When you work in customer service for AMES or as an AMES teacher you are working together with your team to help Migrants and Refugees settle into a new country, "Australia" and helping them to learn and express themselves in English conversationally and more.
You also, as the worker can learn a lot from your customers and clients from overseas, as they bring to AMES a wealth of knowledge with them and are always willing more than often to share. 
In turn, they learn a lot from you as you are the teacher.
It is very rewarding. By building relationships between clients and services you build a better school, workplace, community and lifestyle for your student.

The good things
Good team work especially when the management was changing. It is a multicultural environment which promotes tolerance. On the job you can gain experience in many facets of CALD community in Australia.
The challenges
Not being encouraged to do further study. Not being given more support whilst doing further study. Paperwork is extensive to the detriment of client care. The premise is old and not aesthetically pleasing. Too much emphasis on blame and punishment rather than nurture and support

This company highly prioritises the senior management and neglect the care of the real frontline workers. It is recommended that there are a lot to be improved if they provide a better duty of care system for the frontline workers, who are meeting with the real clients and having the touch base relationship with the clients. 

Getting voices from the frontline workers and making them a part of decision-making in changing the workplace culture might help boost the image of the organization in addition to catapulting the productivity of the organization as a whole.

AMES is an interesting place with no two days the same thanks to the diverse work flow and clients that you greet. Starting your day with a greeting and helpful spirit will always put you into a positive mood.

I learned the basic role of the receptionist and administration staff with help from my supervisor, and although it was simple some tasks were tedious and time consuming (such as filing the cabinet) but was necessary.

I most enjoyed being able to help the clients to build resume's and to see them continue into the real world prepared to find a job.

the refugee program was in need of an overhaul. but no one had any ideas to change what needed to be changed. difficult when laws in the state and country prohibited the treatment of refugees in the program to be better. work place culture was poor and most others working were hired due to their language capability, same as refugees. not many were qualified to work with the symptoms of people experienced in war. mental health conditions symptomatic to behaviours of clients. management poor and unable to handle pressure due to laws not changing.

Right from the CEO to the General Managers have no clue about running the company or business. There is no recognition of performance, the performance process called PPRD is hopeless, rigid and name sake only. There is no Salary increase, employees have remained in the same salary for ages. No process for promotions. The Senior management is not aware of the ground realities and organization is bureaucratic. Most of the employees are culturally and linguistically diverse and this the organization takes advantage of the employees. Company is on the downhill

Reasonable-same as other positions some staff great and others need better work ethics and communication skills

Busy but reasonable-at times too busy within time in office so take work home

Amazing experience! After a long gap to get exposure into a work atmosphere is like an "Ice breaking" session type of Job eventually started liking to love the working type of life again. As it was a limited time, I am missing that friendly approach of that atmosphere. 
Higher authorities guiding the new comers are common to what extent is the question, I was blessed with both helping and till the end of my session.
