BCF - Boating Camping & Fishing

BCF is a great place to work, despite what I understand are fairly standard retail wages.  I get quite a lot of exercise in any given day,  sometimes walking up to 10km in a longer shift with plenty of safe lifting and moving products out for sale and out to customers vehicles.  We have a huge range of products to get to know and I really enjoy finding leisure and outdoor solutions for customers unique requirements.  There's plenty of mandatory and optional extra training available if you seek it out with opportunities to help out at other stores during setups and stocktakes and the like.  Well performing stores are able to earn bonuses during peak periods which is nice recognition for consistent work

Great management  and staff , the moneys not to bad either

A lot of customers and the phones ringing with questions . 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Beautiful , it’s a very friendly place to work

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very busy , a lot of people enjoy sporting

The company is far more focused on online training that is irrelevant rather than show new staff what to actually do. Menial daily tasks that are repetitive and not needed.

Not great but not the worst job in the world. High turnover of staff and lack of winter hours means it’s a struggle to keep regular employees that are competent. Not too many incentives and pretty poor pay for the expected demands and hours. Customer base is alright and discount is good.

Some of the best years of my life. Great team and interesting place to work. 

Loved the environment and constantly selling products that I was extremely interested in.

Plenty of diversity and inclusion. Would recommend for someone who is a lover of the great outdoors. 

Have worked at BCF for 15 years (half of my life). The retail work teaches valuable skills to use throughout your life and other careers. Have worked full time and casual positions. The discount is great and the team are like family. 

Some great people, high turn over of managers. Saw 4 managers in 18 months. No one knows how to run a team effectively. Always putting the women on shift at the front despite requesting otherwise. Coworkers are the best part. 

Have learned heaps about different areas and still learning. Lots to know about the products the type of things you can't read in a book. High degree of customer service.

labour budgets too constrictive- 43 hours a week on salary all summer with no leave allowed and working all holidays, then winter comes and youre forced to take leave and to live on 12 hrs a week. 

Amazing place to work for plenty of benefits and the team culture is amazing. Have been with the business now for the past eleven years and it has only got better as the years have gone by
