The only thing I liked working at Sporties were my colleagues and how we got along because everyone who wasn't admin level struggled with a non-rewarding, super-repetitive job. That, and that you get $10 on your staff card for 5 hours+ shifts for meals around the venue. If I didn't live so close to the venue, I would have quit after a month. 

There was 24/7 surveillance for the club's security, but they use a lot of it to watch their staff. Any form of talking between employees was deemed as loitering, even if you were both making a drink at the same time. Furthermore, they discouraged collaboration between employees as that involves verbal communication. There is little to no rapport between the duty managers and the other employees because they enforce such a controlling atmosphere. I have never seen such a high turnover rate of employees. 

Any email you send to HR and rostering will be tediously thrown around different departments and if you were looking for any compassionate support during unforeseen times, forget it. I've known a few colleagues whose close family members have passed away, had emailed HR and a week later they received a cold email asking them for documentation and when they would be back to work. In the employee contract, employees are entitled to compassionate leave which details 3-4 days of unpaid leave, yet they fail to mention this and take the leave out of your annual leave instead. 

You will not be commended by going above and beyond but you will be penalised when you slack off for that one second to relax and unwind after a busy period. They will do this by giving you graveyards (overnight) shifts, as they are open til 6am. Obviously, everyone will have to do some graveyards, but they punish people by giving them 4 graveyard shifts in a row. This has a drastic impact on a lot of peoples' mental health.

I have been working here for a year and a half while studying and I have not received any further training than from the initial training. I have never gotten any warnings, am meticulous and efficient at my job yet I have not been trained to fix gaming machines or become bar-trained. Many other clubs train their employees all of this at the beginning.

The culture is controlling and the training is inadequate.

Training beyond the initial induction is minimal. Staff are regularly put into roles or sections without being properly trained for them, then held responsible when something goes wrong — which feels backwards, given training is the employer’s responsibility. Other venues train staff across their areas from the start; here you’re often left to figure it out.

Performance targets don’t account for real conditions. Speed-based metrics get applied without factoring in equipment that frequently malfunctions, bottlenecks where too many staff share too few stations, long distances between work areas, and constant customer interaction. The target looks reasonable on paper and is unrealistic in practice.

The atmosphere is controlling. There’s a strong sense of being watched, and ordinary interaction between staff can be treated as slacking off, which discourages the teamwork the job actually requires. There’s little rapport between management and floor staff, and turnover is very high — which tells its own story.

Support during difficult times is lacking, and communication from HR/rostering tends to be slow and impersonal.

Pros: Some good coworkers. Regular shifts can be available.
Cons: Inadequate training, unrealistic targets, controlling culture, high turnover, limited support.

Advice to management: Train staff properly for every role before holding them to standards. Account for real working conditions in performance metrics. Build trust with floor staff instead of surveillance

Staff benefits have dwindled, now limited to a mere $10 discount and a few low-quality complimentary food items. The management is slashing the budget, resulting in a decline in perks. The kitchen staff exhibits consistently rude behaviour and offers little assistance. Disturbingly, there was an incident where a staff member was sprayed by a kitchen colleague. Attempts were made to downplay the situation, attributing it to the kitchen member's bad mood in order to avoid involving law enforcement.

While the majority of managers are friendly and courteous, there are instances of inappropriate behaviour among some managers in the club. The duty manager is frequently absent, and even when present, he fails to address and resolve issues effectively. The management displays inflexibility, often dismissing sick and annual leave inquiries.

The operational challenges are evident with daily occurrences of broken or missing items, frequent network outages, and shortages of essential food items, including basics like pasta or rice, and even drinks in the bar running out. The overall working conditions seem to be fraught with difficulties.

A typical day at work was extremely busy, which  was good because the day went quick, however my job as a cashier had the pressure of handling large amounts of cash on a constant basis and unfortunately the club did not recognise that, and so therefore not enough breaks were given to those in that area, for fatigue and the limit of mistakes in your end of day balance being limited to five dollars, were harsh, considering I handled 50,000 plus, or 250,000 per week cash to customers with only one half hour break, in a ten hour shift. and a ten minute coffee break.the most enjoyable part of the job was interaction with the patrons. and my co- workers were good to work with. you were also given lunch vouchers and the oppourtunity to attend various courses within the club was a big plus.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The people you work with are the best but the HR department cultivates a toxic workplace culture where no feedback is ever considered. They try to make life as difficult as possible for staff. The only good thing is free parking and a $10 meal allowance.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management and dealing with gambler customers, especially when it's busy. The Team Leaders, Managers and Operations Manager have zero consideration of your perspective and will try to blame you for everything if something goes wrong.

Very one sided employees get treated like slaves, I had awesome feedback from patrons however when I have had a good review from a patron managers would first investigate into why I have been getting good words instead of being immediately praised or rewarded. Managers would go into the kitchens and make them selves a coffee and drink their coffees behind their desk on the gaming floor, however staff were strictly told not to ever drink behind the kitchen we had to walk down stairs to the staff room for a drink even if it was just water. Managers and hr need to see this as staff constantly quit and they are re hiring new staff every 2 weeks there is a reason for that and it is not the employees.

Bankstown Sports Club is a fun place to work - with friendly co-staff in your department however, what Bankstown Sports doesn't deliver is a capable and well-organised HR department. Along with senior management (aside from the CEO himself) - Bankstown Sports is very reactive rather than proactive to everything, including complaints from staff and patrons - they can be unprofessional and at times can tread the line on workplace bullying.

Worst place I have ever worked. Nepotistic culture and really awful administration. HR does not care about the culture, engagement or the employees which is why they probably don't get staff to fill out surveys. The operational floor staff are treated like poorly and basically the only way to progress at this company is to be useless and not ask questions. They didn't have a parental leave policy which was up to date until recently, people who are friendly with management can get away with whatever they want. If you don't want a progressive career and just want to rest on your laurels then this is the place for you. 

My day of work there was a living nighmare got pick on and on over NOTHING nothing at all, the team leaders are sooo soo heartless mean and cruel ,the mangers are the same HR is the worst bullying in acceptable only if they don't like you you the staff are from other planet nothing good inside them pure nasty stay away from thus place trust me I went through a lot for no reason because if she he doesn't like you your are gone they will make your life work a living nightmare  they are all immature 
cant be a good person and work there they will eat you alive be careful worst place to work at

Bankstown sports has an excellent employee structure and benefits scheme along with a great support network. In my time the venue itself and resources were excellent although the overall culture and leadership left a great deal to be desired.While very "above board" and meticulous there was a lack of empathy and modern leadership amongst the leadership team. The general vibe of the business was "old school"
