The energy industry in general is in a state of flux due to Regulatory Income Restrictions and this affects both staff moral due to the impact that these restrictions have on OPEX and by extension job security. 

But there are a substantial number of positives associated with working for this organisation, not the least of which are the majority of the staff who work there, who are for the most part positive with a can do attitude. 

During the period that I was employed at Ausgrid I was given numerous opportunities to learn new functions and processes and the Management in the various areas that I worked in were predominantly supportive. 

The hardest part of my role was convincing people that despite being an effective monopoly and being construed as paying lip service to wanting a Positive Customer Experience ethos for the most part this is untrue and the staff work hard to make the company's vision a reality but it is not possible to make everyone happy 100% of the time. 

The most enjoyable part of my role was dealing with disenfranchised customers and bringing them around.

Its been a great place to work , good people, good training.a typical day i cannot say every day is a challenge.Ive had  some good social occassions at ausgrid like playing golf, cricket, tabletennis and  lunches.
Sometimes the job can be very hard when you have to work in a live underground substation in the middle of  summer its not easy wearing arc rated clothing which doesnt burn in a fire and is quite heavy.
My job has always involved dealing with many people  the general public and contractors building site managers and ausgrid management who have generally been quite helpful.
The culture has always been good with vast majority of workers there to have a laugh  do all our work in a professional manner and respect the feelings of other people.

I worked here for just over 8 years the workplace changed drastically over this time. The drive for change to the safety culture of the business was the greatest shift from when I started this was gradual but I really feel they were able to improve safety and change the culture of the cowboy electricians. The only reason I left this business was due to the looming privatisation that hasn't happened. Really regret leaving such an inclusive and team focused work place that while efficiency was a focus safety was always at the forefront of all management and management was open to new ideas for improvements from all levels of the organisation which is very rare.

The job was very much driven by timetables and an overall requirement for accuracy in an unstable systems environment where the SAP ERP billing/debtors package was being implemented.  A good deal of time was spent on validating data and then writing an analysis in a form suitable for the CEO and the Board.  I didn't a great deal as I had had a similar but more complex position at Telstra  in the 1980s.  Co-workers were generally good but there were a few perennially difficult people in other divisions that added unnecessary complexity.  The most enjoyable was positive feedback when the reporting was timely and accurate,

Working at Ausgrid has provided me excellent opportunities to develop my knowledge and skills in all areas of Work Health and Safety. The incredibly vast scope of the work force from office administration workers, contractors, labourers, technicians, line workers, high voltage line workers, operators and area through to executive management has provided me the experience, ability and confidence to perform work in all areas of an organisation ranging  from the meeting and committee room to the high risk construction site.

Ausgid has given me many opportunities after moving there from Integral Energy were I was engaged as a Civil Project Manager. Since loining the team at Ausgrid I have worked on many Construction Projects and been involved in an ongoing Preventative Maintenance Program. Ausgrid have also had a progressive program to provide further educational opportunities directly linked to the Construction Industry with both Internal and External training.

Toxic place to work. Environment lead to mental health issues because of a poor culture stemming from union vs corporate stalemate and constant pressure from management to offshore or subcontract jobs leading to constant job insecurity.

Management expecting unreasonable targets requiring "look the other way" shortcuts to meet with some workers backstabbing others for personal gain.

Every day was a pleasure to work with the wonderful people and management of Ausgrid.

Great culture, lovely work mates, always happy to help. 

Training was easy to understand and follow and the trainers were to  patient and calm. 

Management are very understanding, easy to approach and talk to.

Hardest part of job was customers not answering.

Most enjoyable part was everyday.

- as part of my duty , I issue visitor passes to visitors through a passage point system , check ID , respond to alarm , patrol the building, customer services by answering the phones , emails and faxes
