Within the years i have worked here i have learnt that the most rewarding thing about my job is the customer satisfaction, i don't just work to satisfy the person themselves, but working in pet retail means we work to satisfy the animal, its very rewarding to know that what you're doing is making a small yet possibly significant difference in both a persons and an animals life, being a pet advocate i understand how much they mean to us and that's why i always work for the customer because i know exactly how they feel when they want the best for their special friend.
Coming to work is more than often or not a very enjoyable experience, its always welcoming and fun. the atmosphere is always amazing and everyone is very approachable, we've made quite a tight dynamic and that provides a lot of comfort in working with people i can now comfortably say are friends.
The hardest part of my job is probably the pace of a busy day, it can get very busy very quickly, but everyone tends to organize themselves quick enough to get on top of it. Another difficulty in my job is also something i see as a positive, its the connection i make to my regular customers and their animals, their hardships are my own and their animals troubles resonate strongly with me in the hardest of times.

Review job applications for senior roles throughout Australia; Organise interviews with shortlisted candidates; Address any OH&S issues; Attend senior management business meetings; Visit stores to follow up on training & development programs; Interviewing candidates and setting up panel interviews for final selection; Writing HR policies & procedures manual; PowerPoint presentations; Work with outside training consultants to produce training programs; Advising GMO, MD on 'people related issues'. Writing letters & editing; Mediating employee grievance meetings; Working on retention stats & business reports using Excel.

-Animals, though small, can prove to be a lot of work

Hardest part of the job:
-Being forced to control an animal who didn't want to be controlled
-Keeping the animals from antagonizing one another
Most enjoyable part of the job:
-Working with the other employees to complete tasks

I enjoyed my time working at Best Friends as the employees were friendly, caring and open to help with any quires; ensuring that I did each task correctly and efficiently. The work environment was clean, welcoming and the music ensured that the customer and employees were comfortable. I learned how to clean and manage pet enclosures, how to maintain a good worker- customer relationship and how to work as a team with other staff members. I enjoyed cleaning the enclosures and designing/ building cat scratching posts.

The salon is a wonderful place to learn and grow your grooming skills. The salon manager is very experienced and supportive, however upper store management weren’t the best to deal with and are more worried about money than keeping their employees work environment healthy. 
Only really worthwhile money wise if you’re on a casual rate; part time hourly pay is very average. 

I made some awesome friends here. People who work with animals are happy people to be around and it was an enjoyable place to work. I work both in the dog grooming area and the shop and it was great to be able to mix things up from day to day so the job didn't get boring.

You can never be bored working at a pet store. So many different animals that come in with so many different little characters.
It can be such a laugh when you're working with the right people, which also gives the customer a good experience too. Who doesn't love having puppies and crazy dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, guinea pigs, etc. walking in and out of the store all the time?

The boss is very understanding of mental health and lives outside of work when it comes to those days we take off. Whether it be for illness, family or for mental health the manager was extremely understanding and supportive. Whilst at work everyone is incredibly nice and encouraging and everyone is very helpful when learning

a typical day was good. I learnt a lot from there. like how to handle animals, clean their cages properly, facing the store and how to restock items. the hardest part of the job was actually leaving my work placement. everyone was so nice and caring there.

A typical day at work would be cleaning the animals enclosures, cleaning the store, doing a face up and stocking.
I learned characteristics about birds and rabbits and learnt to observe their behaviours.
Co workers were okay.
The hardest part was cleaning the bird trays.
The most enjoyable part was being around the animals.
