A mission-driven workplace that struggles with leadership consistency and staff development.

The good things:
Working at AIE can be rewarding if you’re passionate about games, film, and education. The student outcomes are meaningful, and you’re surrounded by colleagues who genuinely care about helping young people succeed. There’s some flexibility in roles, and the autonomy in certain tasks can be satisfying. Day-to-day teamwork, especially at the campus level, is usually strong.

The challenges:
Unfortunately, there’s a disconnect between frontline teams and executive leadership. Decision-making often feels top-down, and internal communication lacks transparency. Opportunities for growth are limited, and internal promotions or development are rarely supported. While intentions are good, delivery is inconsistent and at times undermines staff morale. Some leadership behaviours lean toward micromanagement rather than trust and empowerment.

It was a year 11 work experience that involved a week of learning how to operate programmes such as Photoshop and Maya. I learnt how to code, make small video games, and learnt more about film and gaming culture. I enjoyed gaining a further understanding of this area and the creative freedom we were given.

One week of being at the Academy gave me a basic idea of being a part of the gaming class, and how to create games. 
We did has small lessons on programming and animation but most of the time we are interacting with making a board game or playing one or cleaning and helping out with the IT people.

This 5 days experience was not only a challenge it was fun and felt great to spend time on various different projects as both a team and by myself. The teaching they offered me was amazing and it certainly helped me grow as a person.

The work experience was useful as it provided me with a real example of what working in an office and team environment is like. I got to see what the designers did on a daily basis and the computer software they used.

It was a fun and collaborative working environment but even though it was labelled as 'work experience', no salary was given. I learnt how to code and come up with game designs so overall, it was an educational and fun experience.

Awesome work place with the flexibility of on campus and online work. Opportunity to work with students to help and inspire them to learn their chosen craft.

It was a fun and enjoyable experience, I was able to take develop my own skills as well as acquire new ones that I continue to use today.
