Ageing, Disability and Home Care

A typical day at work consists generally of working with another staff member on a 24/7 rostering system. I would arrive at work sign in and read through previous notes.Follow all hygeine requirements and dresscode requirements for work for myself. I work with 5 clients with varying intellectual disabilities. There are 2 clients who are in wheelchairs. There are mild  to moderate behavioural issues within these 5 clients. A general routine is to assist and help maintain each client to maintain therre dignity and privacy and independance.Person centredness is also important with all clients and staff. The day would start off with all clients needing to be assisted with showers. Assisitng with clothhing etc. To make sure each clientspersonal hygeine has been attended to. To then make sure each client has has adequate food and fluids. Also if the client needs medications , longterm ,prn or short term that they recieve this.. I have a huge duty of care as careworker... The clients may then be going to a dayprogram so i will assist by driving the van to get clients to there daily programs. .

I always learn that you never underestimate a clients abilities or siabilities and you always treat clients withn respect.I learned about each clients behaviours over time and feel i alwways contribute to reducing not increasing a clients behaviours....

my coworkers are generally good...i always maintiain a positive outlook in my job and feel i am great person to have around for both clients and staff.
The hardest part of my job can be if all of the clients are displaying behaviours at similar times....this can be difficult however, my job is imprtant to me and i love it..I have been doibg this for a long time as i really do enjoy it...I feel lucky..

There are many aspects that are enjoyable to me in my job..
the first being simply to be able to help and assist clients.. 
To watch a client set a goal and the achieve it.
To see a client who is unable to shower themselves recieve help and be clean for their day
To watch a client laugh
To see a client happy

Every is different, everyday is colorful working with someone with autism and intellectual disability.  

I have learned that working with special person is amazing. I did not only learn from my own way/mistakes  but they also teach how to learn new things every day such as having smile even they are in pain, even they have disability even they are far away from their family. 

 
I would not stay with my current job  if I have not received any good things in return. I love my job as it is very rewarding. My employer support us in learning and developing. as they offer regular training, My employer supported me since I studying at University in Wollongong taking up Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I get paid the same hours I work in a month or more  when I do my hospital  placement. I would not ask anything anymore but my developing career is my priority at the moment. I am going to graduate this coming November 2016. So, I need to leave my job at the right time. My employer) is aware that I will leave once I have found Nursing Job as it my dream. 

I am proud to say that I work in a very healthy environment. If there are some conflicts between workers, I don't intervene or I don't get involve instead I give a positive rapport that I believe without bias. I always advise them to see the higher person such as Team Leader if they could not resolve in a first stage. Anyway, most of the time, they just take them as a normal life. Mostly worker understands where other workers came from. They understand one another and consider things happened only in  particular event/only in hard time. Everyone one  treat each other like friends/sis/and brother. 

The hardest part of the job is to handle patient who is having ADHD and when other clients plays up or shows unpredictable behavior. Anyway, it was not the worst one but when permanent workers got sick and someone will be in to work.  Change os staff mostly causes of clients' behavior. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is giving us a break and give us regular training to develop new things and updates knowledge and skills.

Being there support taking them shopping, banking, outings, personal care, cooking meals for them transporting them to appointments and to there day programs. I learned that all my clients have different needs and wants and have different behaviors. Management are pretty good overall. my co workers and I work together as a team. the hardest part is when they get upset and sometimes they don't want you help them but you just monitor them and give them the space they desire. The best part of my job is that I get to help and support my clients and to be able to put a smile on there faces and just looking after them in general..

Good place to work, a lot of different opportunities, ongoing training available.
Some management and co-workers were great but the same cannot be said for the bad, there was a lack of communication and support from the incompetent side of management and co-workers.
Support is next to non-existent when pregnant.
Lots of OT due to always being understaffed and always had agency staff which caused the clients distress.
The death of a client you have known for years is hard.
Going home knowing you are making a difference in peoples lives that cannot do some things for themselves is very rewarding in itself.

As transport I have an opportunity to make a difference in the life of people with severe disabilities on a daily basis. This makes the job worthwhile. Unfortunately management do not encourage and support staff enough in this sometimes tough work situation. I have a passionate interest in the WHS in the workplace and am studying to further that interest in the hope of progressing into that field of career. I enjoy helping with giving advice to work colleagues regarding their issues and helping resolve those same issues.

Take clients to the community and let them have a choice of their own daily life. Have learnt to listen and read body language. When it comes to Management I just do what is expected of me. Towards my workmates, I go well with most of them and learned a lot from the most knowledgeable ones. The hardest part of it is when you are trying your best and still not enough for your workmate to recognise your best effort. The most enjoyable part of my job is I make a difference everyday in the life of people with disability.

Later returning clients back to the allocated units,

The most enjoyable part of the job is being able to help & assist clients in their everyday daily necessary needs.

I enjoyed my co-workers as we were all hard working.

I have learnt various and many skills including how to respond and interact with the needs of all the different clients and be pro-active.

A career as a Disability Support Worker (DSW) means you will be employed in a professional environment providing care and support to people with an intellectual and/or physical disability living in our community-based group homes.

The work is not always easy, but the rewards are attractive and it will bring out the best in you. The needs of the people we care for vary, so you will need to remain flexible, adaptable and positive in everything you do.

Pick up supplies from store or kitchen and deliver to three hospitals around Sydney.
How to work in a team environment 
Manager would not take on responsibilities in regards to work practices 
Work culture was to be tolerant to others in regards to different races 
Hardest part of the job working to a strict time frame.
The satisfaction of doing something to help others.

could have been more supportive around me leaving a D.V relationship after i was injured as a result of said relationship instead i just lost my job and traineeship as there where apparently nothing lighter then full manually handling to do as part of the job though as i was aware from working with them for well over a yeah that there was
