I cannot recommend this employer as I was left without contact with HR or line management in order that my work might have had purpose and reliable appraisal.  I questioned why I was employed in the first place and was on the receiving end of unprofessional behaviour (with denial of this) and was eventually glad to leave although I did give it some opportunity to establish an appropriate equilibrium.  This did not happen because of  typical unproductive institutional politics.

The contract I had at the Attorney-General's Department was the most poorly managed short-term contract I have ever experienced in the Australian Public Service over some 23 years (not all continuous).  Be very wary of taking a contract with this Department. If you go in for a 3-month contract with the possibility of an extension, don't regard the extension as a surety.  The work is organized in small cells with little or no contact with other teams.

Great development & training, limited opportunities for growth in HR. Good hours limited resources - had to use own vehicle. Time differences between departments / locations.

The work was very customer service orientated and the Department's work place culture was concentrated on providing the best possible outcome for our clients(Veterans and their family). A continual chance to improve oneself was always available.

Sometimes getting to meet new staff members was good and most of the time this happened, and you also got to go out for lunch with your work mates and also the new people.

I worked in the finance area and managed large contracts.

The hardest part of this job was all the red tape and different interpretations of a policy.

I learnt that you only get promoted if you are a "yes man".

Excellent Work-Life Balance all job applications are conducted via the online web portal and generally require selection criteria responses. Dealing with Red tape is a way of life here.

During my time in APS, from commencement as a HR operator to HR Manager/Director I have developed a excellent understanding of all aspects of HR and Payroll including SAP Processing.

While enjoyed working for APS, I find it hard to get into and then once you are in, there are clich'es or groups that you need to fit into or you get pushed out, quiet quickly.

Enjoyed the work and culture of the APS. Wonderful and supportive team environment, especially for graduates. Focus of delivering quality policy outcomes.
