Australian Home Care

MY DAY comprised of waking up my client, showering him, dressing him, getting him breakfast, playing games eg scrabble, to help him keep focused as he had an acquired brain injury.  After breakfast we would go to the gymnasium where I would help my client with the equipment and getting on and off equipment.  We would then go to the swimming pool where I would assist my client with pool exercises.  I was responsible for his belongings and ensuring that he was on time and participating.  After swimming we would go home and have lunch and then head up the street to go shopping or errands that needed attention.  We would then walk home  about 1km (me on foot and my client in his electric wheelchair).  After this we would have a drink and I would help him to the toilet, getting changed.  Putting all his swimming clothes in the laundry and gym clothes too.  Then it was casual for about an hour until hometime for me. 
 I LEARNED to be very observant to my client's needs.  I assisted him with many tasks.  I learned about his condition and how to monitor his condition.   MANAGEMENT was easy as taking medication was very specific and already arranged.       THERE WERE NO CO-WORKERS.  I worked alone with my client.   THE HARDEST PART of my job was the mental concentration and sometimes stress as my client was very dependent upon me for all his needs.  THE MOST ENJOYABLE part was working with a lovely person, who tried always to be friendly and amiable in his dealings with all people.  He was very honest and   was fun to be around as he had a great sense of humor.  He has now moved and I need to find another job, preferably doing nightfill or something less stressful.

A typical day at work involves driving to clients homes and assisting them with personal care, shopping, transportation to appointments, medication assist (supervision), meal assistance, and some light domestic duties. 

I have learnt much more about those living with MS, as part of my job is to assist those with MS both in home setting and in residential facility. 

Management have been clear and transparant, and provide good feedback.

My co-workers have been pleasant and friendly, however as a HACC worker I rarely get to see other support workers, unless I am working in residential facility such as MS facility. 

The hardest part of the job would be the travelling to and from, as sometimes the travel time can "exceed" the actual length of the shift you are going too, and this unfortunately does place a burden financially in regards to cost of petrol. 

The most enjoyable part of this job is when I see the difference I have made to someone living with a disabiity, the small things we take for granted - which we do everyday, such as getting up out of bed, to be able to help those who cant is very rewarding indeed and I hope in future to expand on this area, helping those achieve more with their ADL and even academic pursuits.

met some great people started working with Australian home care because my mother in law was under them for her house cleaning though work care I learnt that people use home care for different reasons.

I Currently am volunteering at benetas in lifestyle and have been doing this for the past eleven years however things are changing at this facility and I feel that my work is not going to improve so I am currently looking for some more permanent work I have a great re pore  with the lifestyle manager that I work under at this facility.

Everyday I let a mates dog out into his yard and look after the house while his away sometimes he works from early morning to late afternoon this way the dog doesn't annoy the neighbors.

my role started at 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. 

I learned how to complete rosters, time management, liaise with other funding bodies, how to give the client the best services for their funding., arranging services for a client when a support worker took holidays, WHS for the support workers, orientation for new staff members, learning to liaise with clients over the phones, arranging the correct support worker for the client, filing, archiving, completing payroll for support workers and being proactive for clients and support workers.
Management was supportive. 
Workplace culture was inclusive.
The hardest part of the job was when one of our clients died.

The most enjoyment part of the job was meeting new people and knowing you were making a differences in a person life.

A typical day for me is  managing client and support worker rosters, filling last minute vacancies and scheduling in new training for staff.

I have learned that it takes patience and forward thinking to complete this role successfully. The Management in team is fair and approachable. This is a supporting environment.
The hardest part of the job I do is finding the right support worker matches with clients, however I enjoy the challenge.
I enjoy speaking to my clients on a daily basis, as well as chatting to my support workers about there days and experiences.

My typical days starts in looking and inspecting the home or business, In seeing what needs to be done first. 

1;  Firstly, clear the area of any rubbish
2;  dusting
3;  tiding kitchen
4;  vacuuming
5;  mopping
6;  bathrooms ,toilets 
7;  check all work , communicate with client
8;  working in clients homes as it would be your home
9; communication and honesty and respect of each other
 
 The hardest parts of the jobs I find are the bathrooms, the scrubbing and wiping of showers.

The best part of the job is conversing with the client.
 And when everything is done, And client is Happy.

Definitely the most enjoyable part of this job are the wonderful people that you get to work with in their home environment,
 The variety of people and the diverse nature of their stories.
Sharing witrh co workers the responsibility for carrying out care plans of individual clients.

What is the best part of working at the company?
None/ they rip me off 4 $187000.00 in unpaid wages which I was successful in a court case(Federal court)

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Very long Hours having to do everything

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Poison. The boss works from oversees so you can't get in touch till night time

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful having to everything by yourself

When I started working there they were situated in Bentleigh which was close to home and then they moved and it became too far for me. I then decided that I wanted to follow my passion, which was to be a counselor in Grief and Loss and Relationships and that is why I left.

The coordination team works very closely together. We have a lot of laughs, we celebrate birthdays, had a luncheon together every Friday.I really enjoy the people i work with. Especially the different cultures.
