The work is easy, but the store owners dont roster enough staff to save money. Often only 1 or 2 people working when there's a line out the door. It's physically exhausting, especially in summer it will be hotter inside the store than outside and you dont get any breaks. Staff icecream used to be free, but they changed it to a 10% staff discount. The promotion to supervisor process doesn't make sense - as an experienced staff member I had to train supervisors who were new employees but I was just a base-level employee? Last minute shift cancelling: sometimes I travelled all the way there and they told me to just go straight home because they always try to save money with less staff.  Shifts during winter are super limited, maybe a 4 hour shift a fortnight. Equipment is always broken and the store owners take weeks to fix it. Staff often worked sick, you are expected to find your own shift covers. Some staff members had their shifts cut as an indirect punishment for making a mistake - they didn't fire people, just iced them out. Store owners dont communicate well, they kept rostering me on even after I clearly quit.

To make matters worse, there seemed to be a lack of clear communication and expectations from management. I was never provided with constructive feedback or given a chance to address any concerns they may have had. Instead, I was blindsided by my sudden termination, leaving me shocked and confused about what had transpired. I realize that the work environment at Augustus Gelatery was not conducive to employee growth and well-being. The toxic staff dynamics, lack of support from management, and the absence of a transparent communication system all contributed to my negative experience.

it’s fun working if you’re with good coworkers but the management sucks and everything is always broken, boss doesn’t care and won’t fix anything unless it impacts sales. there aren’t really any benefits apart from being paid and the flexible hours, no discounts, free stuff ect also hardly any shifts over winter, they don’t put off staff during winter so you’re stuck with one shift a fortnight lmao

Expect to take on more responsibilities with little to no reward. Constant changing of rosters. Expected to find your own shift covers. Will cut your hours without any warning or sometimes as an indirect punishment. Kids (15-17yo) closing shop alone late at night. Money is good, however this job is not worth it. Management will use you when convenient. 

Coworkers are super nice! Rushes can sometimes be a little difficult but that's what a team is for :) You guys work altogether to serve, customers are generally nice but if anything, its nothing too extreme. Really recommend as a first job!!

Work is pretty straightforward and can be fun but new management has made the workplace nasty.
Shifts can be unpredictable and sometimes I can go three weeks without getting a shift. Alot of people have quit because of this reason.
Poor management communication.


It’s an amazing place to work and the people you work with are a blast, highly recommend to anyone that’s looking for a job or even just a some income 

they pay minimum wage and there are no benefits like discounts or free scoops, the work is pretty easy though and the staff (that i have worked with at least) are nice but you don't really gain or advance many skills

It’s a good job to get you started but wouldn’t recommend staying there for long. There’s not a lot of advancement so your skills aren’t often being tested or increased

great place to work while in high school and or studying at university. lovely people to work with. only downside is that i usually only receive one shift a week.
