What is the best part of working at the company?
Team work and the genuine compassion for residents. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Haven’t experienced stressful situations as yet. Like another place, pressure is there but you need to do what you need to at the time allocated.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It’s well netted with cohorts but easily accomodating and ready to train and help you become better. They are like a family.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Attend handover the first 15mins, assist carers with ADLs and just before breakfast I help RN with BGLs for diabetic residents. From 8:15 I help prompt residents  to the dinning room for breakfast and serve them cereal, tea; coffee, toast etc. Around 8:45am we start helping residents back to their rooms or clean the kitchen and clear the tables. Then from 9:00 till 10am we clean their rooms and make their beds. Then I come with a 10:00 round of tea/ coffee in the resident’s room till around 10:30am. Then I go for progress note updates till 10:50 and prepare for handover at 11:00. From handover I go for my 15mins break then come to attend the bells or pendant calls. Then 11:45am I start preparing the residents for lunch and prompting them to go to the dining .  I help the RN with another round of BGLs before the residents eat lunch . Then I assist carers to serve and distribute lunch as well as those in their rooms. Then 12:45 we start clearing the tables, taking residents to their rooms and doing dishes. Mostly from this time it’s toileting bells and I assist my residents. If there are any updates for handover, I update.  Then around 2pm I give my residents another round of tea and coffee in their rooms. By 2:30pm I am done with the tea tray and prepare my final progress note for the day.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Best part is there's some great work colleagues and great elderly clients plus knowing we are helping the elderly 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The top management and middle management needs to be replaced as its not professional as they have a clicky nature & will push you out if they don't like you. Micro managed by incompetent people. Overworked and undervalued, otherwise you will be replaced.  Management are numbers driven and only care about lining their pockets, not client care driven. Purple circle. Workplace bullying is a big problem at AL but is ignored. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture has drastically deteriorated over the last 12 months. Management are solely focused on bringing on large numbers of clients but do not have enough to staff to  confidently cover the client's services but management tell staff to tell the new clients we can provide the services you need, so that the client agrees to go with Amana Living and then client is let down later if their service can not be covered with staff.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very stressful, overworked and toxic environment but unable to report bullying from Team Leaders or Management as HR support Management even with evidence

This was a casual position doing 2-3 days a week.

A typical day at work involved picking up clients from their homes and transporting them to the day center. Adhering to the days activities as per the activity calender, Serving morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea and taking the clients home at the end of the day.

I learned that with understanding and compassion, you can make a difference in someones day. This applies not only to the Dementia specific clients but also to their families.

This was a very challenging job and working closely with co-workers and management was a must. I found that I made good relationships with both staff and management and worked well with them.

The hardest part of working with people with this illness is the communication barrier and earning their trust and friendship.

This in itself adds to the enjoyment of the job because once those barriers were broken down, it was so overwhelming and rewarding to get a smile when they saw you :-) It was also a big plus to find what they individually enjoyed and to interact with them - for example sing-a-longs, dancing, gardening and craft.

From the very beginning there were so many red flags.. I was completely new to the industry and completed their 2 weeks on site training induction. I was blown away that 95% of the class spoke very minimal English and did not pass the basics for most test, but instead were given the answers. Most people failed the medication tests, but they just joked about it and gave them the answers.. So alarming that these people are aloud to just let anyone into care for our elderly.  
Once I started working in the community the job it's self wasn't all that bad. I enjoyed the clients and loved the role. But the constant changing of rostering was a nightmare. Giving me clients not in my area, assigning tasks I wasn't qualified for and so on. A battle to get paid for the kms I was travelling. Always chasing them for the money. The clients were always so unhappy, their services were always changing and the biggest complaint I got every single day... Nobody speaks English. The elderly hated it. They couldn't communicate what they needed. 
I would never ever want Amana living as a care provider for my family, avoid at all costs. If you have a love for caring and helping, don't work here. You'll see the soul crushing dark side of the aged care industry.  

Most of the shifts that I worked was afternoon and night shift..
aMy afternoon shifts start at 15:30..
In the afternoon I get handover from the morning shift and read the progress notes,most of my shifts I worked in the hostel.I start giving out medications and prepare the dinning room for tea..Sometimes a few residents help me to set up the table,i get the opportunity to have a chat with tmem and ask them how there day has been.There are so many amazing stories and they teach me a lot.Its like a history lesson as well.
My job is very challenging as I look after very varied client base.A lot of my clients are frustrated and in [ainand can sometimes take it out on the carer.I never take it personal because I know its not towards me its towards the situation and condition.I always listen to them when they want to get something out of there chest

The stress level of getting needs met is unbelievable, not only for the staff that actually show up for work but also for the residents. We do not have enough time to interact with the residents. Quality time is missing. Every day there is a request for workers to fill in for sick staff. We are constantly working on skeleton crew and being hounded by the nursing staff and also by the kitchen staff to get all the dishes in to be washed so they can finish their shift on time.
You need to have a strong constitution to handle this career. Meaning that if you are sensitive or depressed, honestly please don't go there.
The government needs to provide more funding to allow more workers to be in action.

I work from home full time with client visits in surrounding suburbs. Very demanding and complicated administrative functions required. Option to reduce tax paid through salary packaging. Welcoming and supportive team. Unpaid overtime is required daily to stay on top of workload. Wages are low compared to other organisations. Company car being phased out with no compensation or wage review. Management of approx 50 clients. Upper management a cause for concern. Flexible work hours. Education and training opportunities.  

**BEWARE: Amana Living will suck the life out of you - you will leave a shadow of the person you were when you started.  It will sneak up on you gradually, you won't even realise.  Unrealistic expectations, zero communication & zero thanks or recognition.  Paid far less than industry standard. Do not buy the whole 'not for profit' thing - this place is ALL ABOUT THE PROFIT. They will not give you the equipment required to WFH and get the job done. Building an empire at their employees expense. Inexperienced, unqualified people running this place = DISASTROUS experience. You deserve better, don't do it to yourself.

I was involved in maintaining the Fixed Asset Register for many cost centres. They were implementing a new system when I arrived so I was an active part of assisting in queries and solving problems in relation to this. The year end audit was also taking place and I liaised with the auditors to answer any queries they had. I also had month end processing and general ledger reconciliations responsibilities.

I learnt al lot from both management and co-workers as they had been in the company for a long period which is a testament to how the company treated its staff so well.

The most enjoyable part of the job for me was getting back into a hands on accountancy role and utilising the skills I am trained in.

I work morning shifts which are always busy, a typical day at work involves a number of tasks which include attending to residents with different levels of ADLs requirements. I have learnt to work as a team player and independently as well as working with people from diverse backgrounds. Both parties work collaboratively. The hardest part of my job is dealing with residents with challenging behaviours, but the most enjoyable part of my job is that I understand the residents and know how to deal with each individual resident and the team spirit among the employees. The management is fair and helpful.
