As a meat hand at ACC, the pallets that you pack meat onto are valued more than you are. Office staff have the power to shut down entire sections of the factory at a whim, meaning that your job security is non-existent. Machinery constantly breaks down, meaning you have to compromise, which usually consists of putting meat elsewhere until it can be put where it needs to be. I once had to lift 8 tonnes of meat in one day because the conveyor belt broke down. work starts before the sun is up, and if you clean the floors while everyone else is on break, you won't see the sun until midday. The workplace culture is appalling, breakdowns are a common occurrence among the workers, and nothing is done about them apart from a pat on the back and a "back to work". The only thing that makes the job bearable are the other workers, because you're all in it together. Management has a field day belittling the workers, that is when they are around. At ACC, I learned that my life has more value than this workplace leads me to believe.

# your days off were not your days off if they decided they needed you more than you deserved your rostered days off

My role as a Product and Process Technician at Australian Country Choice was my first job out of University within my own field of study. It was a massive learning curve for me understanding the way the meat industry functions and what the Australian consumers want as far beef is concerned. I learned to manage the laboratory and work with other associated departments at the same time. My role allowed me to learn that different departments have targets and priorities which in the end all meld to meeting the customer's requirements. Most of my co-workers were highly experienced staff who have been working in the red meat industry for a long time and this was great for me as I got to understand the nature of the food product.

Can name better places to work where you can advance into higher positions faster. Don't ever get sick because not even a medical certificate will save you. Everyone new starts through labour hire no matter how much experience you have which means your not entitled to sick pay or annual leave, a percentage of your pay goes to the labour hire while someone employed with the company doing same job as you is getting $10 more an hour than you. Waiting period to join the company is roughly 3-4 years. Hope to be happy with the position they give you even though you are qualified for higher positions as you'll be waiting forever to advance. Oh and unless you work with knives, don't expect a locker.

If you want to be treated like another number, this is a place for you. There is a reason why this place has an absurdly high turn over rate. Daily overtime is forced onto you (You can't say no). There will be pay issue nearly every week and they will try their best to rip you off. The management would not care about you. If you are a hard worker or competent, you will be doing more work for the same amount of money. They will try their best to not let you advance as to not pay you more money. However, the colleagues are nice being that they are in a same boat. I stuck around for two years because there are a lack of jobs due to COVID but all and all, if you can find another place to work, just do so.

- labour hire takes a lot of your pay
- machine broke down one time, we had to stop for 5 hours, didn’t get paid for the 5 hours we were on stand by (started work at 8AM FINISHED NEARLY MIDNIGHT ONLY GOT PAID 9.5 HOURS)
- no definitive time for smokos/lunch and finishing time
- although you’re a full-time skilled worker it will only take luck to make you a permanent worker, so that means no sick pays and annual leave
- only get a sunday off even though it’s only a 4 day roster
- unorganised, I had different people teach me packing every one of them taught me different ways of how to put the meat properly

Nothing  they work too hard, but no money and treat you like a terrible place to work

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They treat you like you’re nothing worst place I’ve ever worked. I do not recommend it to anybody

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Its terrible do not work there terrible atmosphere

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Think of the worst day of your life that’s what it’s like working there. I take breaks every hour and 15 minutes, then take it off you at the end of the day

While working at ACC the foremans were very down to earth and approachable supervisors, the company took great care of any employee who sustained an injury whether great or small and provided a great health care and physiotherapy system to help get their valued employees back into their jobs as soon as they had completely mended and were capable of recommencing their position with minimal chance of their recent injury being of concern.

Checking stock levels that has been used.
Comparing stock levels against reorder levels in the system.
Raising purchase orders, sending them off to suppliers.
Comparing pricing from the supplier to our system costs.
Any price variance check out with the supplier.
Receipting inward goods, rechecking pricing on receipting.
Daily reports, monthly reports.
Submit and follow up on supplier contracts.
Management only try to find fault with any work you do.
When you find and try to implement any improvement it is declined ad then all of a sudden down the track it is implemented by some one else.

Its very pro active as for organisation in the company it is very stressful to see orders being put in for the week and the supervisor tryin to do it all in one day puts alot of stress not only on themselves but also on the workers in saying the packers are the hardest working people in the boning room trying to fulfil these orders for mangement and supervisors.
The most part that i enjoyed was getting to know people in the room and getting along with them. so co-workers were pretty awesome.
