American Cruise Lines

Last August I was hired at American Cruise Lines as a dining room steward. It was possibly the greatest and hardest job and commitment I've ever accomplished. Working seven days a week seemed insane to me but I rose to the challenge. I worked on the West coast for close to 7 months and the work we did was very rewarding. 

Boat life had its challenges with being apart from family, living with complete strangers and adjusting to time difference. The community that we built on board is the reason we all sticked with it. The family and bond we formed are forever lasting. Management on board (with my experience) really cared about your mental health and well being. We were encouraged to really seek healthy avenues to better ourselves. Having food catered was definitely a major plus, the chefs always made it a point to cater to our needs.

The guest on board were very well to us. Our interactions were always pleasant and very positive. Our management also made sure to make our guest interactions safe and well.

Overall I enjoyed my time on board with American Cruise Lines.

The first month I worked on the glory ship was fun. Only because of the ppl I worked with. Other than that I hated it! First off let me tell you about the pay. On average, it was about $700 a week. Yes that's great but you work from 6 am or earlier until 9:30 to 10pm. YOU DO NOT GET ONE DAY OFF!! The breaks are depending on how fast everyone works. So if you have that one person that slows everyone down and is being lazy, you'll have a shorter break. We typically had a hour or two break. No time to really check out the scenery. The scenery was nice but it's new England. Not too much to see in all honesty. Yes they pay for travel and food. That's the best part of the job. But that's it. New Management all the time. I stayed for two months and got out of there because the ship kept breaking down. The generator kept going off and on. No drinking what so ever,  which is understandable. The women/men's quarters were disgusting!! This job is for the the experience. If your homeless or have allot of time on your hands this is the job for you. whenever they can ship you out after training you have to be ready.

With my time here I’ve had many positive experiences that over power the negative ones. I’ve made many friends with coworkers and guests. I get to travel to destinations that I’ve been longing to go and get paid for it. It’s been a wonderful experience for me and I’m so grateful for it.  A spontaneous decision to apply for this job has made my life change in such a positive way! I can’t wait to move forward with the company. 

This is a  great opportunity to enter the cruise ship industry. 
 After a Skype interview I was hired as a deckhand. The captain and the mate taught me a lot about the operation of the vessel even ship systems.   I also had the opportunity to meet so many new people.  The passengers were all very nice and very interesting.
I really enjoyed meeting my fellow crew members; they come from all over the United States.
I would recommend this job to family and friends.

The company is an amazing company to work for!  It’s a lot of hours and hard work. You meet amazing guests and coworkers that make up for it all. You get to travel and see places you may have never thought of to go see. You have time to get off the boat on you break and explore.  You truly do have a boat family and make life long friends! 

The training was amazing! They will totally prepare you very well for the ship. You’ll love it, stay determined! :) also the be prepared for working smart, and knowing that you have encouragement along the way. They help you, you’re not alone.

The Trainers don’t make you feel bad for asking plenty of questions, even if the questions are the same and asked multiple times.  Trainers make sure you understand the material no matter what. Even if they have to explain it in a variety of ways. 

Great experience. Alot of work and hours with barely any down time.  But definitely worth doing for at least one full contract.  Pay is descent but due to working so much there isn't anytime to spend the money.  Living situations depend on what boat you're assigned too.

Every where you work there are responsibilities and work to do, if you love what you do it will make it easy like a walk on the park, give us a try and you will love it 

Overall if you have served it will be simple just some extra fine dining tricks and you’ll be golden. Ive been in the industry for 7 years and once it became hands on training I was set
