I have worked for small business, family operated businesses and large companies. By far this has been the worst experience I have had with any employer.
It took them a month after a group interview, which they have 35 to a group and about 3 groups a day usually, to get us all in for our first induction shift. After 3hrs of being inducted into an online personal shopper which the job was advertised for along with full-time hours.

Well, 3 weeks passed and no call from my line manager, so I called the number provided by the manager and was told countless times to wait for my line manager to call me. Only to be sent an email telling me it's not an online personal shopper job I have but I am part of the replenishment team and need to want to my transfer happens before my new line manager will call me. so 7 weeks after getting the job, I am finally contacted for a shift.
The shifts at the start where ok I went from being offered a full-time job now to now being a casual getting anywhere from 5-15hrs a week. I am not a student.

Weeks passed and I managed to do 8days straight being requested to work so I worked only to be told on my 8th day that I shouldn't be working more than 5days in a row and I am reprimanded for it. So begin to say no to shifts because I have either worked 5 days or I couldn't due to not being rostered on and having to work jobs now to supplement hours I was not getting here. Then as I say no to shifts my line manager begins to not call me so often. 

The day did the rosters that night all shifts for the casuals would be cancelled. They didn't follow work fair law and notify ppl that they had cancelled their shifts, the excuse they couldn't afford the wages. People have travelled to work only to be told the shifts they had were cancelled on the day 15mins before the shift started. Appaling. My line manager dared to ask me if I had another job and if I'm looking. I certainly was.

Now since I was getting any hours at I applied at another Woolworths store. I get the job and I am not notified at all about the job, I am then transferred without my ok. Again I went for that interview 7 weeks ago and I haven't been given any shifts or even contacted by my new supposed line manager since. 

I was moved from dept to dept and that doesn't bother me as variety is good I was doing food handling without proper training, luckily I have grown up in commercial kitchens and understood food hygiene. Imagined if I hadn't.

Work-life balance is a joke there is only one side to that coin and its called work when we want you and we will call an expecting you in under 15mins. The fact they couldn't organise a roster astounds me.
My other favourite was the ppl who they hired for literally 1 sift a week 5hrs in total or we don't have enough wages so we cant give shifts and then I come in after 2 weeks and they have hired 5 new hires. This place is a joke.

Management is poor, not enough money goes toward wages, so the stores are OFTEN understaff. This causes a lot of tention between both co workers and between staff and customers. Especially working the Front End where you are the customers first point of contact you can cop some abuse. The company does not do much about this. When customers leave complaints very rarely do the staff get to document their side of the story leaving a smear to their reputation.
The teams and staff can be very close knit. This is not always a good thing. Gossip can make the environment unhealthy and uncomfortable. The company also does not do much to control this.
Job security is good if you are a permanent employee. Casuals have VERY little security in their work and hours. 
Work/Life balance is quite easy if you are casual or permanent employees. If you are on Salary however the hours are gruelling and you are having to pick up a lot of the slack from lack of staff, leaving you over worked, under paid and extremely hard to balance work and life, and I personally found effects the home life greatly. 
There is no discrimination towards race or orientation which is good.
The Salary is good. Pays the Bills.
It is VERY hard to make any advancement in the company. In fact I have seen little to NO movement or change in my 6 years.
I have tried to work my way up and have showed interest in climbing up the ladder but the opportunities are not offered. When they are finally given to you, in my personal experience, they are given and taken away without any notice given to you or your consent. The lack of communication is a joke. The following of policies and procedures aren't treated with as high regard as it should be.  A lot of shortcuts are taken.

In short, Woolworths Ltd. is a job that pays the bills and no more. The environment can definitely be better, the management needs HUGE improvements and some policies and procedures I believe need some review. Opportunities are extremely minimull, so if you are looking for a career with the potential of growth into management or a higher role.. this is not the company for you.

I've been working at Woolworths for the past two years, and I must say it has been an incredibly positive experience. From the moment I joined the team, I felt welcomed and supported by my colleagues and managers.

One of the best aspects of working at Woolworths is the sense of teamwork and camaraderie. A typical day depends on what department you work in. Some are customer-facing, ie. Checkouts, Deli, while others are not so much, eg. Grocery, nighfill (organising stock and putting it on shelves), Produce Dept, Online, Office. Workplace culture is generally good and I like that you work with people who's ages may span from 15 to 70 years old. Most roles within the store are fast-paced and it is very regimented, ie. every minute counts. eg. if you have a 15 min break, you are expected to be back to work after 15 mins. Sometimes the demands can be unrealistic and dept managers are under the pump to ensure their staff make sure they are met. 
Mostly only management have full-time hours. Most team start off as casuals and may eventually be offered part-time work (sometimes this can be as low as only 10hrs per week, and are treated as casuals if they want extra shifts - but these extra shifts are only paid at the lower, part-time rate, despite being ad hoc). Staff are expected to be flexible, but it works both ways, as the company are generally also flexible when the employee needs them to be too. eg. swapping shifts with someone else if required.
Pay is great for casuals, but terrible for part-timers. It is good for a first job, or for a parent wanting to earn some extra money as a second income. Once you know how to do a job within the organisation, you can work anywhere, as the stores are all over Australia. It would be good if they put more time and money into training of new team members.

Be prepared to devote your entire life to this company. If this is not your first, second, or third priority, you’ll be treated as replaceable - because that’s exactly how they see you.

Nightfill at Woolworths is physically exhausting, mentally draining, and completely thankless. You’re expected to work at lightning speed, unloading pallets and filling shelves under ridiculous time pressures - often with a skeleton crew. There’s never enough staff, but the workload keeps piling up. If you don’t meet unrealistic fill rates, expect to be guilt-tripped or spoken to like you’re lazy.

Rosters change without notice. You might get called in on a day off, expected to cancel personal plans or come in sick just to avoid getting on the manager’s bad side, or have your shifts cut last-minute with no explanation. Work-life balance is non-existent. Don’t bother making plans - you’ll either be too tired or suddenly rostered on.

Our nightfill manager was nothing short of awful. Aggressive, rude, and completely uninterested in the wellbeing of the team. Instead of offering support or guidance, they’d bark orders, micromanage everything, and publicly humiliate people for not working fast enough. If you asked a question or raised a concern, you'd get sarcasm or a passive-aggressive comment in return.

The pay is barely acceptable for the physical toll the job takes on your body. No recognition, no incentives, just constant pressure and silence from above. Oh, and don’t dare ask for time off,  you’ll be punished with fewer hours or no shifts for weeks. 

When I started working at Woolworths, the store I work at had only just finished refurbishments, and with this there were eight new self-serve checkouts, which made the job a lot less busy and therefore not as stressful and full on, as the customers who came in to get a few items would go to self-serve checkouts or an express checkout, not line up in excessively long queues. This made my start a lot less stressful.

Shifts range from 3 to 9 hours, most have been 5 hours.
Shifts around 4-5 hours have one 15 minute break.
Shifts that are 8 hours or longer have two 15 minute breaks and a one hour lunch break (which I think is a bit too long).
Around one third of my shifts so far have been call-ups.
Pays well.

When I first started I would get home and my heels would be quite sore, but by now I have gotten used to this.

A typical day for me at work is spent mostly on the checkout, trolley collection, general cleaning/stocking around the front end, putting loose stock away, putting rubbish out.

I have learned a lot of work skills and built my confidence.
My co-workers and supervisors are generally very friendly people.

I enjoy meeting many different customers through the day, the majority are friendly and chatty, but don't get me wrong, some can be a bit rude and complain about minor issues (I assume there would be a lot more of these customers at a fast food restaurant), but you need to learn to deal with these things in a work environment. 
It is really good to have a chat to a customer that is genuinely up for a chat while you scan their items.

When I first started collecting trollies I would take 7 trollies at a time to get the hang of it and not cause an accident, now I am taking the maximum a trolley strap can hold of 9-10. The wheels can sometimes get stuck which can be frustrating.

I recommend Woolworths as a place for young casual workers like myself to have their first job. I chose the absolute best place to work.

- customer service, on register and throughout the store

- merchandising, ensuring off located stock is available and presented in an enticing manner.

working within a small staff group allows, and requires, a development of key skills. teamwork and communication are paramount, and actively encouraged throughout the day.
customer service skills are the core focus of the company, and working within a happy group of people makes this easy to achieve.
time management is a secondary key focus. by adhering to time limits, all staff ensure work is completed on time and to a standard expected by customers and management alike.

management styles throughout the company are varied and dynamic.
store management and department management pass information to staff in a professional and succinct manner to ensure tasks have appropriate time to be completed. management are generally friendly and willing to help staff with training and furthering their skills, to benefit the member, and the company alike.

the hardest part of working in this company is progressing through it. by having such a strong management team from the ground up, staff find it difficult to progress. 

the most enjoyable part of the job is the people. the staff are friendly, the customers are many and varied, and always willing to have a say on how they think the company can improve. regardless of your job function, there is always a friendly face to make sure you are having a good day.

I strive to improve voluntary compliance with suppliers of produce through advisory plans, quality inspections and regular face to face interactions with the vendors. This requires me to act in an ethical and professional manner upholding the integrity of the ‘Woolworths’ name. I liaise with internal and external stakeholders during WQA planning processes to assist my unit in achieving Woolworth’s corporate objectives and supporting a culture of integrity and professionalism. As a valuable member in the WQA team I interpret and review relevant WQA legislation which enables me to confidently and clearly explain my ideas and arguments during team meetings and half yearly reviews. 

My investigation experience enables me to search and identify foreign materials within produce to be consumed by the customer. I am able to assess unsuitable produce by analysing and assessing the risk it has to consumers and the company by developing and using a risk assessment matrix. As this is a daily requirement, I have developed essential quick, effective, and appropriate decision making skills. 

With a competitive consumer based market and competition between other major companies, Woolworths is a dynamic and forever changing workplace. To remain a valued employee, I have equipped myself with the ability to manage organisational change through fortnightly planning to improve the outcome and experience for all customers. I adapt to change and discuss emerging or contentious issues through regular meetings with my line supervisors. As the first point of contact between suppliers and buyers, I use operational planning as a tool to make my role more efficient whilst displaying accountability.

Keying over 120 invoices for repairs and maintenance work done by vendors in Woolworths supermarkets and affiliated stores throughout Australia and New Zealand. Scanning, photocopying, speaking to vendors, stores and fellow team members as required so as to ensure prompt payment of invoices.  Achieve and surpass set targets and deadlines.  Mail sorting and updating spreadsheets for mail received and stats for work keyed by the team on a roster basis with fellow team members.

I learned just how many facets there are to running a store i.e. freight, banking, accounts receivable, expenses, stock, repairs and maintenance

Had a fantastic Management team.  I reported to my Senior Team Leader who showed great empathy when required.  A firm but fair attitude from her made team members want to give their best at all times.

I worked with fantastic co-workers from all works of life.  We were a dynamic team that pulled together and produced a large volume of work daily and took great pride in that.

The hardest part of the job was when we would sometimes receive over1,500 invoices per day in the mail and as our team always strived to be no more than 2 days behind in backlog, the sheer volume of mail didn't always allow this.  It would be a case of heads down and no talking to get the job done!

Definitely the most enjoyable part of the job was the interaction between my fellow team members and other workers within the processing centre.  I formed lifelong friendships in this job.

Being an operating cashier employee my typical day would be getting to work five minutes before my shift would start to sign onto the Woolworths server and then say hello to everyone in the tea room then go up to the service desk and ask my manager for the day to see what register I will be on. After finding out my register number I sign onto the register and open myself up and start serving customers, asking them "How are they, and how's their day been?" Depending on how many hours I work, my manager will then come and tell me to have my tea break for 15 minutes. After the 15minutes I return to my register to continue on with my duties until the end of my shift where I log off from the Woolworths server so they are able to calculate my pay for that shift.
Working at Woolworths I have been able to extent my belief on the values, and was able to branch on from those values. The number one I will always value is manners, you treat everyone as equals and approach everything with a smile on your face. 
My co-workers are amazing to work with, they are so friendly to work with and as myself, they too have always got smiles on their faces and can always help one another in the time of need when we don't know how to do something on the registers. 
The most enjoyable thing about my job is meeting new people everyday and being able to be an ear for the customers when I've asked them about their day, but on the flipside of this, the hardest thing is having to deal with the disruptive and angry customers who can be a little impatient on busy working days, but the managers are quick to come and assist with the trouble.
