terrible from my own experience.

This company runs big events, but they don't have much staff to run the events. Most of time they only have 7-10 staff day in the cleaning department and most events have 200 to 300 guest and shortage of staff means the staff have to work three persons work with long hours not just that they will be calling and expecting staff to work 12 hours and weekends which never gets ask at the interview.  Most staff are over worked and tired.  Supervisor will be yelling in front of the guest and even fight with manager.  Staff are fighting with each other because they tired of working over hours.   Manager most of time have no idea as what's going on or even which staff is on the floor working for the particular day.   

working with a great team from management to staff is really fun and dirverse. the best part is the end reward of seeing a client getting everything that they have paid for at the end of the function.All the co-workers seem to get along to get the job done at the same time. We all learn to do the best at providing a great time for the client and to get them to repeat business.

As the Center business is event driven you can expet some seriously busy times as well as some extended lulls. I love the people and the atmosphere. There is always something new happening

They did care about staff, but now all about cutting costs and making more money.
The directors live in a world of their own and do not know what the staff have to work with on the floor.

Great place to work. Supportive and proactive management. I loved working there, but needed to leave to grow and advance. Pay wasn’t  great for the role. 

A productive and fun workplace, which can sometimes be challenging and require a lot of physical/manual labour and long days, but really flexible as a casual employee as you are able to manage your own roster online, if need be.

BCEC can be a great place to start If you're new to the industry. Through staff training and working in various events and functions, you'll have the opportunity to learn a wide range of skills.

I only worked there for one day as an event but it is a wonderful building.
It is very clean and the management of the company I worked for had every thing very organised so I am assuming those in charge of BCEC were easy to work with.

I learned all new experiences and was able to grow my knowledge.
The workplace culture is great everyone is working their best. Hardest part would be learing how to carry 3 plates.
