ALLIED EXPRESS

I will start by saying that i thought this was my new career as a courier driver. I invested a lot of my money to buy a reliable new van. Unfortunately. Yes there is a but. 

Allied were not honest and up front and that the promises made during our various meetings were all lies just to get me and my van to join their fleet of vans, doing their deliveries.

Most of the jobs I had to deliver fitted either on the front seat or floor in front passenger side of the van. Which left the back of van empty. This went on for weeks and months. When I mentioned this to the dispatchers they would hurriedly send me on a wild goose run. With an empty van. e.g. Chullora to St.Marys to Sydney CBD to Brookvale. etc. Just to show that they were giving me a big load of work. 

When I did my sums. i.e. money coming in versus costs of running a diesel van etc. I found that i was losing money. At that stage i decided to leave, as my dispatcher nor my manager were not interested or did not care about my concerns. They just wanted their jobs to be delivered. 

I would like to add that i loved doing adhoc jobs. Moving quickly from business to business picking up and quickly delivering. 

If I had to do this again. Yes I would. Only next time I would buy a second hand wagon. Pay for the wagon in cash. 

I hope this review helps others who are contemplating couriering as a new career or as a school leaver.

I had started the job here for on Tuesday the 25/02/2020 I was already sick at the time and the manager had told me I was doing great along with the two other girls whom was training me. I was taking notes and asking a lot of questions especially when something did not make sense to me. That afternoon the manager had told me I will be on the phones the following day. 
Come Wednesday 26/02/2020 I was so sick where I had lost my voice and struggled to get up of the morning so I had rang through to Allied advising I was really sick and they could hear it in my voice also. About 2 hours later I had the manager contact me via phone saying she was letting me go and using a ridiculous excuse saying the two girls whom trained me didn't provide good feedback however when I had asked what the feedback was she went quiet and was unable to explain. The manager had given me uniform the day before along with my paper work to fill out which I had done the first day I started but there was no contract there either to state if I was on probation and of how long absolutely nothing explaining about the full-time position they had offered me. Overall the experience with Allied was horrible and will not recommend to anyone.

Where do you start with Allied ? Appalling rates to subbies $4 for pallets $5 home delivery which you’re doing at 7.30 at night liquor deliveries at night the list goes on.This company wants everything and will quote ridiculous prices to get customers.Permanent runs which you get paid $12.50 an hour !! Then when something goes wrong management tell subbies that you’re going to lose $200 a week from you to cover managements stuff ups.The Department of fair trading MUST be involved in the courier industries workings.You’ll notice Allied advertise every day looking for drivers,guess why ? The turnover is so high you might get 1 in 10 that stay on the rest leave dissolusioned by the experience.There is nothing good about Allied and it all starts from the top,the McDowells you have destroyed this business for your own greed,job well done.

I start from home when i call in on the work 2 way radio and then do the work that is given to me via a PDA.i learned that when you are an ad hoc driver you rely on your radio operator to be good and fair in distributing the work.the management basically just want the work received to be done in the best and most efficient way but that depends on the radio operator doing his job correctly and also the courier driver's efficiency too.I don't see my co workers much as we are all doing our own work and never meet.The hardest part is waiting around for the radio operator to give your work,no work no pay.I enjoy doing the job correctly and meeting new people everyday if only for a short time and people complimenting you on a job well done.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The lowest paid in terms of pallet rate at $15 a pallet, could earn less than the legal min wage of $25 an hour with your own 12 tons truck.
Very long hours for small paid in terms of hourly rate.
Not recommended.


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
12 hours a day for a lower hourly rate.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Management seeks profit for the company at the cost of driver's safety and always insists to drive the speed at the legal limit.
When in quiet time, management divides 14 pallets of work for 2 drivers who take 7 pallets each, each driver earns half of the wage.


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long hours, 14 pallets truck carries 2 pallets and gets paid as a van driver, while the running cost is much higher than a van driver.

For a typical day at the office started with an early day reporting to the work station was a high expectation of concentration and boredom, as you were not free to get up and stretch and it made you fall asleep on the chair waiting for calls.
I learned to engage with clients and perform well for the advancement of the company.
The management was not as supportive as I expected but the work was straight forward with rules to follow.
The hardest part about the job is during the busy times when all the phones are flashing and the client is in a rush with multiple deliveries to submit.
The most enjoyable times was when the computers were down everybody deserved pizza for writing them down.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best place to work pay is good the environment is perfect the co-workers are  the best 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The customers the rude and demanding with out thinking very selfish 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Culture is friendly they listened to your problems and they fixing it straight away 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Perfect that sums it up I said it sums it up

Probably the worst freight/ Logistics company I’ve ever worked for. What a joke! No direction, no guidance, no communication, no updates, they leave one person with heaps of work, ignore important questions, move you around constantly. I can see why nobody wants to work here, management are flops, unprofessional, and weak. Worked for a few days and will never go back. Absolute hole. Everyone was leaving within the first few hours of the first day. Expected to lift and carry 40-60kg boxes ALONE and they don’t even bother to tell you your task. Literally so disappointed.

*Dishonest and cunning 
*Very poor organisation in many facet, from warehouse, book keeping , Radio control and communication skills
*Communication equipments often doesn't work.
*Radio team often placed the drivers at risk and difficult situation while driving. 
* Occupational health and safety aren't practice or followed. 
*Does not pay their drivers right , often pays are missing. 

Incompetence promoted. Efficiency demoted. All depends on who you are and what your surname is and how good looking you are. No consistency. Many peer staff members are rude abusive and basically awful to fellow staff. Not allowed out of your chair. Unable to use bathroom unless no one else is out of chair and in there. ( it made 13 years of Catholic girls school run by nuns a walk in the park in comparison. Poorly rostered.
