Absolute Domestics

I was a self employed cleaner, placed with clients via Absolute Domestics.  The clients were great, AD, not so much.  Team leaders differ; some are pleasant, some are unpleasant.  They are all quite demanding when it comes to taking on new clients; I was expected to take on a client who lived so far away, that I actually lost money cleaning for this client.  I had to pay $1 per clean to AD for insurance, which is a tax deduction.  I paid $200 but when I got my statement at EOFY, it stated that I'd only paid $40.  Where did the other $160 go?  I fell down a client's stairs, so was unable to complete that job that day.  AD asked me about that, and when I said I fell down the stairs, the rep didn't even ask how I was; she just noted it on my file.  You will be expected to pay an excess of $500 if you accidentally damage a client's belongings.  AD state on Product Review that they have over 20,000 clients and every cleaner pays $1 per clean to AD for insurance.  Do the maths; the cleaners are, collectively, paying an enormous amount of AD's insurance and yet we still have to pay a substantial excess.  When I asked to see the insurance policy, I was ignored for 18 months.  It was only when I told AD that the ATO may be in touch with them, that they quickly emailed me the name of the insurance company.  However, they refused to give me the policy wording.  Cleaners have no choice but to pay the $1 per clean, yet we're not allowed to see the policy wording???  You have to deposit the client's placements fees into AD's bank account each week via a self-serve ATM.  There weren't any self-serve ATMS where I live, and AD expected me to make a 90 minute round trip, out of my way, every Friday, to deposit the money.  I used to deposit the money over the counter at the bank, but AD had to pay a fee of $2.50 for every OTC transaction, so they put a stop to that.  The placement fee, paid by the client for every clean, is not properly explained to clients.  Most of my clients thought that money went to me and were shocked when I explained that it didn't.  Cleaners are self-employed and AD finds cleaners for clients and places them with a client.  They only find a cleaner once; surely a placement fee should be paid only once?  Once the initial "marrying up" of client and cleaner takes place, AD has done their job; they don't get involved any more, so why should the client continue to pay a placement fee?  Think about it.  My advice is to advertise for yourself, so *you* are in control.

Can be okay once you're settled in with good clients. A lot of clients cancel right away with no explanation as they have unrealistic expectations and don't care much about the cleaner. 

Absolute Domestics is okay as a company. You aren't really trained, but in exchange for the app service that allows you to get connected to clients and the insurance they provide you pay a $22 fee each time with a $1 fee for insurance. 

You have a team manager you are contact with but basically about schedule changes as you aren't able to update that yourself.

I didn't enjoy it when I tried to do it for a lot of hours as it was a lot to keep track of and then clients would be in and out. All the new cleans at once can be hard since it's usually dirtier the first time, especially when clients quit without giving you a chance. Skipping or rescheduling happens often so that can be a downside.

One thing to keep in mind is gas. Don't plan cleans far away. I like to keep mine within about ten minutes as you make a casual wage but spend gas and travel time usually for two hours of work at a time.

Also, they may automatically set you to 30 an hour even though that's the lowest rate advertised. They won't ever discuss it with you.

Overall, it's okay if you need some more money but I quickly jumped at the opportunity to do another job alongside it and do cleaning only a couple of times a week.

It can be beneficial to provide your own cleaning products which gets you extra pay. The reason is because sometimes the vacuums or mops of a client won't be that great. If you bring your own stuff you don't have to work it out with each household. But I have not done that myself as I don't own a nice vacuum cleaner for the job.

I don't mind it overall. It has given me some income I need. I just couldn't do it full time or much more than I do now.

I would not recommend working for this company. The main managerial strategy is manipulation and the first 6 months of their supposed probation period is 100% the business model to under pay novice recruits for an unrealistic amount of work that is expected. 

The turnover rate is astonishing, as management are constantly letting go of hard-working staff without any notice period and offering no substantial reasons.  Feedback and professional perfomance improvement discussion throughout your first 6 months is unheard of so there would be no chance to rectify mistakes made regardless.  A current staff member, has a substantial list of the poor staff members that have their positions terminated within the last 6 months - this list of actual names is sitting at 39 people… 

To paint a picture, the management are extremely secretive and nonsupportive,  and spend most of their time gossiping about genuinely lovely staff members.  They advertise consistently, train quickly and then terminate just before they have to move their staff from a "probationary" wage to the wage they actually advertise! 

Throughout my time, I spent majority of my work day, listening to clients complaining about the cleaning experience they had - this is predominantly due to the company having hundreds of undertrained in inexperienced cleaners. 

I can guarantee following this review there will be a generic response written from the assistant trying to cover their tracks.  I witnessed this copious amounts of times.  

Where do I even begin?! When I first started this job, they preach about the benefits of working here as an Area Manager (a fancy name for call centre attendant). Half-priced gym memberships, free lunch once a month, etc. None of that can make up for the horrible experience of being employed here. 

They give you one week of intensive training which does somewhat prepare you to take on the work by yourself but once you're out of that training, if you don't know what you're doing then you've got a target on your back. 

They will micromanage you, listen in on your phone calls, and criticise every little thing you do. It may not even be the wrong way of doing something, just a different way to how they (the trainers/supervisors) would have done it. 

The trainers/supervisors walk around the office gossiping about everyone right in front of you. Staff are watching each other and seemingly encouraged to report any "wrongdoings" to management. 

A few of the girls in the office are really lovely but talking to them you learn they are scared of coming to work, standing up for themselves, or making a mistake. This workplace culture goes beyond toxic. I truly feel for those girls as nobody deserves to come to work and feel that way.

If you're on your probationary period, they will happily fire you with no notice, no feedback, no reasoning, and no opportunity to defend yourself. 



The situation with me through absolute domestics was that I started working with them during school holidays- during this time I really enjoyed the work as I was on my own and tuned into my own style of getting things done, the clients were friendly and their homes were a joy to clean and I enjoyed how some adorable pets greeted me well upon entering their home with the family away.
 I took on many clients and sometimes felt overbooked but handled it well due to the time I was able to have during the holidays however after the holidays when school hours were all I was limited to I had to cancel on several clients to fit and manage 2 to 3 houses per day on 2 to three hour cleans.
This was somewhat stressful and although my ability to work fast paced was one of my greatest contributions I was still being bombed with clients upon clients and after several attempts to explain my situation to the absolute domestic manager and staff I was still receiving messages with more clients for me and I was left with no choice but to call the clients and explain I had to cancel or could reschedule and due these disturbances so frequently and so often I notified absolute domestics about my decision to quit.

This Agency is, in my opinion, appallingly run.  Staff are pushy, demanding and can be extremely rude.  I've got the emails to prove it.  Beware the $1 per clean you have to pay to the Agency for insurance, and also the $500 excess you are required to pay if you damage a client's belongings.  If you injure yourself on the job, the Agency couldn't care less.  You, as a self employed cleaner, are not respected by Agency staff, you're literally just a number to them.  They don't even know your name and refer to you by the number you have been assigned!  I was underpaid for 12 months as I was not told by the Agency that the hourly rate had increased; it was only chance that I became aware of that.  I do not recommend anyone registering with this Agency.  They are, indeed, like leeches.  Horrible people to have to deal with.  Having to deposit client's fees every Friday can be a pain and I have to wonder, why can't the client deposit the fees themselves?  You have to pay a registration fee to register with the Agency and you have to pay for your Police check.  You also have to pay for the uniform.  Very few clients supplied their own cleaning products, so I had to supply them as well as mops, buckets, cloths etc.  To sum up, avoid this Agency like the plague.

The two most important things I learned being with the company are being happy and giving my all to the job. By that I mean my time, effort, skills to the best of my ability both mentally and physically.

The management is great, however, I and my fiance needed to earn more income to pay our bills and live. We teamed up to do house cleaning  as we thought we could do it full time which was mentioned on their website. I don't drive yet so we thought teaming up to do house cleaning full time would be promising because my fiance drives. The first two days work we received post completed training , we did 15 hours of work which gave us enough money to pay our bills, however there was no work available over the next three days. My fiance then decided to find a new job and was working within a few days. We called the management to tell them our situation and that we would still be available for cleaning on Saturdays. They understood and told us that they will keep our file open and call us whenever work is available on a Saturday's . 

My most enjoyable part of the job is meeting new people and feeling good knowing I have helped someone.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Its very easy to find a job using the company app. Also, if we come across any sort of problem, it will be solved immediately. a very reliable and flexible agency to work at.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I haven't faced anything like that so far. The only challenge is that almost all the residents wants their cleaning done in the morning hours, starting from 9:00 a.m., which is why we hardly get few hours to work in a week.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The working environment is good. We pick our clients ourself, the manager of the area will confirm and then we go to work. But the saddest part I have noticed so far is, I have never get to work within near distances, don't know why.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Company or office, I don't know where it is located as of now. Seen overall Manager once during the interview, not seen the area manager so far. Just talking through the cell is quite awesome to work in.

I have been an apart of the Absolute Domestics as Self contracted Cleaner for 26 March 2019 ( 2 Years, 8 Months).

I was quick to get work after the 3 day orientation (Although I wasnt as good as I hoped out the gate) I quickly found my feet.

It never took to long for me to get new jobs when I requested them from my team manager. All my team managers have been great thus far.

They have come quite far technology wise with a web platform to make payments to and the latest advancement being their phone application which seems great from what I have seen, you can survey a large range of jobs which has given me more confidence that I will get extra work when I need it.

Pay wise we have seen to pay increases over the last year which have been a great help and which I feel reflect the demands of the job more so then when I first started

All round they have been great to deal with and happy I to continue my self contracted work with them in the forseeable future.


What is the best part of working at the company?
It is a good company to work for, as long as you want to work there is a good team to help you & the seminar is a great refresher if you have being a cleaner for a while, area manager for help, an app for choosing jobs & you can travel without needing equipment or products, as long as you can talk to people & be reliable, you should have a job, I will be never leaving this company as my 1st choice for cleaning work

You get what you put in, a team to help you, a weekly small fee covers insurance & a area manager who I never needed but your on your ABN & trying to get your own jobs is too much & their is a manual for business advice

I worked part time around Melbourne & most of my cleaning was weekly jobs
