I started working here thinking I’d have the best job ever. Since I’m an artist I love art so much. But the way the management handles things are just wrong. 
They recently let go all of their casual employees, me being one of them. They only gave us 4 days notice & They say it’s temporary. But I don’t believe them, due to the half-assed communication and lack of organisation. It is just a mess. I do understand covid has affected essentially everyone. But from day one I’ve had customers ask me if riot is closing down. Always Inconsistent with stock. and now barely have anything to sell. There’s no deliveries anymore. No Xmas stock out yet like other places in the mall. it’s just upsetting... and all we can do is almost lie to the customers about what is happening, at first management said renovations were to happen soon, now months later we really haven’t a clue at this point. I remember the days I dreamed of working here and I was only a kid, the shelves had decent known brands of paint, easels and stuff.  
Either way I hope somehow that this turns around but I will not be waiting around for an email saying I can work again or what is happening with the stores future. I will not continue having to put up with this highly unprofessional and unresponsive management. O and other casuals deserve a proper place to work and feel proud of it. So far, I’m just embarrassed. I’ve resorted to searching for work elsewhere to support myself 

Riot Art and Craft are a family run business that have stores located all over Australia. The company is run with NO state managers, NO regional managers and ONE national manager that micro managers all the sixty-something store managers. Working for them is a disaster. The national manager contradicts themselves, uses scare tactics and runs the company based on favouritism. Riot fail to set in place proper policies and procedures and (yes the other reviews are correct) gossip and talk down to team members, in which I’ve witnessed and dealt with in store, in front of customers. There is no pathway for career growth past store manager. Riot has potential to be a wonderful work place but, the national manager lets their ego get in the way. I highly recommend not applying for a position within Riot Art and Craft.

A typical day of work at Riot Art and Craft is the standard 9:00 - 5:30 pm work-day, but it's a small team supporting quite a-lot of retail stores, so there is a natural requirement for some over-time by key staff to ensure retail stores run smoothly. The key corporate staff do their best to make you feel welcome, and part of the family. My co-workers were happy and wonderful people whom genuinely wanted to do well at their job and were dedicated to those efforts. However, the hardest part of the job was some problems and disagreements surrounding management styles by upper management, which made job-security an issue where dedication and results in your job doesn't necessarily map on to your future career advancement at Riot with any certainty.

The workplace culture is very disappointing.  Poor decisions made by regional and upper management are blamed on the staff in stores.  The products are no longer of good quality meaning it's hard to recommend them to customers.  Private information provided to regional management in confidence is gossiped about to any staff member who will listen.  Every store has a scapegoat who is blamed for everything and once that's you, your hours will get cut until finally you're just not put on a roster anymore. Threatening emails from management are a regular occurrence as are inappropriate text messages at all hours of the day and night. Would not recommend to anyone.

The business was not well managed and although I was not bullied, I was often spoken to in a condescending way although I have a lot of experience. I felt as if they did not care for their workers and they hired as little employees as possible which made the role difficult and stressful at times. Coworkers were not trained properly in Customer Service and Sales and there was no opportunity to move up in the business. The hardest part of this role was the way I was treated, I made a lot of sales and worked my hardest, yet it was not recognised and I was made to feel like I was just another brick in the wall.

I enjoyed working at Riot because I was able to interact with customers every day. I loved being able to help people, and solve their problems. It was great working with other creative people, and it made going to work fun. I learned skills in visual merchandising, and how to arrange products on shelves successfully. I enjoyed having responsibilities, such as opening the store and closing the registers.

This is such an amazing store to work at. The team are friendly, helpful and amazing. The system takes a while to get used to but easier than some places I have worked. The customers are friendly. You do have to know a fair bit about what you sell. Even if you only know the basics when you begin, don't be afraid to ask other team members about different products as they are always willing to help.

If you are not an artist or drawer, don't bother applying for a job at Riot Art and Craft. I am not either, I draw but I'm not a sketcher or painter, I found it very challenging to know every detail about every product.

Riot is a great Sales job for a part-timer/casual. This job teaches you goals, KPIs and communication with customers. The company also teaches you how to interpret customer projects and goals and provide products in store that can help with their projects.

I worked for Riot for 10 years, I loved my team members and customers. Upper management ( owners) however were unrealistic about targets and disrespectful of all staff in stores. Not a good company to work for, I recommend looking elsewhere.
