My role as a Hippy Home Tutor was to support families who had children starting school the following year. I worked with alot of low socioeconomic and low literacy families. Hippy is a two year program that helps preschool children get ready for school. 
A typical day at work would be to visit 3 to 4 families and deliver the hippy program. I would sit one on one with the parent and go through each activity with them and they would then do it at a later in the week with their child. 
The management at Barnardos were very family focused. A workers family came first. If I needed to go and pick up either of my children due to illness they never hesitated in letting me leave early.
I had the best co workers. We all became such a tight team. 
The hardest part of my job was leaving as my contract had run out. A person is only entitled to be a HIPPY tutor for 2 years. I was fortunate enough that my then Coordinator find a loop hole and I was there for four years. Unfortunately in November 2013 my time at Barnardos and Hippy came to an end.
The most enjoyable part of my job was working with some of my special needs children and watching them blossom over the two year period.

Barnardos do not care about the needs of the children in care as well as their staff and carers .The permanent care manager in western Sydney that has been around for almost two years has been so unprofessional towards carers and their staff .there have been mass exits with over ten staff leaving at the same time due to poor management .upper management have chosen not to do anything about several formal complaints from carers and staff .Barnardos do not put the needs of the children first and they will do what the easiest option is .Would never work here again.

Barnardos is a huge not for profit. I was excited to work there. But would never apply for a role there again. There recruitment team doing the hiring have no idea what is happening on the ground level day to day and “sell” the roles in a misleading way without having a clue what they involve or team dynamics and general day to day expectations. They fail to be honest about details of the role and leave key expectations out of the recruitment process. They also don’t take complaints seriously & are too busy investing in senior management positions and politics on a higher level.

 some time children could misbehavior especially during nights

friendly and social especially for people from diversity backgrounds are respected 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
most of time busy with children which was good for me

I started at 8.am my tasks included preparing my work space I as was a paint and decorator it was my dutie to make sure all health and safety was taking made sure I had the proper materials for my job I got the chance to work outside with sum other painters we worked well as a team and got the job completed . I took great pride in my work and every job I completed with the best of my ability if the weather was right working outside was a great bonus .

	210 hours of work placement as part of Master of Teaching curriculum aimed to draw conclusions drawn about the focus children’s experiences of arts and technology and recommendations made for future arts/technology experiences.
	Provided training on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to 4 year old age group by engaging them in trivia on technology and created visual aid for Personal Computer (PC) and iPad and iPhone using  carton boxes  etc

I enjoyed the work experience with Bernardo. I decided to work volunteer for a year and help the country that gave me so much opportunities over the many years. I chose The Centre for Volunteer NSW and Bernardo. They both gave me different experiences and self satisfactions.
Bernardo friendly and energetic team are the pros also the culture and helping children in need motivated me to participate as a volunteer in their Broadway office.

I did voluntary work here for half a year (2015-2016), during high school (S5). I worked weekends. I enjoyed my time here, both of my managers were really nice and it was my first 'proper' job where I was to clock in. It was voluntary work therefore I didn't get paid, but when it came to the tasks I had to do it was like any other job.
I learned about customer service, got to use the till, although an outdated till it was still similar to new ones. 

it was a great experaince i worked with very kind and out going people i loved my job there but due to becoming pregant and my contract was up that was it . but i learned alot about costomer service and interacting with people also i opened and closed the shop i also did banking for the company the people were 100 persent in learning all the staff new things ...

It's fun and safe environment to be in. I have learnt a few career skills and also proved my trust to employees. I have learnt to tag and price items. I get on with everyone at work. So far, I haven't found my hardest part of my job, as a volunteer. I love socialising with people at work and to learn new things.
