Typical day at work and what I learned: 
Depends on where you are trained in. Outbound is super stressful due to the need to hit CPT where the KPI rate targets are grossly unrealistic for the training they provide. We are taught to follow strict guidelines (quality/standard work tips) for us to do our job correctly and ensure quality which is fine on its own, but there is no way you hit the rate target while following these guidelines. Their rebuttal is that "other people are hitting rate so why can't you" which makes no sense because people that hit rate don't follow the standard work guidelines. Either lower the rate target or revise these standard work tips.
Inbound is comparatively less stressful. 

Management:
Depends highly on your PA/AM. The outbound AM for the FC i worked at is awful. Cannot handle pressure and resorts to taking his stress out on everyone else. Constantly micromanaging and urging everyone to hurry up which doesn't make anyone work faster; just makes everyone panic and make more mistakes. Negative reinforcement. Contradictory statements (he will urge everyone to follow standard work guidelines but then when he helps out at rebin/totewrangle he would skip those guidelines in order to go faster).
The management team as a whole needs to work on being on the same page. One PA may tell you one thing, then another PA will call you out for doing it.

Workplace Culture:
Strange cult-like culture that is particularly more evident in outbound than inbound. Very strange tendency for some managers to recite Amazon core values more often than not and very strange approach to empower workers in the sense that it sounds fake. However, it isn't something that gets in the way of your work. 

Hardest part of the job:
If you're a casual you'll have to deal with the recruitment agency which are awful. They will change shifts last minute and manipulate you into taking shifts. Treatment is unfair and uneven. They will hard punish you for taking days off or saying no to extra shifts even if you have a legitimate reason by giving you no shifts. They pretend they care about their associates but its all a front. They are not afraid to phase out workers who call in sick no matter how reliable they have been in the past because. You will constantly live in fear of wondering if you'll get shifts or not so you force yourself to grind godawful hours and say yes to everything they ask. That said, work here is very unstable if you remain a casual. 

Best parts of the job:
The hourly pay rate is reasonable and fair. Some managers are a lot better than others and are a lot more understanding and supportive. It seems that the managers who are less susceptible to Amazon's cult like values are the better ones. If you are successful in applying for permanency, you won't have to deal with the awful recruitment agency which is a huge plus.

Recommendations:
If you plan on working long term you must apply for permanency. If you are in need of a short term gig then this job is fine.

Name sake policies, they don’t care about hard working people. So many old bludgers hiding for years only newcomers will be picked on

Toxic culture of dobbing people which is encouraged by managers, safety and HR

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
On an average walk around 22km a day. Heavy lifting upto 21kg. They have a team lift policy but you won’t find anyone around to help you when needed. And if you complain about the weight they will tell to to perform team lift. This goes in circles and you end up lifting on your own. As said only name sake policies

The management is horrible at the new mel5 been working there since September and they expect you to have no life outside of work when you tell them in advance that you can’t work certain days they get mad at you and roster you on those days then when you tell them you can’t work it they say when you applied for this job you said you were available all the time they expect you to work sometimes up to 50 hours a week and every weekend. They put so much pressure on you when your working there that you have to be really fast and if not to expected time you get in trouble. Your getting timed on the rf scanner and they expect you to get from one section to the next in 100 seconds even if you have to go from one side of the wearhouse to the next. Very demanding but the only thing I liked was the other employees that work around you 

Environment is toxic. As an order picker you are trained for only 2 days and they basically expect you to be perfect and make no mistakes whatsoever. You get pulled up for everything from the way you park your car, if you're 2 minutes over your lunch break, incorrect totes, not picking fast enough etc etc. It almost feels like you are in high school. Only a handful of people are willing to help if you get stuck otherwise you are on your own and just learn on as you go. The whole process is ridiculous. All shelves you pick from are mostly disorganised and messy. And not properly catergorised or in appropriate order. For example; you have dog food mixed in with baby food or high end items with cat litter. Makes no sense. 

I have been working there since september as a casual and I can say that on multiple times the management lacked professionalism and were very rude in the way they treat employees. I worked two jobs both casuals, and I got a call this afternoon stating that it's against policy to have another job (even though this was my main job before lockdown) and just told me to resign. Not even a thank you for my job just a casual 'ciao'. I am still in shock at the management interaction with employees and the verbal abuse. I however enjoyed the other team members I was working with, PAs very kind and helpful. Just disappointed overall.

A working day at Amazon is always different which can be great if you like variety however it wasn't for me. The management at Amazon were terrible and lacked compassion regarding my mental health and i wasn't paid for two week's with no explanation given for this. Agency management were frequently looking for a fight and would pick on everything you did or didn't do. Poor organisation in the warehouse and rude staff the rules would change frequently whenever it suited Amazon

Amazon looks after all your needs whether mental fatigue,ageism, stress,counsellor service.
You are provided with all the skills to perform your job well.
Safety is a priority.
Advancement for all irrespective of age,race,religion or gender.
Hard workers are well rewarded.
Every day is different but as long as you remain customer focused you will be ok.
Quality conscience, performance without being a time waster are strengths required to be a valuation asset at Amazon.Honesty is another priority as you are trusted as an employee.

Working in an Amazon warehouse was an enriching experience for me. I enjoyed the structured environment, where clear guidelines and procedures helped me stay organized and efficient in my tasks. The camaraderie among my team members made each day enjoyable, as we worked together towards common goals. The physical aspect of the job kept me active and engaged, which I found fulfilling. Additionally, the opportunities for growth within the company were motivating, and I appreciated the potential for advancement. Overall, the fast-paced environment and the benefits provided by Amazon made my time in the warehouse both rewarding and enjoyable.
