Arriving on shift on time and in a clean uniform, starting the day/night shift with a handover with your other colleagues, the day nurse and night nurse, in which we would discuss the residents medical/physical needs over or within the next 12 hours of your shift, and any other queries or problems. We would then start helping residents with personal care and assisting them to get out/into bed, food preparation/feeding and medications etc. We would also have other tasks like assisting the residents to hospital appointments, leisure activities, general cleaning and laundry. Working within the care industry is a very rewarding but usually means long 12 hour shifts.

I work at Drummond Grange Care Home as a care assistant. I enjoy my job due to residents and colleagues but we are ALWAYS understaffed and have been since I started the job a long time ago, despite many members of staff reporting unhappiness with the staffing issues over a long period of time. Management do not care about being understaffed, we are just expected to do much more work for the same amount of money.

Colleagues are lovely, care practitioners and lower down nurses are good to work with.

Not much room for advancement as training is so slow and disorganised.

No management support only happy when you turn up for your shift nurses do not help you when we are shortstaffed. There’s only a couple that will help us they are both lovely 🙂
It is round as a business, not a home residence, not showered or bath, but they say they do. That’s a joke not enough time to spend with residents as not enough staff on shift it is unsafe. I wouldn’t work for this company in this particular home management needs to be changed very high turnover of staff, very low morale. Everyone fed up

A typical day at work is receiving hand over from the night staff (Nurse and Careers)  about the service users as to ensure their well being, then provide care and ensuring their safety and comfort.
one of the most important thing I learned working in healthcare setting is promoting diversity.
Direct manager is very supportive 
Great culture of respect.
It can be hard at time if there is no team work spirit 
The most enjoyable part of the is being thanked by a service user or a colleague for the working day

The ethos of BHC is a1 however the putting into practice is very very disappointing.
The residents are very well looked after that is however down to the staff who for the most part are amazing. 
As an employee though you are undervalued overworked treated like a number if your face doesn't fit. If it does forget about it you can get what you want when you want. Would I recommend BHC as a place to work most definitely absolutely bloody not.

Management vile & nasty people no care/compassion for any staff. Person-centred care doesn't exist, no professionalism & ethnic staff would treat residents poorly. I was even told by one of the managers that due to my illness she thought it was best I quit work and earn benefits. I had many of meetings with her not allowing my mum to be present as a witness to her absurdity. I was treated appallingly. This home should be shut down.

There was a day I was attached to work with a lady who happened to be a Muslim and we need to assist one of our residents to the smoking area because she is in the wheelchair. My colleague refused to assist the resident based on beliefs; later the RGN on duty asked me if I can give a helping hand and I did it with joy and the resident was happy for my action on that day.

I have only been with Barchester for a very short time, due to personal circumstances. I found the communication with the organisation very efficient and rapid. The training I received was excellent! 
My fellow colleagues were supportive and welcoming! I am sorry that I had to leave, but I would recommend this employer. 

I wasn't given any breaks on my nightshift, I wasn't given anyone to shadow I was just left to get on with it on my first day, management are terrible and don't listen to staff, my wages weren't correct and I am still waiting 2 months later for them to be corrected

Got offered a position at oak grange about 6 months ago was jst waiting on a start date was told they lost my information that i had to reapply so I reapplied jst to b told that my position had been filled would not recommend this company to anyone at all no communication with applicants
