As a sales representative, a typical day at work began at 8am and went through to approx. 6pm.  Always on call, mobile always left on. Spent around 2 days per week in office (home office) and 3 days on the road. Had a customer base of approx. 150.  What I learned were 1/ Exceptional Customer Service - critical to have happy customers, this what gets you repeat business. Always do what you promise to do.  2/ OH & S - The Company was very highly committed to OH & S, even for an External Rep.  Car services completed on time, changing tyres when needed, checking air pressure in tyres.  Checking to make sure no objects inside the vehicle.  Full set of PPE in the boot of the car, for site visiting. 3/ Co-workers - Being very aware of needing full co-operation from all co-workers.  Not letting personal differences interfere with the job. 4/ Management - Total respect for all management.  Reports/paperwork, etc all completed in full and on time.  5/ Hardest part of the job - situations that are out of your control - ie production and or delivery errors. Respond quickly and do what is needed to fix the problem for the end customer and sort out where the problem was later.  6/ Most enjoyable part of the job - Happy Customers and satisfaction when you know you have done your job well.

The best aspect about this position was that, although run according to deadlines set by the CBS, there was a great deal of freedom in how you personally organised your workload. Setting out particular times in which to attempt making contact with houses were an excellent to both train one's time management skills, as well as demonstrate a consistent work ethic. My direct manager was my area supervisor, who provided excellent training prior to undertaking the position and continued to provide excellent guidance and support over the course of the working phase of the job. The most enjoyable part of the job was seeing the results of my efforts, in terms of Census completions for households, over the course of the month as more people responded and my workload shrank. The hardest part of the job was keeping my energy levels and motivation up during attempted visits, as physically travelling to the households in question was often physically taxing. This was easily combated by taking breaks and ensuring I was adequately hydrated. Overall, it was an excellent experience and I would love the chance to work in such a position in the future.

I actually enjoyed most of the challenges within my positions and stretched my capabilities quite significantly; however, not everyone is interested in applying themselves. There is quite significant apathy (and I too experienced this at certain periods) and this is why the ABS is ahead in some areas and way behind in other ways. The most frustrating point for me was ‘integrity’ as this is what attracted me into the ABS. I think with all the new directions coming into my section that the section was moving away from the core beliefs e.g. collaboration; and this is due to some individuals not liking change, personal dislikes, having to apply themselves, etc.. Eventually people get intolerant, leave, angry, etc.. I personally prefer collaboration but you soon learn that there is always someone that will damage someone else’s integrity in order to get their work. It’s natural to follow your friends (like minded people) opinions; however, I am an individual and make decisions on whats appropriate rather than being mischievous.

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and working with everyone from the ABS. Unfortunately the employment was for only 6 months but if offered the position for the next census, I would gladly do it again.

I had all the training and support I needed. A respectful, safety conscious and very, very productive place to work. A real pleasure to work for.

Management were always ready to listen to new ideas, new approaches. If there were any difficulties in the field they were always ready to assist any way they could by phone.

I worked as closely as possile with other Area Managers, in fact two of us joined forces and shared all training of staff members for both teams. All Area Managers in the Campbelltown/Macarthur region got on very well and were ready to assist each other.

The hardest part of the job was dealing with some members of the public who were very rude and arrogant to my team members, but even these became more manageable just with answering their questions and concerns.

The most enjoyable part of the job was meeting so many wonderful people and the exercise.

The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) has pledged to develop and implement coordinated strategies to address the key causes and determinants of Indigenous disadvantage. It has agreed six high level targets for closing the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. 
These targets are:
•	to close the gap in life expectancy within a generation; 
•	to halve the gap in mortality rates for Indigenous children under five within a decade; 
•	to ensure all Indigenous four year olds in remote communities have access to early childhood education within five years; 
•	to halve the gap in reading, writing and numeracy achievements for Indigenous children within a decade; 
•	to halve the gap for Indigenous students in year 12 attainment or equivalent attainment rates by 2020; and 
•	to halve the gap in employment outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians within a decade.

My typical work day started around 8:00 AM and I prepared my workload for the day, I check my messages from the company and sit down and start working. I choose an hour or two for lunch and then resume work, which may continue until 8:00 PM.
I learned computer skills and respect for the privacy and beliefs of members of the households we interviewed. I learned to manage my time and how to structure my working day.
I came into contact with the management and my colleagues at conferences and training courses. 
The hardest part of the job was working around households who had limited time for surveys. 
The most enjoyable parts of the job were meeting a broad range of people and have a certain amount of freedom to structure my day.

Some procedures are absent and some are updated and released ad hoc. 
Overall, work-life balance is excellent for those who feel confident in their abilities and are supported by management to define their deadlines and goals. 
I required a review of my contract at finalisation of the Census (and so did my seven staff,) due to the vast differences between the estimate of contract hours that we were engaged under and the actual hours it took to perform the work. 
Not all contract parameters are made clear at commencement which is perceived as a little deceitful by junior staff, this outcome makes it difficult for supervisors to respond to staff enquiries.

i am well balanced and time management is a by word.get along well with other members of the workforce and am happy to lend a hand when ever needed can except responsibilty and am a quick learner the typical day at work would be to make sure staff were allocated jobs to suit their abilities and would not overpower them.co workers are the main stay of any team and should be treated with respect and honesty.keep in touch with management to let them know of any concerns that may be on the horizon.the hardest part of the job would be to tell somebody that they are no longer required although they may have been an assett to the company.best part of the job working in a team enviroment and finishing a job that was thought beyond the team.

You are require to learn a lot about your job and is all online with some detail given in a couple of sessions of face to face.
You start the day by logging and maintaining constant contact sending all the information that you have received. You have to carry with you an i pad, your ID material to be delivered and extras in case of misplacement and the most important dealing with clients face to face on the most trying of circumstances, whatever the situation you have to deal the results have to be obtain. Learn a lot about people and their circumstances, deal with different parameters either personal or work related to mantain the respect and position you are representing.

Edit unit record data to ensure the data  is correct and provide an  adequate explanation when large movements  are observed. Reports are compiled monthly and need finalised and distributed at the clearing meeting. I learnt how data present to the stories or business by identifying significant issues such as problem with their data.
Management at ABS are helpful, 
Workplace at ABS are friendly, teamwork and support as well as healthy and safety workplace.
The hardest part are contact to  difficult clients / providers who don't want to participate to the surveys or limited time / busy time to follow up the significant issues from business.
