What is the best part of working at the company?
Great boss.  Firm but fair.  Can have a laugh with her.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not being able to access the toilet during lock door time if there is someone in the store.  So the store/company policy doesn't make allowance for the building design.  The toilets here are in a communal area which means the attendant must come out from behind the counter to go.  If this person is in a hurry there's a big risk that they won't make it and they will be left humiliated and uncomfortable for the rest of their shift which maybe up to 4 hours.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Overall great.  

Some of the policies are foolish and don't match the store's set-up or needs.  Certain products for sale are withdrawn and disappoint certain customers.

Support among team members with regard to covering shifts for sickness, etc is overall great.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It varies so much and can be quiet or very busy with no time to scratch oneself!  It involves doing certain jobs as well as serve customers or training when required on the laptop.  

Once clocked on I will generally have to get on with particular jobs for the period of the day while I'm on with someone else particularly so that I can get them done reasonably quickly.  I will need to check the toilets so many times per shift and sign off on them on an app-based programme.

I am a barista so making hot drinks is an all-day thing.  We also have a small kitchen so basic food preparation is also a common task.

If I'm on late in the day I need to make sure doors are locked at a certain time and watch for admitting people into the store.  As the day goes on its routine to gradually close down the tills and do end-of-day procedures at the right time.

Cleaning is always a routine throughout the store as is shutting the bain marie down and tossing out food that's out of date.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Having flexible days and hours to work.  Being able to say no to a shift request.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with stupid customers who either think they're entitled or don't know what they want when they come to the counter.  Customers who deliberately order coffee and food when they can see I am on my own, have a few others to serve and don't care if they hold someone up who's just trying to pay for fuel.  Higher ranked (head office) staff who makes changes just for the sake of it.  Not being able to use the toilet when I need to go because of lock door policy related nonsense.  Being in a business that uses communal toilets and the business next door not sharing the cleaning duties with us.

Environment good most of the time.  Culture good.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Cooking food and wasting it when it's had it's time in the display cabinet, emptying bins, restocking everything, doing defrosting (getting food out of the freezer and putting it in tubs in the coolroom so it's ready to go), serving customers, making coffee, checking the toilets, depending on the shift, cleaning kitchen equipment or espresso machine, cleaning floor, taking temps of equipment, doing a pie bake, forecourt duties.


Working in a retail job has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me. From day one, I've been immersed in a dynamic environment that constantly challenges and hones my skills. The thrill of interacting with diverse customers from all walks of life has been a delightful aspect of the job. Each day brings new opportunities to assist, engage, and provide exceptional service to patrons, fostering meaningful connections.

What truly sets the retail job apart is the chance to learn and grow professionally. I've been exposed to various aspects of retail, from visual merchandising to inventory management, and honed my problem-solving abilities. The teamwork and camaraderie among colleagues create a supportive and motivating atmosphere, making each shift enjoyable.

While the job can be demanding during busy hours, the sense of accomplishment in meeting targets and ensuring customer satisfaction is unparalleled. Overall, a retail job offers a platform for personal and professional development, making it an invaluable and enriching experience.

I have worked in many jobs  and this has topped them all  the staff and friends I have  made and life skills along the way has helped me become a better mum and wife. 
Don't get me wrong it's hard work like everything else  best part u don't need to be ovlery fit  u can just be you.  The team I work amongst is amazing and  hard-working and everything is shared  and management is amazing. There is room to grow  there's room for everyone to be the best they can be. 

Tips everyday is different   yes sometimes same stuff different  day but  iv seen so cool things  being right on the hw  also some sad things 

 Your only limited to ur imagination  lots of cleaning dose get done but the staff managers get there hands dirty to  don't think it's just all on you we all have turn of the notty gritty jobs noone like doing 

Hardest part  would be  lines out the doors during peek hours and holidays weekends   best part is talking to customers  helping them making there day as easy and stress free by having everything they need in one place.

Ampol is a very disconnected company. The retail division (Foodary sites) is chronically understaffed and the pressures and tasks keep mounting up continually. Their retail workforce is underpinned with short tenure, unreliable and uninvested casual workers. This translates to all the heavy lifting workload being burdened upon usually one or two part time workers and the manager at each site. The communication channel between site managers speaks loudly of the disconnected attitudes of senior management whom are oblivious and uninterested in the workload and stress they are delivering upon their frontline workers and managers. All the while pushing forth the company ethos "Ampol Cares".

Big company with lots of different places to work at. Lots to learn and great if you thrive in a fast paced, challenging environment. There never seems to be enough employees so there is lots of upward mobility within the retail side of the business if you are looking to advance. Coffee is excellent. 

Significant disconnect between head-office and retail stores. It feels like every week there are additional tasks to complete with no extra time allocated. This means working additional hours unpaid due to the way the salary is set up.

Annual Bonus program is set up in a way that it will typically pay out very little.  

In my experience if your Business Manager does not live nearby you will basically never see them. 

a typical day at work is wanting to get out of bed and go to work a passion of learning different things having a sense of humor meeting new people . to me management is a huge responsibility not every one can do it can be very stressful when your bosses want answers but can be very rewarding if things are going good and the bosses give you a pat on the back and say great job don't really like working in big places the smaller the better for me don't have to put up with people who whinge and complain smaller places every one seems more happier hardest part of the job when your starting a new job learning new things and  a boss and expecting you to know everything in such a short time with any job its up to you to learn its called common sense . most enjoyable part of the job is everyone gets along and have a laugh and the boss is happy every one is doing their job

Been here for 2 years and wages haven't increased even though work load has increased and HR do not care whatsoever about any feedback you give them at all. Management is constantly stressed out from being overworked and not paid fairly for the amount of work they are doing. I strongly suggest avoiding this company as their HR department does not care for their staff one bit. Staff constantly required to do the work of 2 or 3 people by themselves then HR get mad when things aren't done 😒


It’s a great job during the honeymoon period (first 6 months) but sadly after that ends you are left pulling knives out of your back from people you thought you could trust. Double standards galore and very inconsistent when it comes to enforcing policies and procedures. Kitchen also uses off food to prepare meals for (using expired bacon for breakfast and serving it to customers, as well as keeping the leftover cooked bacon in the fridge for 3 days to use it at a later date)… don’t know how this place is still running, major health and safety concerns. A few staff are good but the majority of them are childish and honestly intolerable. If you love the feeling of people stuck at high school again with all the bickering and talking behind people’s backs then this is the workplace for you. 

The start was hard as I had to learn a lot of policies. This got easier quickly though. The pay is good for Casual work. I liked working there though I did not like having to be just a Monkey. They are very strict on what can be done / changed and are not open up to new ideas. When the dollars start to get tighter in the future if they do not change their ways they will fade away. The company seems to be run by Managers sitting in the highest of Castles and cannot really see what is happening on the ground. It is a great job it you just want to be a mindless Monkey and just do what you are told with out any back chat.
